Why wouldn't we be considerate to the people who make this for no pay, other than the little on Patreon, in order to entertain us with such a well crafted work of art and writing ?

Nah...snap to it you slackers, we're tired of waiting !!!

Gad..I had a hard time forcing that big a chunk of bullshit through a 21" neck...damn near choked on it.

Do NOT force yourself too soon, we saw what happened to Cent after her last surgery and nobody wants to see any complications this time. Do exactly what you're told in exactly the way you're told to do it. We can amuse ourselves for as long as it takes.

The 21st century sucks in general, I want my flying cars and dial-a-meal food replicator like I was promised :( The 39th century will just have to wait until it's ready.

Seriously, be careful, don't try too much too fast or you might end up not being able to do anything which would be a not good thing for everybody.

Oh...and thanks to everyone behind the scenes for all the work that's gone into this so far, we don't say it often enough.
Meska 22nd Jul 2020, 4:12 PM edit delete reply
True words!

I am in a quandary now. How best to amuse ourselves? Cards? Billards? Taking over a small backwater Space Colony for fun and profit?
Oldarmourer 23rd Jul 2020, 1:12 PM edit delete reply
Close...take over TWO small backwater space colonies, start a war between them and take bets on the outcome while selling Tri-D rights...that's the real spectator sport ;)

heh,, i actually have a rpg,, that does just that..
Oldarmourer 24th Jul 2020, 4:09 PM edit delete reply

Please let Cent know her readership will be here awaiting her return. To not rush to get back, but just let us know how she is doing and feeling as she heals. I think we are a patent lot by nature and she's due the time to rest and recuperate.

*offers Hot Tea and warm Southern Buttermilk Biscuits with pleanty of butter and preserves on the side. Fresh Orange Honey too!*
Centcomm 22nd Jul 2020, 5:05 PM edit delete reply

Nabs the biscuits.. leaves the preserves but takes the butter. leaves the tea for Mister Black. adds Bacon. and eggs.
Oldarmourer 22nd Jul 2020, 6:28 PM edit delete reply
BACON ??? I hope that's turkey bacon...we don't need another 'incident' involving jigsaws and ribcages
Just_IDD 27th Jul 2020, 10:31 PM edit delete reply
I like something called the "before and after." It is an egg, however you like them between two chicken patties. I add Swiss chease and bbq sauce, or sometimes a different on hand.
Oldarmourer 28th Jul 2020, 7:37 AM edit delete reply
I like to cook a good turkey sausage, Costco has some in a white box I can't remember the name of and can't get any of since the @#$%^& border's closed, chop it up, add it to a couple or three eggs whipped up with a bit of water or cream, some salt (salt breaks up the proteins in eggs and makes them 'smoother') some assorted herbs and spices, I use garlic, pepper, a pepper-spice blend that comes in a grinder, curry powder and some summer savoury then nuke it until the eggs are mostly set, chop it up and stir then cover with shredded cheese and melt that then add mayo and ketchup...eggs are about the only thing I like ketchup on...sounds like a lot of work but it takes less than ten minutes and most of that's waiting for the microwave to ding ;) ever notice how the conversation inevitably drifts toward eggs ?
DLKmusic 23rd Jul 2020, 8:56 AM edit delete reply

damn, now I want biscuits... and all the employee's at the local Carls Jr. (Hardee's) are trembling in fear...
Oldarmourer 24th Jul 2020, 4:11 PM edit delete reply
biscuits and gravy isn't a big thing up here, biscuits and molasses on the other hand...
or jam, or preserves, or marmalade, or eggs and bacon/sausage/ham/cheese, or just butter
guess I'll have to make a batch now...or two..or three...
DLKmusic 24th Jul 2020, 4:28 PM edit delete reply

I love biscuits & Gravy, tis true... but when I make them myself it's usually with a ton of butter and jam, or if I feel ambitious I'll make honey butter (with a dash of almond extract).

Then after I come down from the sugar rush I sleep for 4 hours!
Oldarmourer 24th Jul 2020, 6:11 PM edit delete reply
I was introduced to biscuits, old sharp cheddar and molasses some years ago...
by a guy I worked with...native, older than me, and who'd spent a lot up time in the Arctic where it's apparently popular...
it's most often on hardtack or bannock but on hot baking powder biscuits it's like manna
as is said from days of old..."try it, you'll like it"
DLKmusic 25th Jul 2020, 7:28 AM edit delete reply

ok, I tried one of those. I shredded some cheddar that was so sharp it hurt your cheeks, and added a dollop of molasses that had been heated up.

I uh... I think I need to check my blood sugar, cause that was dangerously evil!!!!

Serously, it was great, but I think I'll stick with honey because my body digests it better than sugar.
Oldarmourer 25th Jul 2020, 11:08 AM edit delete reply
yeah, I'm down to 'no sugar added' marmalade...
most times the 'no sugar added' part just means 'it had enough already'...
Oldarmourer 29th Jul 2020, 5:51 PM edit delete reply
forgot to mention, you can get 'low sugar' (40% of regular) molasses...not much difference in taste that I find, seems just a tiny bit thinner though. I use it mostly in baked beans so it thickens up anyway. They might have sugar free molasses in a bigger centre, never seen it here so no idea what that'd taste like.

C) she was told to "use" her hand to build up the muscles,,, but not over do it.!
Oldarmourer 23rd Jul 2020, 8:52 AM edit delete reply
I was told that too, but to rest it completely for the first couple of days except to move the fingers to keep adhesions from forming. I suppose typing a few lines isn't really doing much more than that but keep an eye on her, she gets carried away ;)

Any real relief from the 'before surgery' state ? mine was almost instant.
Centcomm 23rd Jul 2020, 10:01 AM edit delete reply

yes some..releif .. lots of pain though
megados 23rd Jul 2020, 12:57 PM edit delete reply

@Centcomm, that actually doesn't look as bad as I imagined.
Centcomm 23rd Jul 2020, 2:06 PM edit delete reply

it was a operation on the A1 pulley as they call it. but .. moving the hand or the tendon or spreading the fingers ect ect still causes pain thats why im still taking pain killers. i do have a plan to get off them.
Oldarmourer 23rd Jul 2020, 3:25 PM edit delete reply
Funny how just that little bit of tissue can cause so much grief...
I had to have that cut completely and most of the A2 and the opening of the sheath in the palm, I forget what it's called, opened up to widen them.
The swelling on the tendon was in the Dr's exact words "Fucking big" :)
There's still some weakness in the finger due to that but it's so much better I'll gladly accept it.
I can curl my finger down as usual but if there's any pressure against it at all then it bends at a 90 degree angle at the second joint and you can see the tendon push against the skin from beneath it.
Cal 22nd Jul 2020, 7:01 PM edit delete reply
I've been quietly lurking, but know that you both are in my thoughts with best wishes for a complete, relatively pain-free recovery!

Another lurker here. Delighted to hear your surgery went well. I await your return to storytelling with infinite patience, as you both have already spun such a rich tapestry for us all to enjoy. Hoping your luck improves, you both deserve it!

Wooooohooo9oo. Take your time and rest centy, we'll still be here never fear.
DLKmusic 23rd Jul 2020, 1:41 AM edit delete reply

re the A/N: I'm a little concerned about the Pain killers, Cent, you've been on them for a while and they take a serious toll...

Don't worry about the comic, or doing any reboots. Concentrate on getting your hand back in working order. I'm pretty sure everyone will agree with that... We want a healthy happy you, that comes first.
robnot 23rd Jul 2020, 6:43 AM edit delete reply
there is a small group, that has been annoying her about the "nuclear grade" pain killers..
so .. welcome to the group.!!
and we have been/are keeping a eye on her....
DLKmusic 23rd Jul 2020, 8:38 AM edit delete reply

thanks, robnot. Wish I could say I'm glad to be here, but I feel like A nagging parent.

Sad thing about pain killers, Nuke grade or conventional grade doesn't matter, you will still have the same problems if you use them for too long.

I'm nagging cause I care about you, Terri! (geez, my dad used to say that!)
Oldarmourer 30th Jul 2020, 1:32 PM edit delete reply
Your dad called you Terri ? That explains a lot ;)
Oldarmourer 23rd Jul 2020, 8:55 AM edit delete reply
That was a concern of mine as well, I've seen far too many people end up in very dire straits from too much for too long.
They kept me employed, but still...
On the other hand, if a painkiller is being used for real pain then it's usually fairly easy to wean off of them, they have a different effect when they're doing their actual job.
The problem is that too many physicians prescribe ones that are too strong for what they're needed for because it makes people go away.
Oldarmourer 23rd Jul 2020, 9:03 AM edit delete reply
The goal of painkillers isn't to have 'zero pain' but to have 'manageable' pain.
Taking them over time though can build up a tolerance and Dr's overprescribe which makes it that much worse.
I fall into the group that hypermetabolizes opiates, even a couple of Tylenol 3's will knock me out cold because they act 'all at once'.
Thisis a good thing because I don't feel any euphoria whatsoever and I'd have a hard time getting addicted, but I still refuse to take anything unless it's unavoidable, like post surgery. The last time I think they dislocated my hip moving me off the table and wouldn't admit it, I needed them for a few days for sure, best naps I'd had in years :)

Sorry to harp on the subject but I've dealt with literally thousands of people who went from Jeckyll to Hyde, it scares me, and I tend to be overprotective of people I like at the best of times ;)
DLKmusic 23rd Jul 2020, 10:10 AM edit delete reply

"I tend to be overprotective of people I like at the best of times ;) "

You say that like it's a bad thing.
Oldarmourer 23rd Jul 2020, 10:50 AM edit delete reply
It is when people get tired of me telling them "for their own good" ;)
Centcomm 23rd Jul 2020, 2:04 PM edit delete reply

i have a tolerance to painkillers due to taking them way too much. I try to be very careful as i lost a friend to overdosing on them.
Old Texas 25th Jul 2020, 4:21 PM edit delete reply
There remains a huge difference between psychological addiction and physical addiction. When I became addicted to painkillers all they ever did was dull the pain - never experienced any euphoric sensations. And after a 16 year run of prescribed Oxy and Fentanel I felt it time to quit. The physical withdrawals were a real bitch, but persistence over 2 2 year period paid off and I have been sober for 4 years now - but in a world off pain that I won't even take an aspirin for.
Oldarmourer 26th Jul 2020, 5:26 AM edit delete reply
Once you hit 40, there's no such thing as 'pain free'
Once you hit 60, you'll settle for being able to move around without wincing too often
There's always something saying "remember this from when you were 19 ?"
I take the odd aspirin for arthritis and flat out refuse to take anything stronger unless I'm in a hospital and don't have a say in the matter
Damned cat got out this morning and while the dog is trained to run him down and hold him until someone grabs him, I couldn't bend down far enough to pick it up...this getting old bit really sucks but it beats the alternative...
Oldarmourer 29th Jul 2020, 7:48 PM edit delete reply
We called oxycontin "hillbilly heroin' and quite frankly heroin was easier to deal with.
They had to rewrite the book for fentanyl and the next generation is even scarier.
Accidental exposure is so much easier and what a junkie might shake off could easily be fatal to someone who hasn't built up that go from mask and gloves to air supply and full suit.
Naldru 23rd Jul 2020, 1:07 PM edit delete reply
Be sure to take it easy and relax for a while. Trying to get back to work too soon is where some people get in trouble with the pain-killers. However, I agree with Oldarmourer that the purpose of the painkillers is to make pain manageable, not make it go away. I usually found a little pain preferable to what I call the "fuzzy feeling" the painkillers cause. (It's hard to define the fuzzy feeling, but a number of people who have used painkillers know exactly what I'm talking about.) He had some very good advice.

The incisions can look bad afterwards. I don't know if you are familiar with Adam Clay ( ) from Girl Genius. After some surgery on my neck, I felt a kinship because that's what I looked like. The other big incisions I had were on my leg, and the socks covered that up. (My mother almost passed out when she saw that one. "Oh that's the small one. The main incision is over here" didn't help.)
Centcomm 23rd Jul 2020, 9:58 PM edit delete reply

yeah i know the 'fuzzy' pain killers. and getting the right one is tricky because people react differently.
Oldarmourer 23rd Jul 2020, 11:16 PM edit delete reply
My specific injury was work related but I found out that diabetics are very prone to this so that probably factored in as well, you've been sticking to the diet brown bubblewater I assume ?
Oldarmourer 23rd Jul 2020, 1:08 PM edit delete reply
Nice 'battlescar' make it about two and a half times as long and move it to the ring finger and we can be twins :)

Endoscopic doesn't seem to leave that much less of a mark, if they didn't change their minds about how to do it.
From what had been described earlier, I'd envisioned a small incision toward the base of the palm and all the fingers being done through that.
Hope it feels better quickly, it should but everyone's different.
I know mine still feels a little iffy now and again but only about 5% of what it was and that's probably arthritis instead of anything to do with the surgery.
KarToon12 23rd Jul 2020, 2:10 PM edit delete reply

I hope you feel better soon! <3

Now would be a great time to plan out future storylines and polish the scripts for the ones already laid out...

Which I'm sure is what's going on behind the scenes along with a substantial amount of rest and recharging.

The rest of Feelie's part is well worth waiting for simply because she's one of my new favourite characters...

But I'm really on the edge of my seat waiting for TeeDee's visit with the robo-shrink where she'll find out that her animosity toward humans is a result of her deeply repressed nymphomanical tendencies evidenced by her frustrated fascination with the firearm as a substitute phallic symbol...
Should be a real barnburner

Oldarmourer 30th Jul 2020, 7:56 AM edit delete reply

For what you are about to receive, I am truly sorry... ;)
This should get the creative staff working hard to rehabilitate the artist...or I'll make another one !

Just couldn't seem to do this one justice, but it's as good as it's going to get...for now...
I might 'adjust' it later, which would probably be for the best.

Tune goes something like this...although you'd never know it from these 'lyrics'
Thankfully most of the band are dead so the odds of being sued went down :)

Tales of Mad Aeneas (with apologies to Cream)

You thought the Roma leader
Had brought you down forever
But you took him to the cleaners
And the war has just begun

And the colors of the AI
Bind your eyes with rambling stories
And your ears they're being filled up
With tales of Mad Aeneas

How his subroutines were tortured
By the damage that's still lingering
For the Praetorians are calling you
To shoot them from the hip

And you see a girl's pale body
Dancing through the data
And her Treasures make you better
While some kid fixes your frame

And when finally you see her
She shows a frozen body
Even Deep Blue doesn't know of
As she calibrates your mind

You're saddled with this drivel
'Cause the artist borked her finger
It really sucks to be you
Since I don't know rhyme or metre

Her name it is Acantha
And she rides a crimson grav bike
Across the blasted wasteland
Because she ran away from home

You asked her if she's friendly
She said "here's your fucking cookie"
But your browser's set to block them
So you keep it under glass

Acantha and her party
Run madly through your tunnels
You want to bring her to you
While Prince Douchy turns to cinders
DLKmusic 30th Jul 2020, 10:02 AM edit delete reply

you don't know rhyme or metre? My Ass you don't! well done!

ps. that was the best stanza in the entire piece...

They seem pretty fluid in the song so I suppose you can't really go wrong ;)

It popped up in my playlist awhile back, it hadn't come up in the rotation since I put it there years ago
The first 'DC' verse that pretty much instantly forced itself on me and took unspeakable liberties was...

"Her name it is Acantha, and she drives a crimson grav bike" just threw itself at me :)

Then it was the 'cookie' verse

The one about Cent's finger didn't get added until about five minutes before it got posted when I was trying to finish it off and having a very hard is readily apparent.

It's hard to do psychedelic stuff on coffee alone :)

Oldarmourer 30th Jul 2020, 1:39 PM edit delete reply
I've seen your work, you can do it yourself :P
I still can't shake the feeling that there should have been one more verse in the original, it just feels 'off'
I might go back and add it for them yet :)

Sadly, I have a few more perking on the think this was bad...
Better pray for crappy stick figures or a guest artist...
DLKmusic 30th Jul 2020, 2:24 PM edit delete reply

Actually, any song butchering I might otherwise be willing to do I have to put on the back-burner. I was in an auto accident that really screwed up my right hand, and I am in the process of spending most of my time trying to re-learn how to pick and strum a guitar, because I have no feeling in my right pinky, and can't use it to pivot my hand any more. (just a note about guitar playing, your speed comes from your right hand with the pick, not the left hand on the fingerboard).

I haven't even sat at a keyboard since the accident for the same reason, and I'm afraid to hear how bad I would sound even playing something simple!

Nope, for now, I'm gonna have to leave this aspect in the capable hands of you and Gilrandir, and I will be cheering from the sidelines!
Oldarmourer 30th Jul 2020, 2:55 PM edit delete reply
Are you and Cent in some sort of competition ?
Sorry to hear about the hand, I can't play guitar at all...
well, I can get six notes out of one...four out of a bass...
I was a drummer for some years but my left hand isn't the same since I had what Cent's going through and arthritis in general isn't making it any easier
That said, I've seen what you do with lyrical legerdemain and it puts my scribblings to shame...
and you seem to still be able to type ;)

I'm almost embarrassed to force this drivel on a captive audience...luckily, I don't embarrass easily.
I'm certainly no Al Yankovic or Bob Rivers, I don't claim or try to be.
But if someone gets a smile out of one of these then I'm happy.
Guess I spent too much time in radio not to try and stretch as far as I can for the gag...
and if it flops, nobody will remember in three minutes or one cartoon page ;)
megados 30th Jul 2020, 6:12 PM edit delete reply

@DLKmusic, that's pretty good too! Immediately recognizable! Between you, @Gilrandir, and @Oldarmourer, we have a formidable trio of lyricists! Well worth the admission price! XD. (Well including Cent and Rose's main act).

@Oldarmourer, don't be embarrassed, it takes a knack that I don't really have. (Don't let it go to your head though!) XD😅😂😀
DLKmusic 30th Jul 2020, 6:36 PM edit delete reply

that's kind of you, @megados, but be fair, mine is nowhere near the level of what Oldarmourer did, either in effort or execution. I posted it as a one off gag in response to Oldarmourer's last reply to me.

It may be true that I've done some of these that I'm proud of, (somewhere over the wasteland, for instance), most are like this one, where more thought went into the joke that it did into the verse. by any measure, Tales of Mad Aeneas is much better!
Oldarmourer 30th Jul 2020, 6:51 PM edit delete reply
99% of them start off with me saying "that's so dumb it might work" :)
Most just write themselves and I'm always surprised nobody else did it first...
"Feelie's Boobies" is a perfect example, it took about five minutes to write and I really expected to see it already up when I went to post it.
Someof the others I just hear a song and a line changes then another and then I have to go find the lyrics and start swapping words around, the hardest part is that I try to use as much of the original structure as I can instead of a complete rewrite just keeping the tune like the pros do.
Guess that's why I don't get royalties ;)
Oldarmourer 30th Jul 2020, 6:59 PM edit delete reply
The nice part as well as the hard part of 'tales of Aeneas' is that the rhythm and word breaks jumps around violently from line to line, it's so disjointed that it's paradoxically easy to drop words in and extremely difficult at the same time to try and do a linear storyline to I didn' worked for Clapton ;)
DLKmusic 30th Jul 2020, 7:07 PM edit delete reply

That's actually one of the reasons why what you did was so good! It has the same intensity of the original song, along with the disjointed feeling like you're caught in the Charybdis Maelstrom.

I would say this is among the best you've done, and it certainly compares favorably to what I consider my best efforts!
Oldarmourer 30th Jul 2020, 7:35 PM edit delete reply
I think I did better with 'reload fever' or the 'breakers bar' ones or even 'Feelie's Boobies' still my fave :)
But thank you, coming from a professional that's high praise indeed and I appreciate it.
Good thing you haven't seen what I just came up with in the last ten minutes...yet.
I only dropped in to check something in the cast page, I hate being wrong, I'm used to it but I still don't like it
Oldarmourer 30th Jul 2020, 7:54 PM edit delete reply

Alright, you got me full of myself...
I was going to wait until next week but here you go...
A whole ten minutes work and it shows...
Written with a particular scene in mind that just sort of wrote itself in

Gold Eyed Lady (sorry Sugarloaf)

Gold-eyed lady, paleskinned lady
Springing quickly towards the guns
Gold-eyed lady, white haired lady
Splitting every raging slug that comes

Gold-eyed lady, Cassian lady
Dressed in black, with boots up to the knee
Gold-eyed lady, sword so fast they never see
Setting heads and lungs and livers free

Gold-eyed lady, little lady
Rules the fight, the last to stand
Gold-eyed lady, subtle lady
Sense of humour, so deadpan

Gold-eyed lady, Cassian lady
Knows each Bluie, and what their crimes have been
Gold-eyed lady she only came to see
If by chance your radio was free

That is actually kind of Ironic... this was the song I was going to request!

Thanks @Gilrandir. The accident was in September last year, and the recovery is as good as it's going to get at this point. I'm not thrilled about losing 50 years of muscle memory, but at least I have the ability to work around it, and I know what to do.

It will probably be a year or so before I'm willing to play in public again, but on the flip side, I WILL be able to play in public again, I just need to keep at it.

Gotta stop listening to music while I surf...
Another five minute rewrite that pretty much put a gun to my head and said "post this !!"
I was going to save it for next week but...DLK mentioned Ada ;)
I guess if we're going to head for a record page length you have to start somewhere :)
Ada needs a little attention too and if you haven't heard the tune...please listen to it first to get the beat

Broken Spaceship Blues (I always liked Lighthouse, pity about what just happened to their song)

My version ends awkwardly, there should almost be another verse, but it's as good as it's going to get...for today, anyway

Got a shanked up princess chillin' in warm cryo, got to get her to New Troy, no delay
Grabbed our stuff and headed for the hangar, time just wasn't goin' our way
Met Marcus at the gate, he said "HEY! Who's that android with the sword in her hand?"
"She's a Cassian and she's goin' with me, seein' the princess needs a friend"

Forty thousand feet and I'm climbin', I got the broken Princess blues
Fifty thousand feet and I'm flyin', let's see what this thing will do

Then Bitchin' Betty spoke up and said, "This craft just isn't built for this speed
You're breakin'all the safety regulations, the envelope you'll surely exceed"
I shut it off and said "I know what I'm doing, I've worked the flightpath out and it's cool"
Then I lied and said, "Don't you worry 'bout it none, it'll buff out and look just like new"

Sixty thousand feet and I'm climbin', I got the pilot implant moves
Ninety thousand feet and I'm flyin', this patient's not gonna lose

Hundred thousand feet we're still climbin', time to really turn this thing loose
Hit orbital insertion and I'm smilin', it's time to light the 'go fast' fuse
Eighty thousand feet now we're divin', this speed record should make the news
Thirty thousand feet, engine's dyin', it really paid it's dues
Seven thousand feet and I'm glidin', I got the smokin' speeder blues
Smacked down hard on the deck and it's slidin', call out the fire crews !!
megados 31st Jul 2020, 12:25 PM edit delete reply

Yep that pretty much covers it! Nice!
jawbone 1st Aug 2020, 9:21 AM edit delete reply

There is a (possibly apocryphal) story about a pilot of a USMC F-4 Phantom departing someplace like Edwards AFB, with an instruction to report end of runway. He reports something like "..., Out of ten thousand, out of twenty thousand, end of runway."

This always reminds me of watching NASA ER-2s departing Moffett NAS climbing out at 45 degrees and still hearing the exhaust when the pilot reports 30,000 feet. Oh, and Fat Albert doing RATO takeoffs during air shows there.
Oldarmourer 1st Aug 2020, 12:28 PM edit delete reply
A friend of mine worked in Air Traffic Control when we were in the Airforce back in the 70's
She used to do approach control among other things
The conversation apparently went...
"Aircraft 047 you are on heading, rate of descent is good, you are wide of the glide slope, turn right to correct"
"Aircraft 047 you are on heading, you are above the glide slope, adjust your rate of descent to correct"
"Aircraft 047, you are on heading, on glide slope, you should have the runway in sight, this is a recording"

And there's nothing like hearing and feeling the sound of two 101's kicking in the afterburners and watching the glowing red dots climbing up and away in the night sky...

Going through a "quick" re-read, I want to point something out to all the Kyle haters...

Kyle may be a kid with an invincibility complex, but for my book, he has earned quite a bit of slack for his attitude on this page that he hasn't really gotten from us.
Oldarmourer 1st Aug 2020, 12:18 PM edit delete reply
Kyle's only problem is is he just doesn't listen to experience...
none of us did when we were that age, that's why you don't put kids in charge ;)
Haven't had a song for him pop out at me yet, maybe some day...
Of course, now that it's been mentioned it'll probably be tomorrow
DLKmusic 1st Aug 2020, 1:18 PM edit delete reply

Sadly, 3 different Monkeys songs come to mind for Kyle... "We're the Monkeys" for derisive, Daydream Believer for complimentary, or "Last train to Clarksville (last tram to Aeneas)" for active...
Oldarmourer 1st Aug 2020, 3:01 PM edit delete reply
his biggest mistake was not doing what TR told him to...
It worked out for the best in the end but he didn't know that when he did it and if by some strange twist he had managed to shoot douchy when he had the chance it wouldn't have worked out at all...
He's guilty of thinking with the wrong head, as youth tend to do, and thinking their plan is better than that of someone who does nothing but plan.
Oldarmourer 2nd Aug 2020, 5:30 AM edit delete reply

I'd copied the lyrics to a Monkees song to hack just before you mentioned them...not going to say which one
I did buy four of their albums when I was a teeny and still have them, mostly, the cat used them as a scratching board
A lot of people dismiss them but they really did have some very good tunes and played their own instruments

Micky Dolenz was an accomplished singer before and after the show, easily seen here...a tune I still listen to

Goin' Down

and it only got better with age... Goin' Down Again
I can't move like that now and I'm younger than he was then :(
DLKmusic 2nd Aug 2020, 11:41 AM edit delete reply

I agree about the monkees. A lot of people don't realize it, but they had a couple of 1st rate songwriters working on that show, most notably Neil Diamond (Daydream Believer) and Mac Davis (Last train to Clarksville). Their tunes flip flopped from bubblegum to brilliant!

Many called them a fake band, but they were real actor/musicians.
Oldarmourer 2nd Aug 2020, 3:34 PM edit delete reply
the sad part was that for the first few albums they had to fight to get to play at all, all the managers wanted them to do was sing and use studio musicians, but they were doing real concerts playing their own songs and there was a helluva row until they got control.
The biggest problem was getting to play the instruments they were best at when management tried to dictate who played what for no logical reason.
It was just a schmozzle from the get go, it's amazing that they had as many #1 Albums and hits as they did with that going on and I always wondered how many more they would have had if they'd been allowed to be themselves from the start.
DLKmusic 2nd Aug 2020, 5:16 PM edit delete reply

[nerd mode on]
I don't think they would have been as successful to be honest. Maybe more respected, but the success of their music was a byproduct of the success of the show, which brought in money by the fistful.

They did 2 movies, of which they had creative control (they invested their own money in the production), and neither movie did much better than break even. Which is arguably because their fan base wanted the movies to be an extension of the show, and wound up getting 2 psychedelic free-for-alls. When pre-teen girls want to see Davey Jones flash his pearly whites, and instead get naked girls rolling on the grass...

I do intend to have a song for every character...even the new ones that haven't been added yet :)

Kyle may take awhile...

I toyed with this one for Kyle and I'm sure TR would have helped edit it right after Douchy shot him...

But it all worked out in the end and what's done is done so maybe someone else deserves it more...

I lived in Nova Roma, right smack in the middle of Aeneas's DMZ and a few other spots closer to the castle

I live an hour or so away now, the bridge hasn't gotten bombed out or the ferry torpedoed...yet ;)

So I'll offer this quaint tune performed in a variant of the local dialect as a memorial to one of it's unforgettable faces...

You can hear it sung on streets and taverns even today but it can sound a little harsh to the delicate of ear...

You were warned ;)

note: I met these guys back in the 70's and shared quite a few drinks and laughs with them.
One of their cousins was in the group I was with and we didn't believe him...
Until they spotted him and came over during the break and after the show to ride him mercilessly :)
No different offstage than on...they come from a place a little east of Nova Roma, Cassians travel in pairs there.

Requiem for a Tyrant--Douchie's Lament aka 'Farewell to Gavin'
It's live so give it about 30 seconds to start or skip to 1:05 for a cleaner (sound quality ;) ) version

for some reason youtube has put all the non-live 'short' versions behind a login screen...can't imagine why :)

also for some reason I forgot that I originally intended it for Gavin, it was supposed to be his one useful moment
Got sidetracked thinking about Kyle and douchy while writing the intro...
so it's a dual purpose ditty for a pair you'd never pity...

Artwork, story, characters, plots..and subplots..and sub-sub-plots and sub-sub-sub plots...
The incessant bits of drivel I put out to pad the comments section and hopefully bring someone a little bit of a laugh are mere snippets of scenes, frozen seconds of a 13 year long story.
Keeping all the personas of the characters consistent and their intricately intertwined stories straight is an act of monumental proportions, their houses must be so full of towering stacks of character sheets and plot notes that the creatrixes must have to sleep on their respective porches.
That's what keeps us coming back, the sheer magnitude of this epic that you don't really see until you sit back from a long read and go " it to me again !!"
I still say this should be an animated series, or a movie.
Someone out there must know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody to make that happen.

I ramble on and on, I know, I'm not deliberately trying to monopolize the forums...
I've always enjoyed chatting with others who share an interest.

It's just that the creativity I see brings out what little I have and when the comic can't go up I try do do something to help fill the space...
That and I'm sort of addicted to rewriting songs now, I blame Gilrandir, DLKMusic, and Megados for that ;)
Maybe someday I'll come up with something a tenth as good as 'Fly Around Ada' or 'Go Go Doc Silver' or the unsurpassable 'Modern Android Factory' but until then, you get this ;)

Hai, Densetsu, domo arigato...I think ?

I have to confess that Japanime in general and most Hentai in particular doesn't do an awful lot for me.

The only exceptions I've found so far are the series 'Strike Witches" and it's spinoffs and "Samurai Pizza cats"...

I've grown to recognize quite a few catchwords only be seeing them over and over and over in comments sections :)

I don't look at Tokyo Rose as being an anime character...she's just drawn that way ;)

I have been known to indulge in unjustified flights of 'creative license'. There is at least a very good chance you may be younger than I. But you seem to have military experience I don't, so -- assuming you are a Beethoven fan, why not construe it as "Sempai Fur Elise"

(( I really wanted to make it "Sempai Fleur De Lis", but couldn't find a way to make you both French and an American Marine. You aren't, by any chance, a veteran of the French 47th Infantry Regiment, are you? ))
DLKmusic 3rd Aug 2020, 2:33 PM edit delete reply

I'm also going to add that putting Doc SIlver and Spaceship Ada in the same category of Tales of Mad Aenaeus or Modern android factory is like comparing Paul Revere and the raiders to the Beatles.

I will say though that I think Modern Android Factory is probably the best one that ANY of us has posted... once again, well done Gilrandir

I really think 'Mad Aeneas" is one of the poorer things I've had the audacity to post but the listener is never wrong ;)

I laughed out loud at "Fly Around Ada" and louder at "Go Go Doc Silver" just to mention a few.
The one I have lined up for her won't be nearly as good but it's in the works :)
"Modern Android Factory" is the gold standard so far, I'll settle for tinplate.
