You know, as hard as it is to believe that you two are actually innocent of _anything_, I'm still going with "no one gets themselves infected with Pooh's flu on purpose". Not even you two.

Take care of yourselves, and start the zinc-based anti-virals yesterday.

What are you talking about? Why would we hate you? For being ill? For things beyond your control? You just get better. We can wait. We appreciate your work and all hope you get healthy again soon.
Take your time and don't get back to working too soon.
All the best, with kind regards,

No hate here. Besides your filler is often better than some comics regular pages

My very best wishes to you both, and thank you.

Please take care of yourself. I had this person coming to visit over a year ago, and I am still recovering, so be good to yourself and take the rest you need.
Phoebe 5th Jan 2022, 6:19 AM edit delete reply
So sorry to hear that! I have a colleague who is still very visibly a mess, months later, and it really bugs me how little people talk about the long-term effects, dismissing the whole problem like "not THAT many people died".

Hope you get back to normal soon!

Good friend of mine had the "Rona early in 2020 and although he made it through without any serious complications he has completely lost his sense of taste and smell. Even a year later he still can't smell anything 99% of the time and his sense of taste is so dull he could eat ghost peppers like potato chips. Now that doesn't sound too bad right? Imagine not being able to really enjoy food anymore and not being able to smell say, smoke from a fire, or food that has gone bad. He says once in a while he will get a whiff of something and then it passes and he is back to nothing.

Five friends dead since this started, our family went thru the experience pretty much all at the same time back in March 2021. Luckily, no second helpings so far. That said, I'm tired of the constant fear mongering. Yes, it's deadly., yes, it spreads quickly. However, I swear there are people eagerly addicted to fear and anxiety and they want to share it with everybody. Get well soon and you should leave the comic alone for however long it takes. .

Tis' the and fluids, this too will pass.

Can we have Corona-chan as a regular character ?
Great job on her wings and her dress and hair sit naturally, looks almost like a photo at first glance.

Gilrandir 5th Jan 2022, 12:56 PM edit delete reply
One supposes, if we ever get more action scenes in cyberspace, that Corona-chan could be an avatar for either a hostile A.I.S. (Dark Kusanagi?) or else targeted computer virus weaponry.

Can we imagine a battle sequence of Kusanagi versus Corona-chan?
Centcomm 5th Jan 2022, 3:07 PM edit delete reply

hah maybe?
Centcomm 5th Jan 2022, 3:08 PM edit delete reply

Rose made the character, i just borrowed her to put it in this scene.
Morituri 11th Jan 2022, 2:44 PM edit delete reply
Clearly she is some AI's avatar and/or doll.

I'm sure the setting has at least one AI who is a psycho into good old-fashioned meatspace ass-kicking. You know, as a hobby. Or, maybe, she does that for hire. In her custom-tailored doll with all the dedicated ass-kicking mods.

My first thought, when I see one of these forces of nature personified, is "what's their motivation?" See, as a mere force of nature, they don't need motivations. But the minute somebody puts a smiling face on them, makes them a character, then they don't really seem to make sense to me without one.

I said very early in 2020 (before the first "lockdown", even) that it was over, we missed the chance, that the Wuhan Flu (that's what the Chinese themselves called it) was out and part of the "seasonal mix".

It's not a "pandemic", it is "endemic". We will all get it. And, like the "common cold" (which is also a coronavirus), we will, over time, get it again.

The good news is that the standard evolutionary path of such viruses (which the Wuhan Flu is following so far) is to become more contagious (bummer) and less dangerous (yay!).

So, sorry you're sick... but it was going to happen eventually, so at least you're getting it over with (for a while).

And yes, I've had it. It was no fun. Do take good care of yourself!
Some Ed 5th Jan 2022, 4:49 PM edit delete reply
I don't particularly care that the Chinese themselves call it that. When the people I knew who called it that started being more anti-Chinese in close proximity to talking about covid, I called them on it.

As it turns out, it didn't actually come from China. I know people who had the symptoms as early as 2019 September who live in the US. The person I know who got it in 2019 September has not been outside of the US in her life. It was just first properly diagnosed as something new in Wuhan. I've not heard of any earlier super-spreader events for it, so they may have had the best opportunity to recognize it as something new.

Looking at it from another perspective, the Chinese are unlikely to blame the Chinese people as a whole for the pandemic. People outside of China on the other hand? I don't know the people you know, maybe they're good about this. A lot of people I know have.

If masks work, everyone properly wearing masks for a couple of months could get us through this. But unfortunately,

- A lot of people don't seem to realize they need to cover their nose with the mask.
- Some people don't seem to realize they need to cover their mouth with the mask.
- Most people I've seen with masks don't seem to have even tried to get a good seal.
- Few people with beards have made the necessary facial hair adjustments to enable a good seal.
- Most people I've seen with fashionable masks don't have a functional mask underneath.
- I've lost count of the number of people I've seen who took off their mask to sneeze into their bare hand. Yeah, I don't like the consequences of sneezing into my mask, but at least that way I'm not spreading germs or exposing myself when I'm at increased vulnerability.

I've not had it. That may be in part due to me using my mask properly, but it's at least partially due to luck, as I share an apartment with people who seem to think that when maintenance enters the apartment, the whole apartment is magically potentially compromised (which isn't really a problem), and the moment they leave it's magically safe (which could be.) One of them works in a hospital. She's not patient facing and she *usually* is able to telecommute, but she's still at higher risk than most.

As far as ongoing stuff? I'm keeping my mask even after this is declared a non-issue. I'm wearing it every flu season, and yeah, that means I'm going to especially be wearing it outdoors. Maybe it's not as effective against SARS2 as we'd like, I don't really know. But I didn't get the flu since we've been wearing face masks, and I like that. I also find that it's at least some thermal protection for a part of my face I wasn't able to adequately protect before, because wearing a scarf means I get bits of thread in my nose and mouth.
Oldarmourer 5th Jan 2022, 4:57 PM edit delete reply
few people realize that trying to stop a virus, corona- or other variety with a woven cloth or paper mask is like trying to stop a mosquito with a chain link fence. That's not what they were designed or intended for, real Dr's have pointedthat out put politicians need to make people think they can do something so you get 'mask laws'. All they do is soak up the moisture from your breath and hold the germ laden soup closer to your face so you get a good dose...then when you end up with bacterial pneumonia they can call it 'covid'.
Centcomm 5th Jan 2022, 7:13 PM edit delete reply

this is why you change masks. anything but a good grade surgical mask is just not trying.. the same with the "i dont wanna' attatude..

given the back story of Datachasers one wondered how the oblivion virus made it all over the world.. now we know. points at random idiot wearing his mask under his chin...
Lurker314 6th Jan 2022, 12:42 AM edit delete reply
You mean the chin breather?
Oldarmourer 6th Jan 2022, 9:27 AM edit delete reply
or pulling theirs down to bitch at someone for not wearing one while they're sitting in their car with the windows's gone past any form of usefulness and is just a social tool now.

The funny part is that I held international qualifications in the approach, control, rendering safe, removal and final disposal of biological weapons among other things and we never once wore a mask in any of the training, they were deemed to be less than useless.
That's why most of the boxes they come in have 'not for the prevention of disease' or similar written on them.
megados 6th Jan 2022, 1:55 PM edit delete reply

Well, then if you have surgery or a medical procedure, you should probably tell them not to wear any masks.
Oldarmourer 11th Jan 2022, 8:08 PM edit delete reply
Surgical masks are to prevent them spraying their dinner into an open wound or having a nicked artery or other wayward bodily fluid squirt down their throats, they're not worn for viral protection because they quite simply don't stop viruses.
megados 12th Jan 2022, 6:01 AM edit delete reply

That's incorrect. The virus is contained in the moisture that everyone exhales. the masks are an effective method of helping to contain those droplets. They are worn to minimize the possibility of infection from either direction. It has been scientifically shown.
Centcomm 7th Jan 2022, 1:41 AM edit delete reply

Moderator intervention. I for one think masks do have a effect on the total cross infection when used correctly. and like anything else its not 100 percent effective. please dont make me delete comments,

i am a pissy bitch and i dont feel well.

"As it turns out, it didn't actually come from China. I know people who had the symptoms as early as 2019 September who live in the US."

Yes, but we know from satellite imagery around their hospitals that it started in China much earlier than they admit, too.

Your points about it being a slight against the Chinese.... um, sure. OK.

How many people use "Ebola" as a slight against people from Africa, or specifically the region around the Ebola river?

How many people use "Lyme disease" as a slight against people in the US, or the specific town of Lyme, Connecticut, where it gets its name?

We VERY often name diseases for where the first large outbreak happens - "Legionnaires Disease" because of a large outbreak at a meeting of the American Legion.

In fact, that kind of naming is so common, the utter freak out about the name (which western media itself also used for several months, along with the Chinese themselves) is itself far more interesting.

In fact, considering the way the Chinese government (which is the primary point of complaint of every single person I know who complains, not people who happen to be of Chinese ancestry) got the WHO to make public declarations which they later admitted they *knew at the time* were false, plus the *ridiculous* story about it coming from the "wet market" (despite being a stone's throw from a bio-lab that had leaked several times in the past, working on *bat derived coronaviruses* at the time), the sudden freakout about the supposed racism involved in the name seems overwhelmingly likely to be entirely political in nature.

I will politely assume you to have been played, rather than being one of the dishonest pushers of the BS.
Responder to Guest 8th Jan 2022, 3:02 PM edit delete reply
Ah, the wonderful brave souls who use Anonymous and Guest. I might as well join the trend. My understanding is that the WHO had decided that official documentation should not use the names of ethnic groups or countries some years before COVID-19 became a thing. It wasn't just the Chinese. People in Hong Kong were also very unhappy about having a virus named after them. By the way, the American Legion was very unhappy about having their name on the disease.

I will agree that they People's Republic of China handled the situation very badly in the beginning. They attempted to conceal the disease instead of working to stop its spread. They apparently destroyed evidence without examining it, evidence which could have cleared the Wuhan facility but really couldn't have confirmed any culpability.

You might want to consider the Babylon 5 episode Confessions and Lamentations . It does seem appropriate.
Deoxy 10th Jan 2022, 11:44 AM edit delete reply
I was the one that came across as "Guest", there, for some unknown reason - probably related to the immediately previous post from me, responding to a different portion of the thread. Not sure how it happened, but sorry for that.

Your example of previous groups "unhappy" with having stuff named after them... well, we still call those diseases by those names. It supports my position, actually - what was so special about this case, where the media had a sudden (and well-coordinated) freakout about the name *they themselves* had been using until moments before?

Your reference to Babylon 5 is awesome, by the way. Such a great show.
