I'm just wondering if Dolly would have walked right into the gutter's trap or not, DLK. Or if she would have taken a different path that might have avoided the gutter altogether.
I'm not sure where you are getting that, DLK. Dolly apparently knew NOTHING about the change in plan (let alone the flight plan) before the air car came up.
And Lynn had already FILED the flight plan. I don't see that Dolly had ANY input into it. Or any opportunity to approve or disapprove it. Dolly may have gotten an opportunity to review it at that point, but Lynn had pretty much shut her down by then.
At least that is the way I read that sequence. Lynn picked the route, Dolly had nothing to do with it (except that she DID raise Lynn). I fear though that Lynn was in such a hurry that she probably filed the straightest 'safe' course and made it pretty damn easy to intercept her.
Oh and I wouldn't be shocked if Dolly filed one course and then took another, filing an in-flight 'adjustment' with a hold on notifying anyone until she landed or there was an emergency. Dolly normally thinks several moves ahead.
Thinking several moves ahead like that does sound like Dolly.
However, I don't think having a straight and documented flight plan is what got Lynn in this mess.
Rather, I think it was a couple pages earlier where Lynn became so bored and decided to -log into the comm system with her user ID- in order to watch some V3D in order to pass the time.
My guess: The gutters were probably listening to the airwaves and their system had already been set to look for her user ID.
(Or did that merely create a "backdoor" for the gutters to hack her car?)
xpace, I'm gonna have to admit that I like your theory. It makes sense for the gutters to be looking for her system ID because SPOILERS REMOVED. They're more intelligent than they are given credit for (even by us).
I had always wondered how they intercepted her, and this is a plausible scenario. Additionally, being reminded how the sequence of events plays out helps! :) Rereading pays off!
Of course, once the got on the ground, that would be a different story, but still.
