Centcomm 19th May 2013, 11:41 PM edit delete reply

well google translatger did its best..
" but that is not is only of the common people that it exists as a pilot bio- " doesnt make much sense.. >_<

Paraphrasing Popeye, She is what she is. And perhaps a wee bit more if she can grow beyond her limits.

ahhh that makes more sense now :D

Draginbeard 20th May 2013, 12:42 AM edit delete reply

Oi! CeCi is juggling a LOT of voices... I seriously hope she listens to the one that doesn't advocate a 'Scorched Earth' solution!
velvetsanity 20th May 2013, 1:20 AM edit delete reply

So. Now we know for certain that the device was planted by CentComm, who is now revealed to be a self-righteous, arrogant ****. Joleet was clearly chosen to provide a distraction by letting Dolly stumble across a lead to Dari's location, in the hopes of distracting her from rescuing Lynn.

Too bad for B*tch Central that it forgot to account for the Human Factor.

The only question now is, will Ceci tell Dolly about it?

And just how pissed at CentComm is Dolly going to be when she adds 2+2? Not to mention when CentComm either prevents Mira from delivering her message or simply makes her disappear?
cattservant 20th May 2013, 1:36 AM edit delete reply

Dolly has many years of guile and connections tucked away.

[At this point in time, Mira is a wild card that Dolly can play.]
velvetsanity 20th May 2013, 1:54 AM edit delete reply

Very true. Dolly is just getting started, and CentComm is going to regret mistaking the Queen and the Knight for lowly Pawns. I'm just wondering what message Mira is going to be delivering to either Calli or Minx, and what the response to that message will be.
cattservant 20th May 2013, 2:29 AM edit delete reply

On the subject of overarching background plots; Consider the socioeconomic and political tensions on the North American continent between the City States, The Wastelands, Lunar interests and the odd X-Tee or so.

[And Joleet is right in the middle of it all!]
Hans 20th May 2013, 9:04 AM edit delete reply
Also Central missed some wild cards on the board.
I wonder if and what Aeneas knows about this place.
cattservant 20th May 2013, 9:33 AM edit delete reply

That's a good point. The unaffiliated AIs are the very definition of a Wild Card!
Dragonrider 20th May 2013, 3:29 AM edit delete reply

Don't think the message is to Minx or Sir Galahad still think it is to Centcomm, however she might choose Minx to deliver it knowing Centcomm is in full control of Minx at this point.

I think Ceci will make a mistake and not tell Dolly Blue just the same as Dolly Blue will make a mistake and not reveal the sabotage to her thus making both their jobs harder than they need to be.
cattservant 20th May 2013, 3:41 AM edit delete reply

That would make good melodrama!
ge2org 20th May 2013, 6:45 AM edit delete reply

So Ceci is supposed to stall dolly from reaching her destination? What exactly is cent doing?

And a random question that just popped into my head, are there any species of animals left on future earth?
Centcomm 20th May 2013, 10:34 AM edit delete reply

some animals survived in various new forms... "D

as for the other no spoilers :D
Sheela 20th May 2013, 3:04 PM edit delete reply

Any cute doggies among them ? :D
Computant 13th Aug 2016, 6:01 PM edit delete reply
Cent allowed Dolly (a comparative civilian) to go on a "rescue" mission and tried to keep her from reaching the danger zone for her own protection. Meanwhile a 5 person combat team designed for the mission is going in and will hopefully be able to report successful extraction (or regrettably the death of the target) before Dolly can reach New Rome.
This is all my take on Cent's thought process, not what will actually happen.
LooeyQ 20th May 2013, 6:48 AM edit delete reply

I have voices like that in my head too, only they tell me to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and watch cartoons. I tend not to argue with it. :D
Centcomm 20th May 2013, 10:34 AM edit delete reply

hah Ceci wishes hers was that nice.
Dragonrider 20th May 2013, 4:48 PM edit delete reply

Mine tell me to stay home, clean the guns and polish the ammo.
Stormwind13 11th Oct 2013, 11:41 AM edit delete reply

As long as it doesn't tell you to start EXPENDING the ammo, Dragon it is all good.
Some Ed 2nd Jun 2017, 5:09 PM edit delete reply
Damn it, I already *had* one peanut butter, jelly, and honey sandwich today. Sigh. I guess I need to do another... Some people! ;)
KarToon12 20th May 2013, 7:52 AM edit delete reply

I'm really loving this battle of logics here. It reminds me of how Captain Kirk would defeat super computers on Star Trek. XDXD
Centcomm 20th May 2013, 10:34 AM edit delete reply

I remmeber that .. - god.,. I remember watching that on broadcast tv
Stormwind13 11th Oct 2013, 11:42 AM edit delete reply

Who doesn't remember watching it on broadcast TV? :-D Of course, we didn't get cable for two forevers, so all the reruns were on broadcast TV too. :-p

*points to the inner monologue and then at dragonrider and laughs* HA!!!! I Told you Ceci Is NOT like centcomm I thin kyou owe her an apology *hands ceci a muzzle for her "Watchdog" and some files on obedience training stubborn dogs.
Sheela 20th May 2013, 3:07 PM edit delete reply

... wait what ? stubborn dogs ?

And CombatClippy is evolving into CombatClippy 2.0 ?
Dragonrider 20th May 2013, 4:53 PM edit delete reply

*Taps Rash on shoulder* Suggest you wait a while the Big Dogs haven't come out to control Ceci yet, this was only round 1.5 wait till round three or four Centcomm will step up the pressure on Ceci's logic circuts, got a feeling Nova Roma is the only thing that may save Ceci'c sanity.
velvetsanity 20th May 2013, 5:19 PM edit delete reply

That's assuming her circuits don't suffer a physical meltdown...
Rashala 20th May 2013, 5:21 PM edit delete reply

I have FAITH in Ceci
Chris D 3rd Oct 2015, 1:09 AM edit delete reply
Meh, I still think Ceci is a bomb. A well intentioned bomb who hates its purpose, but a bomb nonetheless.
CyberSkull 20th May 2013, 2:53 PM edit delete reply

So Centcom does want Dolly out of the way while the real mission happens.

This is why you don't give your operatives free will if the objectives would run counter to the personalities you program into them.
velvetsanity 20th May 2013, 5:26 PM edit delete reply

Yeah. Unfortunately, CentComm seems to be thinking too conventionally, in terms of tactics. I'm actually rating Dolly and Ceci's chances of succeeding as higher than Marcus' strike team.

Comparing the two groups is basically comparing someone like, say, Jack Bauer/Jason Bourne/MacGuyver vs, say, G.I. Joe.

No offense intended towards the members of either groups, it's just that Dolly and Ceci are an unconventional force, while Marcus' team are a conventional force.

As paranoid as drekhead is, he's likely expecting a conventional response, and leaving a hole wide enough to drive Jupiter through when it comes to unconventional forces. Doubly so given his obsession with ancient Rome.
CyberSkull 20th May 2013, 6:16 PM edit delete reply

I think Centcom is doing a crazy motivational gambit on Dolly and CeCi.

By placing the obvious stumbling blocks of the vehicle limiter and the watchdog, Centcom will make our heroes more determined to succeed in that whole fist-shaking we'll show her kind of psychological motivation.
Tokyo Rose 20th May 2013, 7:27 PM edit delete reply

Let's just say that Cent-Comm overlooked a few coding conflicts when she put Ceci together. True, the average coding conflict just makes your program not run, as opposed to causing your computer to violently expel its DVD-ROM across the room or declare itself the King of Saturn, but the more complex tech gets, the weirder its fuck-ups become.
Rashala 20th May 2013, 7:37 PM edit delete reply

......Rose you just paint the Oddest of mental images
velvetsanity 20th May 2013, 7:47 PM edit delete reply

@Cyberskull, Rose: as I said, Cent-Comm failed to account for the Human Factor :)
CyberSkull 20th May 2013, 10:31 PM edit delete reply

But they aren't human… Intelligent and "alive" if you want to use the term, but not human.
velvetsanity 21st May 2013, 1:06 AM edit delete reply

They meet all but one of the criteria to be truly considered alive. Self-reproduction.

They are sentient and sapient, possessing self-awareness and free will, with a humanlike conciousness and emotions, as well as similar reactions to extreme circumstances (reference: Kelly). Based on that, I'd have to say androids could be considered a form of human. Anyone who says otherwise, I say to you: were not asians and africans once considered to not be human by the europeans? And native americans as well?

To those who say "they're only machines" I say this: what is the body of a man or animal if not a machine? Look up the definition of what a machine is, and you'll see that it can be applied to the human body. The human brain is nothing more than the most complex and advanced computer currently known to man.
CyberSkull 21st May 2013, 1:46 AM edit delete reply

I never made the argument that they are "just machines". As you said, we are machines as well. But my point is that Dolly and CeCi are a separate species of intelligence.

And as for reproduction, who says they can't?
velvetsanity 21st May 2013, 2:57 AM edit delete reply

The author says they can't. :P (not even Dolly. see last page's comments)

As for being an alien intelligence to our own, isn't that every one of us, to each other? :)
Don B. 20th May 2013, 10:32 PM edit delete reply
Let's not forget that CentComm was in a bit of a hurry at the time and preoccupied with the situation. I don't doubt that even AIs like her will make mistakes from time to time. Good thing too...Ceci wouldn't be Ceci as we're coming to know her if CentComm hadn't. She is a very interesting and increasingly complex character.
CyberSkull 20th May 2013, 10:32 PM edit delete reply

I'm sure some DRM does that already.

Oh my god.. perhaps the funniest comment I've read in ages. Packard bell... my first computer was a packard bell.. what a useless piece of shit it was. Good riddance.
velvetsanity 20th May 2013, 7:51 PM edit delete reply

I bet Kyle could help Ceci with the pit bull in her head :D
Rashala 20th May 2013, 9:50 PM edit delete reply

Give me a local a Small power laser and five seconds and I could too
velvetsanity 21st May 2013, 1:14 AM edit delete reply

Do you have the relevant knowledge and skills to do such a thing?
Rashala 21st May 2013, 1:59 PM edit delete reply

surprisingly .....

yes yes I do I took an extension course in it
velvetsanity 21st May 2013, 3:33 PM edit delete reply

so, you can successfully rewrite what is probably highly obfuscated and optimized code written from scratch by a thousand year old AIS in less than 5 seconds?
Centcomm 21st May 2013, 3:40 PM edit delete reply

this is making me giggle both of you :D
and I think he means to both out the chip rather than recode ..
Rashala 21st May 2013, 3:40 PM edit delete reply

4.56 TO be precise. But since the code itself likely is housed in a small component interfaced with Ceci's neural network All I would need to do it Supply it with false test signals to make it thingk it is still online while using the lazer to sever the connectors and then remove and Throw Very far away as it likely is armed to destruct if removed And seal up wound give Ceci a Icecream or something for being such a good patient and a kiss on her nose.
Chris D 3rd Oct 2015, 1:18 AM edit delete reply
Why does this comment remind me of Total Recall.. when Arnold's character had to pull a tracking beacon/bomb or whatever it was out through his nose.
Dragonrider 21st May 2013, 4:29 PM edit delete reply

I still think that despite Centcomm's statements to the contrary either she can step in to Ceci's core rom or she has a back-up that can be activated by watchdog, especially if the wrong commands are used to try to shunt watchdog out of the circuit.
Centcomm 21st May 2013, 4:33 PM edit delete reply

I dont think ive confimed or denyed anything about watchdog...
Rashala 21st May 2013, 5:53 PM edit delete reply

*Powers up the Laser and Bypass kit*

Well If I can't get it out of Ceci...... I can always rewire Some of Centcomms senor iputs :)
Thomas 18th Apr 2014, 6:05 PM edit delete reply
When she cogito ergo sum'ed I wanted to hug her very badly. Looks like CentComm wanted a puppet and got a child instead. How inconvenient for it.
notStanley 30th Dec 2015, 2:47 AM edit delete reply
Still trying to think of Cent-Comm as one of the "good" guys: Watchdog said it was from New Troy Special Operations. The blacker a SpecOps, the more likely it may have a splinter group whose agenda is not really aligned with top management?

Though Cent-Comm is trying to avoid anyone realizing the implications of Lynn's mom having a "genetic" key to the armory.
Ictuan 13th Nov 2017, 8:32 PM edit delete reply
Still rereading from where megados dropped us off with the link about Kali on

The Dolly and Ceci fan service during their stop at this watering hole drew my attention to one character detail that I really appreciate. For the most part the female characters have normal/realistic body proportions and aren't so top heavy that in real life they'd have serious back issues.

I wish some of the digital comics I follow that are authored by men would follow Centcomm and Tokyo Rose's artistic lead on character proportions because too much of a good thing is just too much. Maybe I just need to find more women authored comics to follow.
