In 100% unrelated news, Mister Black and I had a crisis this morning. Some FUCKNIBBLER in fucking Thailand (hooray for IP trace) hacked his Steam account, email account, and Amazon account, in that order. Probably didn't expect we'd be awake at four in the morning. SURPRISE, COCKWATTLE. We managed to get passwords changed and accounts properly recovered and secured in a handful of minutes. FEAR THE POWER OF THE NIGHT OWL. But it was scary and upsetting and ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INFURIATING. It made me have violent fantasies about what happens to these goddamn parasites in the Data Chasers universe, ranging from Deep Blue giving them virtual hand-slaps and cutting off their stolen access, up to Tokyo Rose sending out a Shikome to kick in doors and beat the ever-loving shit out of the perpetrators while a Chokushi electronically reams their computer out until it qualifies for a "gaping anus" tag on Pornhub.
I thought so at first too, but I don't think so. Last we knew she was still waiting for her final heart. I got the impression that Ophelia's episode was happening concurrently rather than sequentially. Acantha will need some recovery time after the second heart is installed while they make sure that its a happy heart. Although I think they said they were growing it from her tissue. So maybe that takes care of the rejection issues that we currently see.

Its asshats like that, make me wish that A: I had the resources to take a vacation to their general vicinity and "engineer an accident" and B: that cyberjacks and black ice really existed...
I meant main transmission line pre-transformer voltage directly to the individual's computer :)
carbon bonding their fingers to the keyboard is a suitable punishment
Sympathies and condolences to you, @Tokyo Rose and @MrBlack, on being the target of the attack. And congratulations and kudos for detecting it so early and acting so promptly to mitigate any damage. I can only imagine what that must have been like. I hope you suffer no more loss or inconvenience from it than you already have.
Sorry to hear about the hack. The fact that multiple accounts were hacked in series suggests that you might not be using best practice in selecting passwords. I don't want to be insulting, but are you using some sort of password safe?
Not completely so once they had the email an attacker could start modifying other ones.
Imagine if you will a giant slider...on one side is Convenience on the other is SECURITY. Where you put the slider depends on you on a per site basis. The basis I use is what is the financial or identity impact.
This is why you should turn on two-factor fo all accounts that support it. I use a NFC YUBIKEY to access my email. It works from my mobile and any physical devices I my use. That way ALL login attempts won't work if you don't provide authorization.
Don't save credentials in browser stores. Allowing personal devices without two-factor verification as a convenience simply makes it convenient for an attacker when they get into that system.
I suggest that everyone should check out haveibeenpwned or if you want to know what it is first...
No matter how secure you make your passwords and account names...
You can have 512 bit encryption further encoded with a single use 1024 bit key...
Whoever you have the account with also has to have that password or you're not getting in...
And we've seen lots of cases lately where passwords and other data has pretty much been kept...
"In a sealed mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnell's doorstep" for those who remember that one ;)
If your security is airtight then someone else's wasn't...and they don't really care in the slightest
especially if you have to use their services or it's a gov't site.
Oldarmourer's point is why you should have different passwords on every site, just in case it's not clear to everyone. Not that I don't think it's clear to most people, but I've met a few people who wouldn't connect that dot on their own.
My point is that it doesn't matter how complicated your passwords are or how many you have, someone in the business/agency at the other end of the system your account is contained in is keeping their password to that system on the equivalent of a post-it note stuck to their monitor...
Most everybody has probably already seen this, but it compares astonishly well real life...
You just need to change 'digital infrastructure' for 'corporate security'

The real fun event is when you find that the random person in Nebraska left ten years, nobody knows where he is, and nobody has the source code. This happened during Y2K remediation. In addition, nobody was sure who the random person was. I was able to rewrite the modules by back-engineering from the software that was calling them.
Funny you should mention that. Y2K caused almost none of the expected problems, and a bunch of unexpected ones. I had to do some of the same on some old unsupported S/W that was mostly transparent until then. Nothing really serious, but a PITA.
We can hope he believes in privacy rights. I can't think of anything more invasive than someone, or a group of someones, rumaging though your memories.
I think Ophelia would be astonished if he gave her respect and freedom even at that basic level. She is acustom to dealing with someone to whom the one finger salute was warranted even if it risked death.
Maxus would know how good for the country it would be to have the Cassians willfully and fully supporting the leadership.
"I think Ophelia would be astonished if he gave her respect and freedom even at that basic level. She is acustom to dealing with someone to whom the one finger salute was warranted even if it risked death.
Maxus would know how good for the country it would be to have the Cassians willfully and fully supporting the leadership."
Given Noctis' reaction to the respect and equality given the NT androids, I tend to agree. Decimus didn't know or appreciate the Cassians' value and worth, but I would expect Maxus to. He has worked with them, and knows their strengths. Ophelia may be in for an ass chewing, but that doesn't necessarily mean Maxus doesn't respect her, or thinks her to be useless.
Reading the comic again, slowly this time, it does seem a little as if the conversation could go that way
There is the chance, if not likelihood, given the way we've already seen Maxus treat slaves and Androids
that he may well have decided not to go directly to Feelie's memories but wants to hear her own words
but given the possible threat to Nova Roma, he might well use every possible tool he can muster to head it off
Could go either way, but looking at Feelie's past performance I'm still thinking it's lunch time
Maybe a 'High Tea' sort of affair with little finger sandwiches instead of a 'dagwood special' but her dead squad deserves a memorial meal.
Well, at least Ophelia's wait wasn't too long, unlike some doctor's visits, thankfully due in part, to Tennyo's being a model of efficiency. It seems that even the information from the scan wasn't detailed enough to completely tell the story. Ophelia is understandably nervous to be called in by Maxus, in this case. He'd be enough to give anyone pause.
Sorry to hear of your ordeal, Rose. We have had a couple of smaller instances similar to yours in the past, and yes it is unsettling to say the least. We also quickly recovered, but it still leaves a bad taste even so. I'm glad that your ordeal left no lasting damage.
"unlike some doctor's visits, thankfully due in part, to Tennyo's being a model of efficiency.".
This made me dream that Tennyo was her usual, efficient, self as she ensured that there will be VERY long waits at Doctors' offices, since she efficiently set all the hospitals and clinics in Nova Roma on fire...
Looks like Maxus isn't using the 'reverse sandwich' interview technique but the standard 'sandwich' one
and Feelie seems to already realize that's she's going to be the filling...with extra mustard :)
I'm not familiar with the sandwich terminology, but the fact that our Lord General acts like she is not in the room for about a minute is NOT a sign of a happy debriefing.
The 'sandwich' interview technique is taught on various military, and possibly corporate leadership courses...
or it was, that was a while back ;)
It consists of bread-filling-bread...a positive opening, the necessary negative bits and a positive ending
Most often it's "good work on *** but..." and the 'but' is the killer ;)
Then come the various ways you fucked up and cost time/money/people/equipment/product etc.
Then a nice glowing ending like "I'm sure you can -insert corporate buzzwords of the week here- to our mutual benefit"
The filling can be a nice smooth cooling pineapple and cream cheese or the hottest mustard you can imagine...
It depends on the level of fucked you brought to the mission/events being discussed
The 'reverse sandwich' is exactly what it implies, normally starting with "sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up"
In the military, you don't get to sit...your hat usually comes off too aka 'the hatless dance'
or an 'interview without coffee'
Then follows a lengthy diatribe on your shortcomings and how they affected the world as we know it
The paper-thin slice of bread in the middle might be "you have potential followed by another 'but'..." and little else
The filling slathered on top might consist of various "you will..."'s and "this will happen..."'s
Depending on your relationship with the interviewer, various references to your lineage and stability may be added
A 'reverse sandwich' normally costs you something immediately..time/money/privilege etc.
A 'normal' sandwich usually contains an implied threat of such should performance not improve radically.
Yeah, I never ran into that in the Air Force. I honestly wonder if this isn't some BS cooked up recently, though. I had a manager at IBM pull that. I was already planning to leave--that sealed the deal. I don't appreciate attempts to emotionally manipulate me.
Admittedly, the last time I had training in that particular technique was some 20 years ago...
The first time was some 40 years ago
The last time I used it was last week ;)
Motivating people working for you and holding them accountable for their actions isn't 'manipulation'
It's necessary at times to prevent possibly hazardous situations from re-occuring
Listing the positive with the negative is a very good idea and helps the interviewee to see the message isn't personal
Discipline should always be about 'what you did' not 'who you are'
If all anyone ever hears from their superior is negatives then they have no incentive to act positively
You are going to fuck up, you are going to be held accountable, it's better to be held accountable in a reasoned manner
That doesn't mean if someone does something memorably dangerous you don't correct them on the spot...
You do, however, need to follow up on that when the danger has passed and heads are cooler
One of our old sayings was "if you've never fucked up then you've never done anything"
Another was, if you haven't gotten 'told' then your supervisors aren't paying attention.
For the record, I don't agree with that particular writer's opinion, it just happened to be 'first'.
It's opinions like that, implying that people never have to be held accountable for their actions, that create more problems than they solve.
Don't want to be disciplined ? Don't do things that you can be disciplined for...
Don't expect to be able to damage a company or affect a mission and be praised for it.
Do your job or find another one to do
You want to be paid ? do what you're being paid to do.
"the fact that our Lord General acts like she is not in the room for about a minute is NOT a sign of a happy debriefing."
It wasn't intended to imply that he doesn't see her as a person or something. I've been around people who've undergone trauma or are coming out of medical procedures, and it's often safer to ask for a general status update from someone who isn't potentially... wibbly-brained, if that makes sense.
Wait for it...it might not be 'worse than', but it will probably be 'as bad as'...
People died, not androids or robots, but people and Maxus is if nothing else, protective of the Nova Roman people
and rightly or wrongly, Androids simply aren't afforded the same status as humans in Nova Roma.
The bread for the sandwich has already been placed on the plate with Maxus asking how Ophelia was recovering
You'll notice he asked Hrist, not Ophelia directly...
and since Ophelia had the audacity to suggest he already had all the information he wanted
The polite but neutral "nice to see you in a proper chassis" may well be an ominous greeting
Possibly followed by "like the one you already had..."
In my experience, when a senior Officer says he needs you to "fill in a few blank spots"
The next words out of his mouth are most often something along the lines of... "Such as, what in the proverbial FUCK possessed you into thinking that ***** was a good idea ?"
The conversation generally goes downhill from there...quickly.
Maxus appears to prefer to speak calmly, logically and directly which is likely the most chilling way to be 'sandwiched'
I can see the filling of Feelie's sandwich consisting of references to dead troops, a fried Cassian body that could have fallen into enemy hands, the need to pay civilians for rescuing her, with the concurrent security risks they've added
and even having to be prompted not to discuss sensitive information over an unsecured channel
Add in a few dollops of spicy mustard like "do you remember why you were sent out there in the first place?"
Then top it off with another nice fluffy slice of bread as in "your report does provide us some intel on things we were unsure of and steps are being taken due to it"
Then add the big, juicy sour pickle on top... "You were sent out of the palace to learn leadership, apparently you also need to learn decorum...and discretion
The chassis you most recently occupied is being refurbished to Cassian standards...
when completed, you will remount it and be assigned as aide-de-camp to Senator Calavius until notified otherwise...
there is much to learn from him, all of which you will report immediately and in detail to Tennyo, or Noctis on her return"
"Dismissed...Hrist, remain I have additional instructions for you in this matter"
Been a sandwich eater and a sandwich maker...neither is much fun but troops gotta eat...
Besides,we haven't seen the 'lusty bunny' mode in action yet ;)
just a fyi reminder,, Androids did die.! two that i can think of right off the top of my head.. an if you remember one Killed prince douche..
and "Creators" correct me if im wrong.!! but Maxus will and has protected Cassains/Androids in place of humans..
Which is the pity?: The doubt Maxus wouldn't see them as human, or that Noctis let them live?
I think Maxus sees them as human, just that they're mostly degenerates. That Noctis let them live, does more to speak well of Noctis than anything else. It says that she avoids needless killing where she can.
At the time, douchy was still alive and she was probably inhibited from killing anyone who wasn't trying to kill her or violating his orders and they were mostly wearing blue to get out of a death sentence anyway so I can't see Maxus or her or pretty much anyone else caring much about them...except douchy he buys only the cheapest loyalty
Not really. At the time, she was carrying out her "plan for the glory of Nova Roma", which she got Douchy to agree to her implementing. Her plan, of course, was aimed at preventing Douchy from achieving his attempt at getting rid of Maxus, and those loyal to him. (and ultimately getting Acantha on the Throne) At that point those were her orders, and she basically had carte blanche as far as actions she could take. Basically she was uninhibited as far as discretion in killing was concerned, and it was more or less up to her. It seemed to me, she only did what was necessary toward her goal. That was the point where she let those guys go.
I seem to recall that Hrist has some kind of duty as medic or equivalent; The General addressing her instead of addressing Ophelia directly may just be a matter of consulting the doctor about the patient's condition and not an indication that her butt's about to get handed to her.
On the other hand if Hrist is acting in some more general role here such as captain or superior officer etc, then Maxus addressing her instead of Ophelia about Ophelia's condition is ominous as Hell. That kind of you-dont-exist snub in a military organization usually presages a butt-chewing of the first order and likely disciplinary action.
Going from what ophelia says about the 'brain scan' and how Maxus should already have all the details...
That seems to suggest that while it might be easy to see the decisions she made and actions she took
The question of why she ended up making and taking those decisions and actions needs to be answered...
I could be wrong, but I have a vague memory of either Cent or Rose saying that they were 'obtained from various places'. I took it to mean it was kind of an eclectic collection, assembled over time. Or I dreamt it. (¬_¬)
Except I may be wrong, but I had gotten the impression that Cassian technology equals or exceeds the capability of equivalent models (such as Black Angels) from the other nation states, Maybe that is just me being wrong, though.
A direct answer is next to impossible, so I'll beat around the bush a little. The only instance I can think of where a direct comparison could be made, would be when Kali and Dolly were sparring, right before Decimus' demise. Up until "Libertatum" released Kali from control, the two were fairly evenly matched, it seemed (to me). When Kali had the chance to act toward Decimus, she used a questionable move and broke Dolly's leg to incapacitate her. Dolly had thought the new body was inadequate in a fight like this. There was some discussion about it, and about Dolly's newer body being more "squishy", and I seem to remember being told by the Creatrixes, that if Dolly had her old body, she would have defeated Kali. That wouldn't necessarily hold true for every Cassian though. Or I'm wrong and spewing nonsense again. We really don't know which model(s) the Cassians are, but my guess is in the range of model 3s. Nova Roma might also have their own modifications to the "stock" chassis. For instance we do know they add internal inhibitors, and sometimes explosives, and incendiary packs. Also, it depends on the individual, I think. Each of the Cassians has their own strengths and weaknesses, so it might depend on who we're talking about, and what circumstances. This is as much of a non-answer as I could come up with.
I remember there being much debate about Dolly and Kali’s respective martial prowess and skill, with no definitive pronouncements from the creatrices. I am just sharing my personal impression. I am probably wrong.
You could as easily be right. We do agree that there was an amount of discussion about it. I might be misremembering who mentioned it, but I thought it was inferred that Dolly's old body would have had her prevailing.
@ Gilrandir. Dolly vs Kali = Kali every time.. i don't remember where, but Kali was playing nice,, and Dolly used every trick she knew , an barely bloodied her.!
insider info,, on Cici,, Cici vs any 3 Cassians,,. Cici walks away...
so, Black Angel's are no match for any 2 Cassians...
@ Tokyo Rose
To protect a Steam account, one can enable something optional called "Steam Guard Mobile Authentication". Basically, you have to install a Steam app to your phone or mobile device. Once you do and enable it, you're given a new, separate password. And this app has a function to give a constantly changing 5-digit password. Now, to log into Steam proper, you have to use the Steam Guard feature of that Steam app on your mobile. You are given another password to keep in a safe place for the case where you lose your mobile device or want to remove the Steam Guard feature. But if a hacker were to hack your account, there's not much they can do without your mobile device or the separate password to remove or change Steam Guard.
It is a hassle and I kind of hated it. But after reading of your incident, I'm glad that I'm using it. And it does seem that Steam accounts are a tempting target for hackers.
Did a little theorizing on why Nova Roma A/C seem to be so heavily loaded with what look like energy weapons
Well, not so much theorizing as "it came to me like a flash, like a vision...burnt across the clouds"... theorizing implies thought ;)
I considered that the skies would likely be as dangerous as the ground, what with wasteland mosquitoes et al
It then occured to me that the only thing worse than a murderturd would be a flying murderturd...
And the only thing worse than a flying murderturd would be a firebreathing flying murderturd
I then remembered seeing this and went looking for it....
Missiles wouldn't be much good except in direct fire or optical track...
Getting and maintaining a radar lock on flesh might be dicey and an IR lock...forget it, it makes it's own decoy flares
All it needs now is a DC name, the spot on the map just says "Here be Dragons" :)
Oh, I know those, they're called "Scaly Motherfuckers", and are hard to chew.
It takes a while to bury them, as they don't fit in the front yard !
Alternatively, they can be called "Rose's pet got out again!", but she would probably correct you, and turn off your afterburner ... bad times all around !!
See this is one thing that always bugs me about the whole "Supernatural/Mutant creatures appear and they are impervious to our weapons" trope. People really just do not comprehend how powerful a 3,324 ft/s 30mm DU round is and more so when fired at 3,900 rpm
Hence the 'kill' stencils on the canopy...although we don't know if these particular 'dragons' travel in flocks
Who know's what's behind him...and the gun's in the front...
He does have a 'shoot' cue though...
Yeah, I'm about 2.5 for both also, with an exception for grilled cheese sandwiches, in which case I prefer 3-4 because they're usually fried with butter.
For anyone who just has to have sugar in their coffee but aren't supposed to have sugar in their coffee (like me)
I'm pretty sure this is sold in the US, if it isn't write nasty notes to walmart and grocery chains until it is ;)
It says 7gm of sugar per Tbsp but it has artificial sweetener on top of that, you don't really need more than a Tsp for coffee.
Or less, one Tsp seems to be about the same sweetness as two Tsp of sugar.
The mocha flavour completely covers any artificial sweeter taste and adds a little chocolate as well...
Scumpdidlyicious :)
It also goes good with milk on it's own, but that's what it was meant for and who does things like that ?
cream is alright if you're not watching fat grams, it doesn't have sugar...
the carton of whipping cream in my fridge says 0gm
but even skim milk has half as much sugar as pop...13gm/cup for skim milk, 26gm/cup for pop(soda)
Some people say "cream has saturated fat and you're going to die"
Other studies say that the type of fat found in dairy actually protects the heart...
The only sure things about studies that you can always find two that say the exact opposite...so pick the one you like :)
i might be allergic , but ANY artificial sweetener (as) leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.. (friends did a blind test to prove a point,, with out knowing what they were doing,. i correctly identified all with (as) an both types...)
Coffee 1. While those others may have some coffee as an ingredient, they are no more a "cup of coffee" than a Pina Colada is a glass of pineapple juice.
Toast 4. While 5 & 6 start getting too much charcoal, the first three do not have the crunchy texture that makes it "toast".
Tea isn't as bad for doggies, I like black tea brewed darker than coffee, with a little honey.
Or a mix I found with orange peel, almonds and dark chocolate thrown in for variety :)
Or 'Tea...Earl Grey...hot' but not bigelew's or tetley's
You can't say you don't like Earl Grey tea if that's all you've had, try Twining's...
Or Red Rose, but only in Canada...pity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPWBaNQxVWI
Before the page changes, I'd just like to add "nice backgrounds and detail" the bows are a nice touch
and I agree, if Maxus gets another promotion those shoulder boards are going to start getting in the way ;)
Guess it's a good thing he's about as high as he can get already...I imagine douchey designed that rig
Hrist makes a pretty precise and respectful bow and hand-to-heart 'salute'.
I wouldn't have put it past Feelie to come up with an exaggerated curtsey...
Sort of like an assholian Prime Minister we once had doing a mocking pirrouette behind the Queen's back
Hrist is looking beautiful today...
...and who is hiding (or entering the room?) at the lower right in that last panel??? :o
@a/n: I hope you both are doing fine after that attack - and that nothing was stolen/ordered on your expense...

Do your job or find another one to do
You want to be paid ? do what you're being paid to do.
It wasn't intended to imply that he doesn't see her as a person or something. I've been around people who've undergone trauma or are coming out of medical procedures, and it's often safer to ask for a general status update from someone who isn't potentially... wibbly-brained, if that makes sense.
She may have to get used to a boss who doesn't treat her worse than his own excrement. Oh the horror.
Besides,we haven't seen the 'lusty bunny' mode in action yet ;)
and "Creators" correct me if im wrong.!! but Maxus will and has protected Cassains/Androids in place of humans..
an there may be more we just haven't heard of..
I think Maxus sees them as human, just that they're mostly degenerates. That Noctis let them live, does more to speak well of Noctis than anything else. It says that she avoids needless killing where she can.
after telling her it stole the new weapons you ordered for her...
my incident, they went through , W.O.W. authenticator.. and i think you know the rest...
That seems to suggest that while it might be easy to see the decisions she made and actions she took
The question of why she ended up making and taking those decisions and actions needs to be answered...
insider info,, on Cici,, Cici vs any 3 Cassians,,. Cici walks away...
so, Black Angel's are no match for any 2 Cassians...
Hope it isn't too big for the page ;)
It takes a while to bury them, as they don't fit in the front yard !
Alternatively, they can be called "Rose's pet got out again!", but she would probably correct you, and turn off your afterburner ... bad times all around !!
Who know's what's behind him...and the gun's in the front...
He does have a 'shoot' cue though...
"Engine Fire-Left, Engine Fire-Right, APU-Fire...Let me out here, I'll walk"
for coffee I prefer 1
for toast I prefer about 2.5
anyone else ?
One never diminishes the colour G-d Himself gave to the sacred beans by adulterating them with milk !!
If I wanted a milkshake I'd go to Dairy Queen ;)
Unless of course, He causes you, in his mercy, to find a fatfree/sugarfree Hazelnut or Vanilla 'creamer' and turn them into a 4 ;)
There's always the exception to the rule...
It also goes good with milk on it's own, but that's what it was meant for and who does things like that ?
the carton of whipping cream in my fridge says 0gm
but even skim milk has half as much sugar as pop...13gm/cup for skim milk, 26gm/cup for pop(soda)
Some people say "cream has saturated fat and you're going to die"
Other studies say that the type of fat found in dairy actually protects the heart...
The only sure things about studies that you can always find two that say the exact opposite...so pick the one you like :)
Toast: (an coffee sugar) 0 (I hate it but 'keto' diet makes the belly gone)
Toast 4. While 5 & 6 start getting too much charcoal, the first three do not have the crunchy texture that makes it "toast".
.. I don't drink coffee, bad for doggy tummy !
Or a mix I found with orange peel, almonds and dark chocolate thrown in for variety :)
Or 'Tea...Earl Grey...hot' but not bigelew's or tetley's
You can't say you don't like Earl Grey tea if that's all you've had, try Twining's...
Or Red Rose, but only in Canada...pity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPWBaNQxVWI
and I agree, if Maxus gets another promotion those shoulder boards are going to start getting in the way ;)
Guess it's a good thing he's about as high as he can get already...I imagine douchey designed that rig
I wouldn't have put it past Feelie to come up with an exaggerated curtsey...
Sort of like an assholian Prime Minister we once had doing a mocking pirrouette behind the Queen's back
