Tokyo Rose
Samanta acts as the Cassians' chaplain. A thankless job, if ever there was one.

Well, at least the pilot acknowledges the odor...

Well, there is another one...

So, Samantha to make sure Kyle does not die on the way to New Troy...

@alt text: well, she did clean up nicely...

@a/n: does that mean she would preside over the service - if the Ophie-Kyle ship was to succeed? :o
kraznor 2nd Dec 2020, 2:10 AM edit delete reply
And Kyle is still a virgin when they get to new troy
jamie59 2nd Dec 2020, 4:35 AM edit delete reply

Well mister not a virgin want to join the mile high club?
robnot 4th Dec 2020, 11:03 AM edit delete reply
not virgin,, an part of mile high er club.!!
Oldarmourer 2nd Dec 2020, 5:33 AM edit delete reply
yeah, I've had air conditioners get a little funky if they sit unused too long, it should clear up in a day or so ;)

this is why you run a car's air conditioner every once in a while in the winter
SeanR 2nd Dec 2020, 7:42 PM edit delete reply
I'm Pretty sure AC runs regardless. The defroster uses it to dehumidify the air.
megados 2nd Dec 2020, 7:56 PM edit delete reply

Yep, it does. Besides running for A/C, under certain other conditions, the compressor runs both for dehumidification, and to circulate the refrigerant/oil to keep the seals soft. The air box is used year 'round. Heat and defrost, and A/C when it's warm.
Just_IDD 3rd Dec 2020, 12:44 PM edit delete reply
Hmm, I hardly ever use the AC in the summer and in the winter the drain plug likely freezes over. I've actually found that if you crack the driver side window and the rear passenger window and put the heat on the floor only let you stay comfortably warm in the front seats and the windshield never gets warm enough to melt snow falling on it. This eliminates ice buildup on the blades unless it's an actual ice storm.
Oldarmourer 2nd Dec 2020, 5:30 AM edit delete reply
Samanta looks good, told you it'd buff out just fine ;)
DLKmusic 2nd Dec 2020, 11:33 AM edit delete reply

Samanta Looks... "Good"??

I now understand why she was quoting Dante specifically, She looks like one of the illustrations of the tormentors!

Appropriate for a Cassian, but sadly ironic, as she is the most outwardly empathic Cassian towards humans that we've seen so far.
megados 2nd Dec 2020, 5:49 AM edit delete reply

Re: Alt text, Yes I remember the scene well! After that, there were rumors that she survived. Nice to see ya, Samanta!

Re: A/N, Yes I could imagine, considering some of them. (Nice to see you out and about, @Rose!)

I still say someone has some cheese stashed somewhere! XD

Excellent! Thank you, mjkj!

I feel like Kyle would be ephasizing at some point in this conversation that he is from New Sparta not New Troy.
Gilrandir 2nd Dec 2020, 10:29 AM edit delete reply
So, ... in this page the seat behind Ophelia appears empty and we see Ophelia entering from “stage right”. But now, on this page, Ophelia affects being surprised to note Samantha popping up (‘Kilroy-fashion’) behind her. Leaving aside for the moment the question of a Cassian being surprised because they didn’t scope out the entire cabin before settling down, would Ophelia’s choice of ‘ice-breaker’ have been any different if she knew Samantha was listening?
DLKmusic 2nd Dec 2020, 11:39 AM edit delete reply

I honestly doubt it.
megados 2nd Dec 2020, 11:47 AM edit delete reply

I have to agree. Ophelia doesn't seem to have too many filters.
SeanR 2nd Dec 2020, 7:46 PM edit delete reply
I'm certain she has several filters.
There's the one to highlight blood trails by changing all the colors around.
There's the one to drop a "hand-drawn" set of devils horns and a goatee over her vision, that she used whenever she had to look at her former master, Lord the Tenth.
There's the puppy dog ears and nose one that came pre-installed with her body, as well as the party hat one...
Loads of filters.

I am just imagining how it would have gone had she been more environmentally aware ...

OPHELIA: "Hi, Samantha. That must be your escort to New Troy, right? How are you doing?"
SAMANTHA: "Hello, Ophelia. I am doing much better, thank you. And yes, that is him. Master Kyle Lamar."
OPHELIA: "Great. Hello, cobber. Hey, Samantha? Is he still a virgin?"
SAMANTHA: <facepalms>

ROFL, @Gilrandir.
DLKmusic 2nd Dec 2020, 12:22 PM edit delete reply

I would like to point out that for all you Kyle haters, this conversation is probably the worst thing you could ever do to him!
oldastronomer 2nd Dec 2020, 1:53 PM edit delete reply
Interesting that Kyle HAS a minder!
I deduce that he exited the Aeneas complex into the welcoming arms of Maxus, who promptly offered him the permanent job of consultant AI specialist - after all, he is now the world's no 1 (after Tokyo Rose) at this. Kyle pretty much had to go home for a bit, so he chose to do so via New Troy, (visiting Lynn!), saving a shuttle trip by sharing a ride with Ophelia. Having Samanta along boosts the Cassian presence in New Troy to 3, so Noctis has the beginnings of a support staff.
I expect that Ada and Samanta may have a lot of notes to compare on the theological side.
As always, very interesting at all levels! Thank you!!!!
Gilrandir 6th Dec 2020, 1:51 PM edit delete reply
Just an amplification on the why of Kyle having a minder. Not that I am claiming anything like this has any actual basis in the narrative, as that is the purview of the creatrices -- but it appeals to me, so I offer it here.

Maxus has a nicety of honor that I really like. And it is really rare, so the ramifications and consequences of things that would seem trivial or irrelevant to others really matter to him. I am sure that, in general, he would not wish for Kyle to come to harm anyway. Maxus is a decent and kindly-intentioned fellow. But! Nova Roma essentially commandeered Kyle's Dart for the purpose of saving the life of the Imperatrix-apparent of Nova Roma. This means that Nova Roma owes Kyle Lamar a debt until the Dart is reunited with its owner in no worse condition than before, or the equivalent repayment is accepted. And not an inconsequential debt. And, to those who care about such things, it is very bad form to allow someone to die while you are still in their debt. Maxus does not hold with 'bad form'. It professionally offends him. Therefore, Mr. Lamar will not die while the debt remains unpaid if the Regent of Nova Roma has anything to say about it.

Samanta likes playing peek-a-boo in that second panel there. XD
Oldarmourer 2nd Dec 2020, 7:06 PM edit delete reply
The fun part is when he gets to New troy and goes looking for his ship.
megados 2nd Dec 2020, 7:21 PM edit delete reply

And again when he finds it.
Oldarmourer 5th Dec 2020, 8:31 PM edit delete reply
It'll buff out...
DLKmusic 6th Dec 2020, 1:11 PM edit delete reply

who knows, he may even like the "Flame" job!
SeanR 2nd Dec 2020, 8:23 PM edit delete reply
So others don't have to do an archive dive to find it.
Just_IDD 3rd Dec 2020, 12:55 PM edit delete reply
Lynn hinted at a trip that was orbital with Kyle when discussing the ships' capabilities. While the cockpit is cramped under surface conditions, I'm sure two energetic teenagers can figure something out when the volume to play in doubles. Search for "motoring in a mini" at least that is what I remember it being called for a similarly sized space.
Sheela 6th Dec 2020, 10:57 AM edit delete reply

Uhm .. why haven't they killed Kyle yet ? 🥺
DLKmusic 6th Dec 2020, 1:13 PM edit delete reply

but sheela, this is ever so much worse!
Sheela 6th Dec 2020, 9:25 PM edit delete reply

For us, yes, not for Kyle !

I yam a bit surprised to hear Ophelia disparaging VR sex. After all, from her POV, when all her physical sensations come to her via digital inputs that are recordable and reproducible, isn't VR completely indistinguishable from reality?

So, obviously, she's saying this specifically to twit somebody. Probably Samanta, but possibly Kyle as well.
SeanR 7th Dec 2020, 7:56 AM edit delete reply
Androids who have high-generation bodies are the only ones to enjoy things with the fidelity approaching that of human. This may be more along the lines of "wait, you have a Ferrari, and you only use it to grab groceries? In a city where the top speed is 45 and the lights are all synchronized? There's a wide open highway Right There. What is WRONG with you?"
Wait. You have a human body, with all its rich inherent sensorium, and you're wasting your time in VR? I bet you eat bland food, too.
megados 7th Dec 2020, 11:11 AM edit delete reply

An example of that kind of irony was used in a storyline in ST Voyager, when Tom Paris used the holodeck to recreate a vintage theater to watch movies with 3D glasses.
