I have a feeling that one of them would enter the simulation to recall them. I suspect whoever did that would be shot and accused of being one of the pirates.
We were shown that TeeDee and Ada live inside one of the Sectors of New Troy, and that tends to be a highly industrialized area, not a rugged and remote landscape. They could be at a remote resort, rather than using VR gear in the comfort of their own home, but wouldn’t that then be a true vacation, rather that a “vr-cation”? And snow-covered mountainsides seem a poor fit for a New Troy cityscape.
Well, not to sound flippant, but why not? They're heading to a VR facility that could be anywhere. If it's a military, or special services facility, it might be logical to locate it outside the city population centers, no? It also occurs to me, that what we're seeing isn't anything but a building they're passing along the way, having nothing to do with either location, since their craft doesn't appear to be landing, but ascending, making me think this could be a hub where they picked up their craft. Possibly none of the above. I dunno.
As I said: Marcus seemed to make a special point of using the term "vr-cation", instead of "vacation". To me that implies that any significant travel involved is virtual only. If I stay at home or go down the street to the local VR parlor and log into a video game, it's a LAN party (or vr-cation if I am taking a few days off work for a multi-day virtual event). If I pack up and go to a resort like Vegas or Aspen -- even if my planned activities include using VR parlors at the resort site -- I still think of that as a "vacation with VR", not a "vr-cation." And that might just be me.
So, if Ada and TeeDee are staying inside the city limits of New Troy and enjoying time off in VR, why are Marcus and Ophelia flying over a rugged snowscape on their way to see them? I am not saying there is anything wrong about it ... just unexpected.
I'm not saying that it's not a valid question. It just seems that one can have a VR experience anywhere; both at home, or at a VR facility elsewhere, and it could be considered a VR-cation, if the participant(s) remain immersed in the experience. I'm only saying, that it may have no bearing on on the source, destination, or path between. My guess is that Centcomm likes to make cool looking scenes, of which this is one, and didn't anticipate this level of scrutiny. :D
“Scrutiny”? Me? Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha! (Lets that pass.)
I am fine with your explanation, if that’s what is happening. Just curious about where Ada and TeeDee have gone on their vacation if it is outside of New Troy proper.
Probably to a secure 'special' VR-resort where there won't be any concers over their brains being picked over while they're ingame. They do have some interesting secrets locked in there, like how a NTSR ship was shot down and what exactly happened in Nova Roma
Well, then try to avoid focusing on the mechanical parts. Remember: You don’t want to be talking to TeeDee, focus on her mechanical knee and then blurt out “What’s a nice joint like you doing in a girl like this?” ^_^
Colorado springs = New Troy.. which means they are in the foot hills mountains.. also CenttCom is in a mountain (or was)..
an finally,, Ute valley is in the north west corner of Colorado springs...
then like Megados sed,,, they might be leaving cheyenne mountain,, an heading to Teedee an Adas...
A VR-cation has to, by definition, be taken in a place where you immerse yourself in a game in luxurious surroundings and pay handsomely for the privilege and the attendant attention.
If you immerse yourself in a game at home, that's just called 'Tuesday'...
I'd imagine for TeeDee there's a big flashing sign on the dashboard..
"WARNING: Laser swords are NOT to be activated with canopy closed"
As usual, any cautionary message has a story behind it ;)
We bought a toaster some years back and top and bottom of every page, in bold letters, underlined, and in many places throughout the text it read "CAUTION: do not toast rice cakes"
The kids thought this was hilarious and to this day, over 20 years later, whenever someone is about to do something questionable they'll say "don't toast rice cakes"
me, I assumed someone sued the company for their own stupidity and won because jurors are just as stupid as the rest of the population...even dumber, they couldn't get out of jury duty...
For years, there was a website (may still be) that I eventually stopped checking because the stupid hurt too much: overlawyered.com
It chronicled actual cases. My personal favorite on the "warning labels" one was the case where some carpet was being installed in a basement. They used a glue that said "Caution: flammable. Do not use indoors".
The gas water heater kicked on, igniting the fumes. Boom.
They sued the glue maker. They admitted on the stand that they had read the warning. They won anyway, and the reasoning was that it said "Warning: flammable", not "Warning: explosive".
There was also the "Remove child before folding" warning on umbrella strollers...
The biggest problem is that the courts started to use a 'percentage of fault' system...Even if you know you're 99% in the wrong, you still sue for $100 Million because 1% of that is $1 Million.
It's not new, either. There was a case up here some 45 years ago that I still remember.
A man drove through a red light and killed another man when he broadsided him.
The second man's widow sued the first one's Insurance company for a very large sum and won.
Some time later, the first man was so despondent over what he'd done and the huge sum involved that he killed himself.
His widow prompotly sued the second man's widow for half of her insurance settlement because it was one source of his depression.
and won.......
how.. common sense ,, first to be used is the vulgar, then the play on names, then the common names..
i mean most have to try 10 to 20 names before they get one not used... rob stanley is used in so many variations.. an they wont let me use ' robot '... o.0
Forgot to mention, fantastic art in this one, no wonder it took so long ;)
The backgrounds and the ship in the first panel are great and is that a Colonial Viper clone TeeDee's piloting ?
I'd have accepted a dual-seater where she gets to be the pilot and Ada gets to be the gunner for their VR-excursion, may as well practice without banging real equipment up
“You understand, Major Ramsey, I would love to sleep with you but my inhibitor won’t allow it because —as a uniformed member of a foreign power — you are classed as a security risk. UNLESS, I can get Princeps Noctis to assign me to spy on you, in which case, no worries. Are you okay with that?” ^_^
I had the understanding that the 'skull-picking' Feelie went through earlier had determned that there were no 'contamination' from the Commander Pauline-body ;-)
Ok, so this is clearly a mashup of multiple sci-fi shows, but which ones ?
Two are obvious, Battlestar Galactica, and Startrek Enterprise, and TeeDee's callsign of "Lieutenant Starfuck" is a spoof of "lieutenant Starbuck" form the 2004 remake of Batllestar Galactica.
But are there any other shows already mentioned that I didn't notice?
We know that the dynamic duo likes to sneak in references, and this is a golden opportunity for them to do so. 😄
Her ship looks more like a Colonial Viper than anything else
Multiple references to Battlestar, maybe somebody watched it lately ?
I can't make out what it says on her headrest but maybe 'HALO' ?
I don't play that one, but the triangle logo sort of reminds me of something
I'm sure we'll havea lot of fun looking in the next few pages...
This seems to be TeeDee's VR, I wonder what Ada's is ?
Maybe something more romantic, like an antebellum mansion setting with petticoats aplenty to be sundered, or perhaps a stately manor house perched on a windswept Highland crag, or she might even appear the 'cyber vampire pirate ship' Captain with her swashes half unbuckled ;)
Or maybe Ada's playing the 'Battlestar Enterforaprize' if TeeDee got to choose the game/VRexperience...and next time TeeeDee has to play Ada's romance game ;)
Arrr! 😁

There, was that so hard? :D

It would make sense that there could be a skiing resort that offers both regular vacations and VR-cations as well. A two-for-one, if you will.
If you immerse yourself in a game at home, that's just called 'Tuesday'...
Re: alt text: No, no I am not surprised.
Nice scene intro. Worth the wait!

On a box of knives - "Keep out of children"

typically TeeDee
@alt text: no, no surprise there... =P
I'd have expected something like Skullfucker 666 ;)

I think TeeDee would make a fine Lieutenant Starbuck. 😂

One thing we can be pretty certain of, though: They will sparkle if you light them up with anti-ship weaponry. ^_^

Dialog definitely flows nicely here, and the art continues to be top notch!
Got lots to catch up on =)
