Noctis is present, it would be expected that anything of note would be reported to Maximus. I actually would expect that Maximus would be interested in how she answers this question.
For me: "Is there any information which you feel is pertinent to the forth coming discussion about which I don't have knowledge and should?
There isn't a cut-and-dried answer to that. It would depend on context and circumstances. Her core purpose is to protect New Rome, and the throne (no matter who is seated there).
In this case, until Acantha's majority that is Reagent Maximus Valouris. Noctis wont fail to protect Princess Acantha, but a reagent acts as a proxy. Even if Acantha is present he is still the leader.
It is a literary trope that Reagents usurp the mionr quite often, but reagecy is a relativly rare state in the real world.
Oooh! Oooh! I've got one! Acantha's probably too polite to ask, but I'm sure it's going through her mind:
About that whole "destined to fail" thing, the easiest way for Centcomm to know that is if she's got them contacting her (through some intermediaries who don't know who they're working for) about the bounty before they take their shots. That way Cent is forewarned and knows who to keep an eye on.
As a bonus, Acantha's given a sober warning about possible hostile factions back home, and motivated to stay in sight where Cent can protect her rather than getting too adventurous in the city. As a further bonus, the scary Cassian is almost certain to stay in sight and cooperate, even if suspicious, in anything that can be pitched as contributing to Acantha's security.
So did somebody in Nova Roma come up with this bounty in an honest attempt to get Acantha dead, or was it just you trying to scare her, control her, and instill an appreciation of cooperation in the cause of mutual defense?
Because I'm naturally a suspicious bastard, that's why.
Naw, CentComm is less likely to be a sneaky pants, and more likely to be a "Hammer it in the face!" kinda gal. "Destined to fail" just means that Centcomm has a lot of resources to protect Acantha.
Flavor text from the “Orbital Bombardment” card of the BattleTech CCG: “If brute force isn’t the solution to your problem, you aren’t using enough of it.”
Or another one of ours (got the T-shirt)
"There are very few personal problems which can't be solved by the application of a precise amount of High Explosives"
Imperiatrix's Consort: IF i know Marcus.. she would be a great .. (insert wherever here.) But he WON'T.! first she is under age .! big no no for him.! second, he IS military,. he won't mess that up for a 'foreign power'.. and finally he knows Dolly,.! so he knows he would have to get thru "Noctis" to do any thing,, so not worth the 'pay off.!'
Depends, Nova Roma is close to where I live and the age of consent here starts at 14, Princesses have been know to be married off much younger, as young as 7 or so with the 'consummation' coming later...sometimes not by much.
If I remember rightly, Acantha has already met a Cent doll, back in hospital. But given the haze of medication, that memory may have slipped a tidge.
I reckon the bounty is genuine, given the existence of the erstwhile hangers on of Decimus. (deep sigh).
It seems to me that to have the ruling powers of New Troy plus their AIS meeting the ruling powers of Nova Roma without their equivalent gives a powerful advantage to New Troy in any negotiations that might occur. Unless Aeneas is not sufficiently capable, or is unable to securely participate, this seems like a meeting to which he should be invited.
The AIS's already met without their equivalent 'ruling powers', Centy didn't do so well with Aeneas that time...
That seems to imply that the AIS's consider the human 'governing bodies' to be, at most, transient.
It kind of speaks to apparent differences between New Rome and New Troy. The "ruling class" in New Troy doesn't seem to have a lot of hands-on activity, and leaves much of the ruling to CentComm and the military hierarchy.
But IS there a "ruling class" in New Troy? I honestly can't remember. I mean, Centy is only "ruled" by the Taylor Dynasty, but it -seems- to be a symbiotic relationship.
I avoided the term 'ruling class' in favor of 'ruling powers' advisedly. In any hierarchical organization there are decision-makers. The decision makers for New Troy and Nova Roma appear to be having a meeting. 'Class' seems to denote more about how you got to be a decision maker, rather than the bare fact of whether you are or are not one.
The AIS meeting earlier was a different constituency for a different purpose. They were met to discuss CentComm/Tokyo Rose/Aeneas issues, not New Troy/Nova Roma issues. It just seems like, for discussions of the second type, if CentComm has a seat at the table, so should Aeneas. Or else this could just be a preliminary discussion and introduction type of meeting from which no substantive agreements are expected. But those are just my opinions, of course.
This relates to my concerns about integrating Aeneas back into New Rome's power structure. They've functioned for two generations without him, so he's not considered when their "ruling parties" gather. I'm wondering if he'll 'crash' the meeting? There's still a lot of work to be done in figuring out his place.
Cent... The Future is not set and no certainties exist. Even low-probability events have stubborn ways of popping up in most inconvenient of fashions. And as IRA once noted to Margaret Thatcher after Brighton Bombing: "Today we were unlucky, but remember we only have to be lucky once. You will have to be lucky always."
Also, as mentioned, Aeneas is someone who very much needs to participate these negotiations.
IRA disbanded only after the Good Friday Agreement and God willing peace will prevail despite Brexit shenanigans by various parties. No side won.
But the point remains: There is no absolute security and anyone claiming thus has taken first step towards overlooking something in overconfidence. Cent's security measures are tight and comprehensive, that's not in question, but they are not absolute. Nothing is.
As I recall, Samanta was also to meet with Noctis before returning to New Rome. Is is possible that she will attend this conference?
Echoing some of the sentiments by others, Aeneas should either be in direct attendance by Holo, or at least be observing the meeting. It may also be possible, that he might be the representative of Regent Maxus that is being described. Two birds, one stone.
I think the question is mostly "what is Aeneas' position in New Rome" rather than "How does New Troy like him?". The only person who has ever even spoken with Aeneas is Acantha, and unless that has changed, I don't think New Rome would actually want him to be making decisions for them.
Think of it as having your long-lost father (that you don't think much about) suddenly coming in the family meeting to make decisions for you...
I thought Maxus was around for a very brief interaction with Aeneas... but as that was prior to the repair, would not have made Maxus be more interested in having the New Rome AIS present for this.
not like me.. i don't use belts, to keep my pants up.!
i carry a utility belt,. there are at least 4 items on it,. more if im doing some thing out side my daily routine..
What does a single credit purchase? A loaf of plain bread? A half-dozen eggs? A gourmet five-course dinner for four?
If it's the first, then if I were Acantha, then I would be more than a little insulted. After all, that bounty would be (assuming the Nova Roma population) about one loaf of plain bread per citizen.
If the latter, then we're talking more serious money; as the cost of that dinner is an order of magnitude more expensive than a loaf of plain white bread.
6400.. same page panel 4,, since i was just there..
Comic 686 - Princess Of Swords .
10 mill would allow you to buy 1,562.5 dolls before tax...
so,, when i was working, buying a doll would take 6 months,, whereas the 10 mill (without other bills) would take 135 years
I must admit, when I first read this, I REALLY felt uncomfortable about the power imbalance that is coming into the room. After reading the comments, and some sleep, I'm thinking, "This is just Cent being Cent".
Specifically, Centcomm functions basically as a pro-social psychopath. She's a SuperGenius, knows that her plans are the best, and cannot imagine why anyone else would object to just letting her do her thing. There's no "ganging up", there's just "only bringing in the relevant parties."
<sigh>
I'm starting to hope that Centcomm eventually gets a MUCH stronger push-back than she got from the family over some issue.
I don't think Cent is a "Psychopath" if you consider it she is more of a "Sociopath".
A Psychopath enjoys what they are doing. A Sociopath, just doesn't care. Where a Psychopath enjoys killing and torturing and Sociopath doesn't feel constrained one way or the other from either.
I'm paraphrasing from a book I read many years ago, so I hope I've got it right but, "A Psychopath likes, hurting people and taking lives, they get a rush from the power they have over others. A Sociopath just doesn't care as long as they get what they want. They get no pleasure and feel no restraint on their actions. Only their goals.
Either would use whatever means they feel like, however the Psychopath, enjoys it, and may go far beyond what is necessary to achieve their goals. Whereas the Sociopath, will do only what is necessary.
Get the Carolina Reaper. Unless you are a professional at eating different foods, you might be able to make it past 2 spoons,3 if you've tried planning ahead not knowing how powerful it is.
Not a big fan of hot peppers, they give me horrible gas and I'd far rather have taste than just burn.
I don't care for chili much at all but I do like a good curry or some Thai or Indonesian or other Asian 'hot' dishes; even if they all have hot peppers in them, it's the other spices and ingredients that make the difference, except coconut, fuck coconut in the heart ;)
Started reading DC pretty much started then lost the link for quite awhile before finding it again.
Finally started commenting a few years ago...sorry about that ;)
Funny thing is I read Staff and Sword not realizing it was by the same artists and still think it's worth reviving.
at times i swear you are ghosting me...
found out about comic on May/June 2015, at the con.. started reading on 09/June/2015,, first official comment on 13/Nov/2016,, (had a few guest comments.)..
For me, I got lured in here by Catsservant .. the sneaky bastard.
There I was, reading the comments on one of View's comics, and boom, Catsservant linked Datachasers, and I had to do 819 pages of archive binging.
Actually, it was before the remake of the early pages, so it was probably more like a thousand pages back then.
I remember reading Luna Star first, but I don't know if DC was in extant at that time. I know I didn't post for a long time.
I'm happy that I can continue to post without an account. I'm tired of giving credentials to multiple sites that don't use oauth and then later get breached because they decided to roll their own security without a concept of how bad an idea that is.
For the longest time I thought you had to open an account to comment here then I used the 'guest' for a while until I figured out you could change the name, and finally did make a CF account with a disposable e-mail address. I don't mind that so much, I can make a new hotmail account in a minute or so, it's the ones that want additional information that I refuse to use.
Can't remember anyone complaining when life conspires to hold a page up, and I don't expect to.
You're all kind enough to share your talents with us for free, we should be gracious in acceptance.
On the other hand, if it's your hand again please do something about it, you're like a @#$%^!! voodoo doll !!
Mine starting giving me grief the other day for no apparent reason so I'm blaming yours ;)
Get rested and well, we'll wait.
Try this one then, it's a little different with three characters all getting ten pages each before switching to the next and getting their stories a little closer to converging each time.
I think this is a reasonable consideration.
Diplomatics, CentComm has them. 😁

Alt. Text: Snark is okay. Until you wake up together in the morning, after finding the snark became a boojum.
Is Marcus destined to be the next 'Imperiatrix's Consort' ? We just lost ours up here :(
I mean I really don't, but I couldn't pass up on leaving the question (or well enough) alone.
Acantha sure is suited for that job...
...maybe they will address Ophie's "dreams", too?
@alt text: lol, I guess they are...

Is the change in CC's font in the last panel a boo-boo, or some kind of psychological mirroring trick?
