...poor Ophie...

I hope she can share the new intel...

Welcome back, Cent - I hope you are feeling better?

Well, we're about to find out if anyone recognizes these jokers.

My bet is yes. They are some version of a Von Neumann solution, corrupted, I would say, and recently awoken.
Gilrandir 31st Mar 2021, 2:06 AM edit delete reply
Regarding inset #2 ... did Ophelia ever actually see one of the harvesters carrying luggage? I don’t recall anything even suggesting that as a possibility.

A nicely executed page, though. Thank you.
megados 31st Mar 2021, 5:20 AM edit delete reply

I think there was one scene where one was carrying *something*, if I remember correctly. If I get time later on, I'll try to look.

*edit: Found it: Page 1610

There was indeed much speculation and guesswork over the nature of 'Checkov's Valise' at the time ;)
megados 31st Mar 2021, 5:18 AM edit delete reply

Great page! Well done! I was wondering how you were going to do this.

Re: Alt text, No worries, I have plenty of coffee! :D
Centcomm 31st Mar 2021, 10:29 AM edit delete reply

thanks it was definitely on the difficult side..

Code Roaches! I will be using that little gem.
Oldarmourer 31st Mar 2021, 6:29 AM edit delete reply

Does that mean they killed Lusty Bunny ? The rabbit died ? poor little thing :(

Helpful Hint:
Do NOT do a search for 'lusty bunny' with 'safe search' disabled...some things can't be unseen.

This is one of the more SFW ones...pity it never turned into a running gag except in the comments ;)

probably SFW but...maybe too big for the page

The site owner apparently didn't like people looking at their stuff. 403 Forbidden.
Centcomm 31st Mar 2021, 10:28 AM edit delete reply

I saw that. :D i was wondering what it was...
sigpig 31st Mar 2021, 11:20 AM edit delete reply

Picture an anime Jessica Rabbit, lounging on the floor in a black PVC "Playboy Bunny" uniform with fishnets and black patent pumps.
megados 31st Mar 2021, 11:26 AM edit delete reply

You can look at it; the site doesn't seem to like outside hot links. Just "copy link location" and paste it into a new tab. :D
Oldarmourer 31st Mar 2021, 8:33 PM edit delete reply
Or take 'one for the team' like I did and do a search for 'lusty bunny' with safe search turned off ;)
I needed coffee after that

EGS has a reference to a fictional anime "Lusty Bunny Bounty Show" (bounty hunter), with characters bemoaning its cancellation at different points in the story line. It is probably not going to come up in any searches though because it isn't transcribed.

Just to be clear, regardless of how appropriate you might think it is, I'm not going to drink something I'm allergic to on your advice.

As far as this page is concerned... confusing? I've been keeping a dream journal for 40 years. This is relatively straightforward compared to some of the stuff in my dream journal. It has a consistent flow and a single theme. It seems to only have one language.
Tokyo Rose 31st Mar 2021, 10:24 PM edit delete reply

At least you have the good sense to NOT do something that you know to be unwise or harmful to you just because some rando fuck on the internet suggested it. ;)

First time I've heard of a coffee allergy. I mean, I KNOW that people can have allergic reactions to virtually anything, but I just hadn't run across anyone with that specific reaction. Mister Black is sobbing quietly behind me right now.
Oldarmourer 1st Apr 2021, 9:21 AM edit delete reply
That would in all likelihood be a fatal allergy...
I don't think I could go on if I ended up allergic to wakeup bean juice, and nobody around me could either ;)
Some Ed 7th Apr 2021, 8:01 AM edit delete reply
Well, there's a lot more sources of caffeine than coffee. That said, caffeine does not *give* you energy. It borrows energy from future you. If you're needing to use it all the time, you're past the point where it's really helping you.

Back in the day, I mostly drank soda, and was continually either on edge or crashing. I actually didn't think that the caffeine was doing anything for me, as I'd get the same kick from 7up or OJ that I would from something caffeinated.

But then, one day, I realized I was feeling anxious and hyper, and took a look at what I was drinking, and realized I was consuming a ridiculous amount of sugar without thinking about it. I tried switching to drinking water as much as feasible, and handling my crashes with diet, where I would more consciously recognize the glycemic index I was consuming. Initially, that didn't work very well, so I tried to bridge into it, by diluting my sugary beverages instead, starting with a mix that was mostly sugary beverage and slowly working to one that was mostly water.

Some years after I got to the point where I was mostly drinking unadulterated water, someone recommended some caffeinated mints to help me with a particularly early event where I'd need to stay focused. I didn't think they'd help, but I also didn't think they'd hurt, and it was just easier to humor her. But they did, in fact, make a clear difference.

I felt the down side the next day, but not taking additional caffeine at that time allowed me to get back to normal the following day.
Some Ed 5th Apr 2021, 8:19 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, I've not run into anyone else with it, either.

Closest I'm aware of is my aunt is allergic to chocolate. But that's standard enough to be on the standard allergy tests. Coffee is not.

I think Feelie just realized that the Gold Monsters are looking for fleshies, and the two scavvies that rescued her are uncomfortably near where they were last seen. Now she's worried about them.

*sigh* No chance they missed maybe one little Pauline code-roach? No, bad Deanatay!
Oldarmourer 31st Mar 2021, 8:36 PM edit delete reply
They did have to stop early and cockroaches are said to be able to survive a nuclear war ;)
Maybe she saved some of the subroutines into a 'personal' folder for 'later' marked 'homework' maybe ?

Oldarmourer 1st Apr 2021, 9:31 AM edit delete reply

Looks like topweb's back to it's foolishness, and worse than ever....if 65 people are on Patreon and only 27 voted, there's something wrong...

You could almost think something happened to alienate most of the readership, except Patreon readership seems to have increased a little and it's happened to a dozen other comics too, all of which I vote for as well because they're better than the ones at the top I don't vote for, even Grrl Power is down lower than I've ever seen it and today's an update day for it with almost 150 posts in the comments section already...

It's not right and I'll let a great Canadian icon sum it up...

it's just not right...
megados 1st Apr 2021, 6:49 PM edit delete reply

TWC is totally hosed. I have no idea what's going on there. The whole top 100 is completely bonkers.
Oldarmourer 1st Apr 2021, 7:33 PM edit delete reply
I suspect either someone has figured out a way to put in 'mass votes' and is making money off it or topweb itself is ranking by ads clicked as much as votes cast.
robnot 4th Apr 2021, 10:22 AM edit delete reply
as was explained to Centcomm.
twc sold out.. your ranking is based on how much ads you buy.. (for the top ten.) i asked how to boost my rating for " my new comic " (not) .. i was told "you are guaranteed ranking with ad's."
and it looks like they (twc) ignore bots IF you have ad's..
also ,, you have to be signed in.! they don't count 'guest' votes.. (or at least none of mine counted..)
Oldarmourer 4th Apr 2021, 12:53 PM edit delete reply
My 'guest' votes seem to count, I checked right after putting them in.
How long they stay before being deleted is anyone's guess.
Kind of sucks when a site purporting to give exposure to webcomics has to screw them over
But I suppose hosting that sort of site costs money and as always "if you're not paying for it, then YOU'RE the product"
Oldarmourer 4th Apr 2021, 5:42 PM edit delete reply
Is it doing DC or any of the others any good to keep voting there ?
megados 4th Apr 2021, 6:55 PM edit delete reply

I can only speak for myself. I keep voting as before. I vote for the comics that deserve recognition, regardless of what TWC does.
Oldarmourer 5th Apr 2021, 6:16 AM edit delete reply
Pretty much what I ws thinking, a half hour of my time time I wasn't using for anything anyway isn't that much.
I just hope people can look past the first page, or realize that the 'top ten' isn't the best comics, just the top ten money makers for the site.
There are some pretty good ones languishing at the bottom that I know I'm the only one voting for because their vote total is only the number of votes I've put in :(

robnot 5th Apr 2021, 7:38 AM edit delete reply
with voting , use to be a hour ,, now ten min..
now only voting on 3 regularly , an 4 other wen update..
Oldarmourer 6th Apr 2021, 10:45 AM edit delete reply
I usually vote for about 100 now :)
I trimmed the list and I'm going to trim it some more
Especially since a few decided to put half the content on Patreon-only
I simply can't afford to pay every comic I read and more and more are going that way.
gmg2dave 1st Apr 2021, 9:40 AM edit delete reply

ok, so they are harvesting "strong flesh" but what puzzles me is that, well, they don't tend to leave much of anything behind to harvest. I mean the pic of Charlie sure looks like he's drifting vapor after getting hit by whatever weapon that thing is using. So, color me confused?

RE: Text; coincidentally I had just gotten a fresh cup before checking for updates, all good!
robnot 4th Apr 2021, 10:33 AM edit delete reply
harvesting ,, when in a fire fight, you drop the bad guy fast and hard.! you Don't worry about niceties till after they are down..
THIS is why the US. military has so many problems.!! IE: you can NOT defend till they have proven intent ,, shot you (not at you.!) or thrown the grenade..
Oldarmourer 4th Apr 2021, 12:57 PM edit delete reply
This why the lawyers will be the first ones against the wall..along with the politicians.
Sending people into harm's way then prosecuting them for defending themselves against the dangers you put them in and won't face yourselves isn't the sort of thing that buys you loyalty.
A Military exists to kill people and break their stuff to stop them from being a threat to your country.
They aren't 'peacekeepers' 'rescue rangers' or boy scouts, they can do all of those things to a degree and do, but it isn't their primary function, no matter how much soyboys and liebrals want them to be.
Morituri 6th Apr 2021, 10:30 PM edit delete reply
The police are (supposed to be) peacekeepers and law enforcers. Military forces are required to operate outside of peace and in places where law may be ambiguous or inoperative. They are (supposed to) rapidly restore the peace that police are supposed to keep.

In reality, police aren't always that effective at peacekeeping (thank you Derek Chauvin, long may you rot) and military aren't always all that effective at restoring peace (especially at places like Abu Ghraib). But that's the ideal.

In recognition of their distinct and non-overlapping duties and preparation, the US passed something called Posse Comitatus which says you can't substitute one for the other. But then we had the Seattle protests and somebody got brain-addled about that, too.

We have these ideals, see. But we can't always live up to them.

You know that Floyd was saying that he could not breath _in the ambulance_?

Yeah, I did not either until the lawsuit came out regarding the information that was left out of the autopsy report. That was about eight months later.

Also, not well known, but the department actually trained their officers use that move favored by WWE rejects.

What a mess, but officer Chauvin looks much, much better with those bits of info...
Oldarmourer 7th Apr 2021, 3:55 AM edit delete reply
It's a recognized control technique I've been trained in it have used it myself on quite a few occasions.
If you look carefully, you'll see his 'knee' is not on the neck, it's at the juncture of the neck and the shoulder and it's his shin that's keeping him in place by not letting him get the leverage to raise his head.
You'll also notice the unbroken crease in his trousers, which means there is no pressure whatsoever, other than that which the media placed in people's heads who aren't trained or qualified to make that discernation. The leg isn't even touching his neck but now it's turned into a case of 'would we risk pre-planned riots rather than look at the real facts?' and it doesn't really matter, whatever the outcome is those riots are going to go aheead, they've already been paid for.
Guest 13th Apr 2021, 8:53 AM edit delete reply
Floyd was saying he couldn't breathe literally before the police touched him.

He ODed on fentanyl, and the cause of death for fentanyl OD is generally suffocation... the lungs fill with fluid.

His fentanyl levels were solidly in the "yep, people die here" range, there was no trauma to his neck or throat (as testified to by the prosecution witness on that point!), and he was complaining that the couldn't breath for 5+ minutes while being restrained, which is biologically impossible if you are being choked.

He died of a drug OD. Chauvin is being railroaded ridiculously.
megados 13th Apr 2021, 9:13 AM edit delete reply

That must be why all the expert testimony, so far, says he died of asphyxia. Most every one pointed out that drug O/D was unlikely here. It couldn't have been that Chauvin stayed on top of him for more than 8 minutes; long after he stopped moving, after he stopped breathing, and failed to render aid. Gimme a break. :/
Demarquis 16th Apr 2021, 3:47 PM edit delete reply
IMHO, one can't watch that video and come to any other conclusions than that Chauvin committed voluntary manslaughter. Legally, it doesn't actually matter when Floyd died, as long as it was the direct result of Chauvin's actions. Does anyone really believe that if Chauvin hadn't been there or hadn't touched Floyd, Floyd would have collapsed and died anyway? Please.
Oldarmourer 7th Apr 2021, 3:58 AM edit delete reply
Police investigate and solve crimes.
If someone breaks into your house and isn't satisfied with what they can grab and decide to take it out on you, then the police will carefully photograph your body and gather evidence to try and apprehend your killer, but they will NOT be there to save you while you're being attacked and you'll still be dead.
