Happy New Year, Cent! (No need to hide)

I made it through 2020 and all I got was this stupid T-shirt!

C'mon Noctis, it won't be so bad! :) Looking good, Ladies! *HUGS!*

I made it through 2020, and I didn't even get a T-shirt.
stormbringer77 1st Jan 2021, 11:08 PM edit delete reply

I got another year of back, hips and knee pains, but I did get a few T-Shirts that were cool. My favorite T-Shirt says, "You put $3000 of percussion equipment into a $1000 car, drive 200 miles and make $50," The other one is "DON'T PICK A FIGHT WITH A DRUMMER,WE HIT THINGS FOR PLEASURE.".

Given her experience with that her last, temporary body, I wonder what prompted Ophelia to where that outfit?

<< feels stupid now
Oldarmourer 1st Jan 2021, 10:23 AM edit delete reply
She looks good with some bodyfill covering the lines in her skin for a formal outing :)
Some Ed 1st Jan 2021, 2:08 PM edit delete reply
... one of those "intrusive subroutines" she was talking about could do it.

Quite likely.

Happy New Year.
Here's to 2021 being a mostly harmless and somewhat normally sane year.
Peeks into my crystal ball. (Yes, I actually have one)
OMG! It's worse than 2020! We're all going to....

Oh sorry, it was just some dust.
StellarJay 2nd Jan 2021, 12:42 AM edit delete reply

I still think that 2021 is going to be an odd year.

Yes, Happy New Year, with the most fervent best wishes for it! And good luck with that, Noctis. Uni-swine Princess Cloaca has invited you both to her New Year's bash, which has already taken over all of the Mall. She isn't going to take "no" for an answer. She will be along shortly to whisk you both there on a cloud of rainbow flatulence (smells like marshmallow and roses, btw)!

Ophelia: Wow! Look at all the Sheilas kissing!

Princess Cloaca: *smug* I covered the entire ceiling in sprigs of pink mistletoe. At the start of December!

Happy 'random point chosen to time the orbital progression of the planet from' :)

Feels the same but don't provoke it, 2020 might have just been the workup to 2021 and beyond...
Some Ed 1st Jan 2021, 2:22 PM edit delete reply
For what it's worth, it was actually an arbitrarily chosen point in the orbital progression, but there was this issue with the calendar not quite matching up with the actual orbital progression. Several times somebody noticed it and tried to correct it. But, unfortunately, by the last time someone made one of those corrections, they no longer even understood what the arbitrarily chosen point was, and so they missed.

That said, it's not like it matters. This random chosen point works just as well as the arbitrarily chosen point for the vast majority of intents and purposes.

That said, every year is the workup to the next year. There's no reset at the end of each year. It's up to each of us to strive to do better with the new year than we did with the old. Unfortunately, we rarely accomplish that.

I feel like most of the time, it's because people are working at cross purposes. I wanted a list, but thanks to Deus's bubble chart on Grrl Power 394, it all devolves down to two: Successful greedy people striving to increase their already excessive holdings to still more excessive levels, and unsuccessful greedy people trying to get/increase their holdings. Those are only really separated to be able to point out that the bigger problem is the first one.

It was "the point of Ares" for the Romans, right? Which is the sidereal year, that stays at the same point against the stars regardless of the Earth's precession. They got unhappy with it when the tropical year (which stays the same against the seasons regardless of how the stars wobble in the sky) drifted out of synch, so Julian fixed an entirely different problem by introducing leap years. Except his leap years drifted out of synch with the tropical year by about 3/4 of a day per century and eventually they decided it would be easier to just move the start of the year from March to January rather than sort it all out.

It only got sillier from there.
Morituri 2nd Jan 2021, 10:53 AM edit delete reply
Just for what it's worth, the "point of ares" - which was of course the time when earth's orbit lined up with the first star in the constellation of Ares - got redefined as wherever the stars are at the time of the Vernal equinox.

As the sidereal and tropical calendars have drifted further out of alignment, the point of Ares went through all of Ares, and is now halfway through Pisces. But nobody is calling it the point of Pisces.

For me, New Years Day is a few weeks in the future, if you know what I mean and I'm certain that several of you do.
Oldarmourer 1st Jan 2021, 9:25 PM edit delete reply
There are so many 'new year' dates, to choose from...everyone gets one !!
Heck, depending on who you listen to, Jews get up to FOUR !! Oy, such a HANGOVER, it never stops !!
I was going to list them all but I don't think there's enough space in this post ;)
Everyone enjoy whatever day you use, however it was chosen.
I'm tempted to go with the day after the winter solstice, just because it starts to get brighter...
But there are arguments to be made for both solstices, and both equinoxes for that matter...
Still, it's a long way before Rosh Hashanah and you need to get the the apple harvest in before then ;)
Here's hoping this one won't be worse than the last one...but I hesitate to say that out loud
2021 might take it as a challenge...

. . . "but I hesitate to say that out loud

No. Don't issue a challenge. Remember the adage: There's nothing so bad that you can't make it worse!

Living in household with two unconnected new-years (one Solar and one Lunar) in active use can be a bit disorienting. Since neither system quite matches astronomical reality (thus our leap years and leap seconds and their occasional 13 month year) the mismatch varies from a bit over a week to more than two months.
Oldarmourer 2nd Jan 2021, 10:54 AM edit delete reply
Co-incidentally enough, I just noticed that today, Jan 2nd, Earth is at perihelion, the closest to the sun we get this year.
I just had the dog out, you wouldn't know it...have I mentioned I hate winter lately ?
Maybe perihelion would be a good place to start a year from ? or apehelion ? or the third Tuesday in May ?

As of midnight (my time) and well past 0000Z which is what TopWeb seems to use...
DC is in 3rd place at the end of the first day of the year...let's try and keep it that way all year.
Remember, vote early and vote often !!

Seeing two of my favourite Cassians dressed for a night out, well one of them, begs the question...

Do Androids party like 'people' ?
Do they appreciate a fine wine or would they prefer 'Thunderbird' for it's 'higher level of reactants' ?

I can almost hear the conversation...

Noctis: You are dressed as if you wish to attract attention
Feelie: Bloody Oath !! Ain't no flies on you, is there ? Y'think ditchin' th' knickers might be a bit o' th' dog's balls ?
Noctis: It does seem to be less than the usual diplomatic attire
Feelie: Ain't like I got me Tassie map out fer the Gyno, I ain't got rotten yet...
Noctis: Still, there is a certain level of decorum expected of Military Attaches
Feelie: Most of those are bodgy buggers t'start with, makes y'wonder how they got their jobs...
'n more importantly, how they keeps 'em
Noctis: You are a representative of Nova Roma and are expected to act like one
Feelie: I c'd burn a few hospitals if yer like ?
Here's the drum, chum, I'm gonna have a few long ones, mebbe crack onta summun 'n 'ave a quick root inna dunny
You can drink with the flies if'n yer wants, I'll rage on 'til dawn
Noctis: That voice module really needs to be tended to
Feelie: Only thing needs tendin' to is me joot chute, let's get crackin' or we'll miss the bashup
megados 3rd Jan 2021, 10:03 AM edit delete reply

The conversation, at least to me, is pretty spot-on! XD (Tokyo Rose would be a better judge)

Do they party like people? In DC they are people, although not always treated that way. Maybe party like humans? The answer to that is in your own dialogue here: Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. Like humans, it seems, some do and some don't.

Noctis runs on anti-fun particles, Feelie likes that because she gets them out of the way...
That way she can grab all the leftover fun particles for herself ;)
megados 3rd Jan 2021, 4:46 PM edit delete reply

But that's the same thing: Each android has their own preferred balance of fun to anti-fun particles. ;)

Happy New Year. Lets us hope things are at least marginally better during this calendar year.

2021 would struggle to be worse than 2020, but I am sure it is up to the challenge so let's not provoke it ;-)
