I hope that the Devil gets special dispensation to travel up to the Pearly Gates long enough to hand over that golden fiddle to Mr. Daniels, so he has a suitable instrument ready when he meets the other legends of country music who've gone before him and are probably eager for a jam session.
No new page this week. The Artist was supposed to have hand surgery, but at practically the last minute, it was discovered that the surgeon's office had failed to get specific clearance from her cardiologist, and the anesthesiologist could not/would not proceed without said clearance, so it has to be rescheduled. And, hopefully, whichever dingleberry failed to get that clearance is being beaten with a desk chair. (If the beating is not being carried out adequately, I WILL FUCKING HELP.)
PS: This is an example of my own work in DAZ Studio, which may help to explain why I'm not the Artist here.
It's always something...2020 is pervasive, I'll give it that :(
Hopefully she can be rescheduled quickly, it'd probably be a year or more up here unless you were doing it through WCB.
If that don't take the cake! :( I feel so bad for Cent right now. Rose, if you need a desk chair for said beating, I have a nice heavy one - My contribution to said beating. I hope she can get her surgery very soon. I hate to think of going on in needless pain.
Rather than a deSk chair, perhaps we should consider a deCk chair. They are heavier, sturdier and already have the proper verb to act upon the noun built right into the name. If applied with appropriate frequency they will be decimated. That would probably end up with a Dedication
..see.!! i said she (Tokyo Rose) could art... good too. but her forte is wordsmithing ..
and she has access to big heavy chairs,, tho i think she wood (would) prefer, lots of light weight ones,, you can hit more,, and hurt more..
" but why a spoon cousin.?" "Because it will hurt MORE you Twit.!!"
Art looks good to me, the textures are amazing, pretty much photo-realistic and shinies must be the hardest to get the lighting right on, the fiddle looks very nice...fit for a Goldiebot :)
and to be completely honest, when I first saw it I thought it WAS a photograph...it wasn't until TR said she did it that I went back and looked again, and I still had to look closely to tell the difference.
Tarnation! You'd think something as serious as surgery would be reason enough for a doctor to confer with another and make sure everything was good to go. 😾😡
Hang in there Cent. We're all rootin' for ya.
God, needed another fiddler for his band. Rest well Charlie.
I'm sorry to see the sad lack of basic admin skills. It is unforgivable not to pay attention to the prerequisites for something serious. If I did my job that well I's have no customers.
I hope that the surgery is re-scheduled soon and the result is near perfect. Cent, that is what you deserve, but life doesn't always give you what you deserve.
BTW I too thought the image was a photograph until I read that is is not. About 2 orders of magnitude beyond my skills in 3-d CAD.
Desk chair? I have a piece of stone kitchen table that I happily will lend you. I'll need it later for a base for a morse key so please do not break it into too small pieces while 'educating' beforementioned doofus...
RIP, Charlie Daniels, you were an American legend, and you will be missed by many.
Personally Rose, I think you did a great job on the violin, and more importantly i thought "Devil went down to Georgia" when I saw it, before I saw the epitaph, so well done!
of course, now I'm thinking that must weigh between 100-150 lbs, and I'm thinking anyone who could actually play it truly IS the best that's ever been!
Actually, since a fiddle is mostly empty air, it would probably only weight around 10-15 pounds or so. It would likely be playable, though the sound would be very tinny ... kinda like a banjo, but even sharper.
Would it though? Gold is very similar to lead metallurgically speaking. It's pretty soft, so I'd envision that you wouldn't get the resonances and rich sound you'd expect from a violin. The softness of the metal, and the inertia of its mass, would absorb a lot of the vibration, leaving it sounding quite dull I would guess.
I looked into it, and apparently it can be hardened to a degree. It can be heat treated or work hardened, like many other materials. I don't know what the ultimate hardness would/could be though.
30 lbs sounds reasonable if it was wood that had been plated, be even at that weight it would be extremely difficult to play.
The weight of the violin is balanced and supported between chin and shoulder. it is not supported by the left hand, as that would impair your ability to finger. Violins typically weigh between 4 (starter violin) and 12 lbs, and violas between 7 and 15. A Stradivarius weighs just over 11 lbs, and the density of the wood is what makes the sound so special. I've seen Violins made of Mahagony, and they resonate well, but not quite on the right notes, so it sounds a little wierd when being played.
The look of the violin that Rose did though, I had imagined a tempered gold alloy approx 1/4 in. thick for the body (any less and there would be almost no resonance).
@Sheela: This is possible, but not advisable. again, a major point in constructing a musical instrument is that the body, construction and soundholes all need to resonate properly in order to produce a clear sustainable tone. Honeycombing it would deaden the acoustic resonation, and what you would have left is little more than a bowed harp.
In the case of the Electric Violins that Oldarmourer posted, tonality is achieved through electronics more than the actual instrument. they are beautiful to look at, but sound subpar when played without amplification.
(I was thinking of getting an electric cello for myself and decided against it for that very reason after playing it... and no, I'm a horrible cellist).
p.s. Where Charlie Daniels is going, this is irrelevant, his unearthly fiddle will resonate with the entire universe, and he will even get a couple of wayward stars stay in tune!!!!
@DLKmusic, Your suggestion is probably going to be the best idea: wood plated with gold. I think doing it that way, would give you a playable violin that keeps most of its acoustics. It would also likely be lighter, as the outer gold surface could be thinner.
I haven't been able to find it on YouTube, but when I was younger, I saw Charlie Daniels and Roy Clark doing a rendition of Dueling Banjos on Violins...
it was amazing the see the two of them go at it together like that!
@DLKmusic
Using 14k gold beaten to an sixteenth of an inch. You could have a fairly light and playable golden fiddle. I used to do jewelry work and the mass/hardness difference between 24k/14k is truly amazing.
Of course; nothing beats the taste, heft, or feel of pure gold.
@Sheela: No, you hid it just fine... Rose gave me a re-issue, and I now have to figure out how to keep you from stealing it again, as the Cayenne pepper didn't do a damned thing last time!
well, you were sneezing for 2 weeks, but it didn't stop you...
The taste is electrifying...especially when you get a pieces of gold foil between two fillings
'edible' gold foil my arse...and goldschlager is just awful
Interesting 'challenge' going on over at Topweb...
I'd certainly go to see Rose's artwork while Cent rests
Might even get a few fanart 'volunteers' too ;)

R I P Charlie Daniels.
Rose, that's pretty good imagery if I may say so.

...poor Cent... - I hope the reschedule will be soon...
@a/n: Rose, I think you did really good there...

If you're gonna do it, do it proper !
If you're going to steamroller yourself you need a little help from your friends

but they were way too big to post :(
All I'm hearing on news tributes and other posts is references to 'the devil went down to Georgia' over and over
It was/is a popular tune, maybe a signature tune, but I still remember him first for 'uneasy rider' :)

I don't particularly care for 'country' music but there are a few artists I do like and he was at the top of the list

Data Chasers needs more musical instruments so I can nerd out more often!!! (j/k, it's damn near perfect just as it is.)
I need to hide them better !

Rest in peace Charlie and keep your spirits up centy you'll get through this
