You can tell that despite the fact that Decimus is in control, that he still holds some level of fear and respect for Maxus, and that he's going to listen even though Maxus is his subordinate.
In military talk this would be an interdiction strike. An assault that is intended to interrupt the enemies activity and force then to react to the new threat.
The general has gotten inside the emperor's decision cycle and forced him to stop his previous intent and deal with the general. By cutting him off each time he is forcing the emperor to agree with him.
Armor or no, Deck is gonna be in a world of hurt. Maxus looks like he could crush a tank with his bare hands. He's genegineered, right? Who designed him, I wonder.
Max was created by the church of Genetic Purity as a gladiator, he did so with distinction and honor. he is a "Trans-human" and is far stronger and moer durable than a normal human. and yes he can bench press engine blocks. :D
Glad you like it, but I can't take credit for it...I picked that little euphemism (among others) up from my dad...after 30 years wearing sergeant's stripes, he had some really creative ones :-D
I feel like Maxus just went all Mr. T on Deck, just in a more civil tone...but you could add "fool!" to the end of each Maxus sentence and it would still work just fine. ;)
This type of training session has usually been the most informative for noblity throughout history. Presumatively due to to lack of consideration for rank.
Something I wonder here, Maximus was constructed to be a Gladiator however; he is a master of Chess, well read, educated in tactics, leadership skills and Diplomacy. Something here doesn't add up a Gladiator should not have the "soft" skill sets he has. Why does he have them, who programed them in and why? The more I see this guy the more questions arise.
He was engineered to enhance physical traits, but there was no attempt to de-emphasize mental ones. Successful gladiators are basically sports superstars, so he had the clout to request educational materials and other diversions even while he was still a slave. He's been a free man for 17 years now, and he's been putting his time to very good use.
Why wouldn't a gladiator know something about tactics, at least on the 'small unit' scale? Not all matches were one-on-one. Likewise, living among a group of trained and well-conditioned killers, I can easily see someone learning at least a rough form of diplomacy, as well as leadership skills. I'd be more surprised if he lacked those skills than if he had them, and he's had several years of 'civilian life' living among the Upper Crust (tm) to polish said skills.
Uh if Maxus has this much authority to order the imperator around how did they get to this point anyway? Deci from what we've seen seems like he is much more likely to simply order maxus killed.

Well played general, well played.
right soon, he will find himself in a 'crappy hamper'!]
This wallpaper has a more definite opinion about things.
He will be way too sore to wave it around for quite some time!
That our rescued damsel in distress
Must be having a very warm moment...
(Just look at that expressive face!)
And yeah, what an asset Maxus is: a well-honed person in all senses. With the mess his city is in, he's badly needed. Hope he survives what's coming.
Maxus : faceplam..
