Kipling was inspired by the biblical story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42 to write "The Sons of Martha". He later adapted his own work as part of the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer, performed by graduates of Canadian engineering programs. Made sense for it to be further adapted into the Church of the First Circuit.
Missiles are slightly less precise, less pinpoint than the original laser turret. Still since the bad guys didn't know what was coming, having more makes some sense.
I'd say it actually helps. It acts as a controlled breathing exercise and the recitation has a calming effect to help keep the person focused and not panicking. That may just be enough to make the difference in a critical moment
Ada probably wouldn't use swear words, instead I think she would do "swear" in the same manner as the Epic Stephen Fry rant, it has to be one of the best rants I have ever heard.

Rose, you are a good enough writer that I really did believe that "Sons of Martha" was your work, and I stand by my opinion of your writing.
