Wait... What sets an android apart from an A.I.S.? Feelings and thoughts of their own?
I could have sworn that the story reveals that Cent-Comm has or is capable of having emotions. (I think you even said as much.) It's just that, sometimes, Cent-Comm chooses to turn them off, such as to strategize and do what needs to be done. And it should go without saying that Cent-Comm has thoughts of her own, despite being constrained by certain programming and duties. I'd be very surprised if even the cold and impersonal Deep Blue does not have thoughts of his own.
To be fair, we don't get a lot of details about A.I.S.'s. The only ones mentioned in the story (so far) are Cent-Comm, Deep Blue, and Aeneas. That might include Tokyo Rose (who acts quite "human"), too, but we don't really know what she is...
Perhaps Mr. Logrin, as nice and understanding as he seems to be towards androids, is a bit clueless when it comes to A.I.S.??
I suspect that the thoughts and emotions of bots, AIS', and androids are more varied than anyone realizes. Logrin is probably reciting from a textbook which fell short of the mark ages ago.
Also, what's with this cover story? With the "being sold at auction" and "previous owner" bits, Ceci makes it sound like she was sold and bought like property - like a slave. We know that New Troy is not like that and it's a safe bet Mr. Logrin knows this.
Granted, it's more like she - like all NT androids - put themselves into indentured servitude to pay for their body, skills, and upgrades. That "body loan" can and is bought and sold at auctions. But then, I guess both parties in this convo know this and leave it unsaid?
Just saying that "debt owner" sounds a lot better than "owner"...
I'm surprised that Ceci is not that good at lying. Being a Black Angel, I'd think she would come with a very high Deception skill rating/training. (That said, I thought her story was pretty good, aside from sounding like she was literally sold like a slave in NT.)
I'm most surprised that she readily admits to being an Angel model, while Commie told Dolly that she has a "modified guardian frame"... Unless that's really the same thing, i.e. Angels are generally modified guardian frames, and the fact that she is an Angel was implied?...
