"...say what you want, not what's real."
That's a classic response to an age old situation.

[The philosophy quotient is getting elevated again!]
Mayyday 30th May 2013, 9:21 PM edit delete reply

I just LOVE the Mech girl talks. It just SOUNDS like some obscure local dialect/accent. Like something that has developed separate FROM yet parallel TO whatever the "main" dialect is.

...If that makes any sense.
Tokyo Rose 31st May 2013, 2:06 AM edit delete reply

Dialecting up Mira's dialogue is an enormous amount of fun, I confess :)
Don B. 31st May 2013, 7:24 AM edit delete reply
CentComms artistic talent has been commented on quite a bit. It's obvious we all love it. What isn't commented on much is your work, Rose. I'd like to take a moment and compliment you on your contribution to Datachasers. The dialogue has always felt natural to me, not forced. It's a big part of why I identify with the characters as people. I've mentioned before that the story is well thought out, coherent, interesting and I'm sure that your editing is responsible for that. You and Cent Comm do excellent work.
Centcomm 31st May 2013, 7:27 AM edit delete reply

you are right Rose does not get half the credit and kudos she should..
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 5:13 AM edit delete reply

She's shy!
Rogue 31st May 2013, 5:18 AM edit delete reply

I agree! Kudos, TR!
Centcomm 31st May 2013, 7:26 AM edit delete reply

rose did a awesome job with Mira esp scenece she took my hacked up wording and made it make sense and gave her a neat speaking pattern..
Rashala 30th May 2013, 9:26 PM edit delete reply

Yeah...Centcomm...you are way too sneaky and this is all gonna bite you in the butt soo nI think.
Centcomm 31st May 2013, 7:25 AM edit delete reply

hehe
plymayer 30th May 2013, 9:41 PM edit delete reply

Damn logic. Messing every thing up.
lalverson 30th May 2013, 10:12 PM edit delete reply
Her logic is very sound. I love that maybe so, maybe no. that is so north easter. But she's got a point. If lil C is joked up like blue be thinkin' jus' gettin caught woulda made her fight. Like a cornered badger. But she didn so keep an eye on her for sure but it ain't no sence poken round where ya don't know what might bite back..jus sayin..
cattservant 30th May 2013, 10:13 PM edit delete reply

CeCi's eyes are getting big!
Sheela 31st May 2013, 12:09 AM edit delete reply

It's the mascara that makes them look big.
Centcomm 31st May 2013, 7:25 AM edit delete reply

yup thats what good make up can do :D
ge2org 31st May 2013, 12:07 AM edit delete reply

good logic. i guess?
Dragonrider 31st May 2013, 5:25 AM edit delete reply

Hmmmm just a thought, our authoress may well have given us the answer a couple pages back. If she did then the problem may be solved, however there is still the problem with redundant systems.*Ignores dirty looks and fixes a Glenlivet neat. Hey it's after 5:00 P.M. somewhere in the Universe*
Centcomm 31st May 2013, 7:28 AM edit delete reply

the answers are always there.. jus may not be obvious yet..
KarToon12 31st May 2013, 7:04 AM edit delete reply

It's always in the place you least expect.
Don B. 31st May 2013, 7:55 AM edit delete reply
I wouldn't be surprised if Mira already has an answer. She's a sharp cookie and quickly becoming one of my favorites. Although it is hard to pick a favorite with such a large cast of great characters.
Don B. 31st May 2013, 12:08 PM edit delete reply
Maybe the answer involves the words "Directive" and/or "Override." Hiding in plain sight? CentComm having to "Cheat?" Think CombatClippy might have lied about those earrings?
Rashala 31st May 2013, 3:04 PM edit delete reply

I doubt it those earrings are quite soaked in water now and likely fried if anything...
Don B. 31st May 2013, 3:58 PM edit delete reply
I know it's a stretch, but...couldn't the hardware be encapsulated to protect from the elements, wireless, set to receive only until activated as a last ditch, go to hell plan? CentComm has proven herself devious enough for something like that. Then again, they ARE earrings. Easily lost or removed so I'm probably way off on this one.
pkrankow 31st May 2013, 5:38 PM edit delete reply

OR if the bug finder locates 59 out of the 113 bugs the people looking might think they found them all.
velvetsanity 1st Jun 2013, 6:14 AM edit delete reply

If you'll recall, Ceci didn't even let it tell her if they were bugged or not.
Dragonrider 1st Jun 2013, 7:23 AM edit delete reply

Gee interesting comments.wonder if the body suit could have had something built in using nano tech.
velvetsanity 1st Jun 2013, 9:40 AM edit delete reply

Good call. Get Ceci a completely new wardrobe, stat!

And let her pick everything out. After all, she didn't pick the clothes any more than she did the earrings.
Don B. 1st Jun 2013, 10:01 AM edit delete reply
It would be interesting to see what her personal choices are. Another glorified bathing suit kinda thing? Something a little more practical? She may have the pleasure droid programming but could take the role of assistant just as easily. After all that's come to light and about to come to light, she might try to differentiate herself from CentComms original intentions. I know I would.
velvetsanity 1st Jun 2013, 10:40 AM edit delete reply

I'd bet her first choices would be based on Dolly's outfits.

After all, she likely wants to be like "Mommy" :D
Don B. 1st Jun 2013, 12:21 PM edit delete reply
Ceci is like what...a week old? A bit naive but far from stupid. She couldn't find a better role model in my opinion. I'm looking forward to seeing what results when she figures out who she is. I'll lay odds that CentComm will be quite shocked upon her return to New Troy.
Don B. 1st Jun 2013, 12:32 PM edit delete reply
One thing I'm fairly sure of...Ceci will NOT be another of CentComms dolls and proud of that fact. She's a tough one when need be.
cattservant 1st Jun 2013, 12:39 PM edit delete reply

If she chooses to return.

[I could see CeCi and Kali and her crew setting up a 'Wastes Improvement Agency' in beautiful downtown Joleet.]
Don B. 1st Jun 2013, 2:01 PM edit delete reply
So far Ceci has proven herself loyal to Dolly and the mission as originally stated by CentComm. I would be very surprised if she didn't see this through to the end before deciding what to do. That is if she survives...don't forget, safe ended when they left New Troy. Anything could happen.
Sheela 1st Jun 2013, 2:20 PM edit delete reply

I think it's a good thing that Ceci doesn't act her age, it gets weird when adults act like children.
cattservant 1st Jun 2013, 2:36 PM edit delete reply

Of course the mission isn't quite as stated...
Sheela 1st Jun 2013, 2:40 PM edit delete reply

Indeed ... she's the princess ... look how much fun they're having. :D
Don B. 1st Jun 2013, 2:52 PM edit delete reply
Cat; As far as Ceci and Dolly are concerned, the mission is exactly as stated. Whatever CentComm may think.
cattservant 1st Jun 2013, 9:55 PM edit delete reply

That's true.
cattservant 1st Jun 2013, 12:38 PM edit delete reply

Just how cooperative are the major AIs?
Centcomm 2nd Jun 2013, 12:52 AM edit delete reply

that depends on the situation :D
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 1:29 AM edit delete reply

I can't remember Tokyo Rose and CentComm inter-reacting inside the 4th Wall.
Centcomm 2nd Jun 2013, 2:25 AM edit delete reply

no they havent as of yet..
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 5:10 AM edit delete reply

How seriously is Tokyo Rose covering her tracks?
Is CentComm aware of her?
Sheela 2nd Jun 2013, 7:08 AM edit delete reply

Is Tokyo Rose even an AI ?
velvetsanity 2nd Jun 2013, 9:02 AM edit delete reply

I've been wondering that for a while. I don't think she is, but I'm not sure
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 9:25 AM edit delete reply

She (sort of) said she was, but I think her origin may be quite different from the mainline AIs.
Don B. 2nd Jun 2013, 10:21 AM edit delete reply
I've been wondering about Tokyo Rose and CentComms origins. CentComm is a cold, calculating ice queen when the chips are down. I'm thinking she was some kind of intelligence AI. Tokyo Rose is hard to get a handle on. At various times we've seen her be serious, devious, friendly, irreverent...it's really hard to make a guess as to her origins. Aeneas is too crazy at the moment to provide any clues as to his origins, but I'm willing to bet it was something military going by all the hardware he has lying around. Deep Blue is the only one we actually know the origins of.
Don B. 2nd Jun 2013, 11:06 AM edit delete reply
Hmm...almost forgot about Luna. Based on her location, I would think she started out in enviromental.
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 11:08 AM edit delete reply

Luna?
Don B. 2nd Jun 2013, 1:11 PM edit delete reply
The lunar AI. I think there is one. I may be wrong but LunaComm seemed to be more than just a communications program. CentComm put the screws on her about where the ransom message came from. Thinking back, that could have been a human relaying the message...maybe? Now I'm a bit confused about this...umm...
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 2:52 PM edit delete reply

I think it was stated* that the Luna-Com spokesperson is a fourth generation descendant of Galina.

*(Though I can't cite it at the moment.)
Don B. 2nd Jun 2013, 7:15 PM edit delete reply
Now that you mention it, I believe you're right. I can't find the reference though...
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 11:07 AM edit delete reply

Don't forget New Sparta's AI.*

*(Whom I can never remember the name of!)
Sheela 2nd Jun 2013, 9:50 AM edit delete reply

Oh, OH !!
Time to get our crazy speculation on !

:)

/crackpot theory *ON*

Maybe, Tokyo Rose used to be an android named E113N, aka "Ellen", complete with synthbrain 'n' everything. But she was owned by a meanie-poo-poo-head who mistreated her a lot. And then, one evening, after some particularly nasty treatment that damaged her quite badly, she "screamed" her frustration out unto the network, not expecting anyone to answer, she was surprised when a human hacker decided to modify her contract using ... less than legal methods ... into changing ownership from her old master to himself, and then called the police, saying his android had gone missing and he just got a distress call from it.

The police, being surprisingly efficient for once, tracked her down right fast and got to her just as her old master was trying to throw her off the balcony .. again .. for the 4th time. They didn't much care for his claim that he owned her, when clearly E113n's contract said otherwise, so they promptly threw him in jail, which is one of her fondest memories even to this day.
Meanwhile, she was brought to a repair facility where she was stabilized - But unfortunately, this was when the young hacker appeared to come up short on money, and could not afford more repairs.

Soon, she lay in his apartment, slowly leaking synth fluids into his pillow, knowing she was not long for this world, even if he could replace those fluids faster than they seeped out - After all, other systems were detoriating, and expensive to repair. The young hacker was besides himself, apologizing, but E113n told him that even a few minutes of freedom from the old bastard was worth it all, even if it meant death for herself.

However - In a stroke of genius two of the young hackers friends came up with a way to connect her synthbrain to his mainframe in order to lower the load on the synthbrain and allow it's nano-tech repair system more leeway for repairs. The idea being only her brain and her powersupply was actually needed for raw survival until they could rebuild her body.

Being connected to the mainframe came as a shock to E113n, such raw processing power and unfiltered access to the networks almost undid her mind if the three young men hadn't been able to use themselves as anchors for her fleeting mind. The odd coupling of minds soon resulted in something new, something that wasn't E113n, something that wasn't an old Operating System on a mainframe, nor was it human in nature. It was a sort of gestalt mind from all of them, though mostly E113n, and it decided it needed a new name.

Weirdly, while the decision to get a new name took only a few seconds, finding the right name ended up taking months, because evolution kept changing her/it/them so fast that one name was no longer fitting until the changes slowed down and she/it settled into a stable form of mind.

Why they/it choose the name, Tokyo Rose, is another story altogether though. :)

/crackpot theory *OFF*

tl;dr version :
First she was an android, then she got damaged by a bastard, then as she was dying she experienced both human kindness and endless processing power - and they sorta fused - And that made her Tokyo Rose.

Offcourse, being made from a mindmelt of three young male hackers and an impressionable dying synthbrain, might explain her interesting in pornographic material and nightmare stories. :D
Don B. 2nd Jun 2013, 10:30 AM edit delete reply
Uh...hmm...wow. That was really something Sheela. I'm impressed. Really impressed actually. It's probably not what the authors had in mind, but it makes sense to me. I like the way you think. ;)
Sheela 2nd Jun 2013, 11:05 AM edit delete reply

He hee, why thank you.

It's not exactly hard to write fiction that way - you just grab a bag of loose facts that you already know, and then throw in some spice and seasoning, then bake at apocalytic temperatures for about 1.47 nanosecond. And then you write down your train of thought before it outruns you. :)

Making the art and the dialogue on the other hand ... that's much harder.
Besides, it's just a crackpot theory. :)
Don B. 2nd Jun 2013, 11:09 AM edit delete reply
Not having the ability for art or dialogue, I have to agree with you there. I can however, do music so I can't count that as a loss.
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 11:20 AM edit delete reply

Entirely plausible, plus it will remind The Management to keep a sharp eye on the Comments!

[Try Comic 614-615 and the arc around it for some cryptic insight.]
Sheela 2nd Jun 2013, 11:52 AM edit delete reply

well, you could always launch sextoys at the management. :D
Centcomm 2nd Jun 2013, 11:52 AM edit delete reply

O_O , wow ,, just wow.. wonder what rose will comment on this with. I will nither confirm.. or deny any fact about Rose ":D

I will say.. because this isnt spoilers

Centcomm was a govermental AI in charge of black ops and war time operations she was based in Norad and had ties to CIA / NSA / US Armed forces ALL she had to take the lead in the wars due to her superiours being killed..

Anieas : was one of the FIRST AI built BY the other AIs as a cilvilian aid and protector.

Deep Blue : ( check his profile )

the sparta AI is Agamemnon... and doesnt come up much.
Sheela 2nd Jun 2013, 12:01 PM edit delete reply

I'm happy you seemed to enjoy it. :)
Let's hope Rose does too.

Offcourse, if the Crackpot Theory is true, she's basically a brain in a jar on somebody's desktop now, even though now she could afford hundreds of bodies.

The idea came from how A.I.S.' work ... with the synthbrain acting as her main personality core, and the Mainframe as an auxillary system and the young hackers as "information" clusters and moral guidance.

Well .. moral guidance when they're not surfing porn. :D
Centcomm 2nd Jun 2013, 12:48 PM edit delete reply

one point of tech - the AIS systems use a "type" of processor that works diffrently than a synthbrain. this is backed up by hundreds of other units for processing and storage. AIS processors ( the actual CPU is quite small. ) but requires a lot of cooling power and suplemntal systems..
Sheela 2nd Jun 2013, 12:53 PM edit delete reply

I could imagine that quite easily, after all, AIS systems are aimed at handling large amounts of IO's (many, many concurrent users) which would require a lot of parallell processes to be run at the same time.

The Tokyo Rose I "invented" wouldn't have that need at the point of creation, and one could argue that her synthbrains neural net could to some degree handle the IO issues as long as there's only a few users. Basically, the synthbrain would be her main personality core, and the mainframe her main processing cores for other end users.

Besides, once created, one would imagine she would upgrade herself .. a lot !

And then some more ! :D
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 12:41 PM edit delete reply

You could say that Aeneas is CentComm's 'nephew'.
Rashala 2nd Jun 2013, 2:19 PM edit delete reply

.......Okay Its official I want some of what Sheela's Smokin.
Sheela 2nd Jun 2013, 2:31 PM edit delete reply

You want smoked salmon ?
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 2:41 PM edit delete reply

Good stuff, but hard to keep lit!
velvetsanity 2nd Jun 2013, 4:51 PM edit delete reply

Eep! CentComm really IS skynet! O_O
Rashala 2nd Jun 2013, 5:31 PM edit delete reply

and you JUST realized this velvet?
velvetsanity 2nd Jun 2013, 6:29 PM edit delete reply

No, I've compared CentComm to SkyNet before, just wasn't aware of exactly *how* accurate such a comparison was.
Don B. 2nd Jun 2013, 6:56 PM edit delete reply
We can be thankful that she's not trying to kill everybody...just Lynn (potentially). I missed the Skynet reference before, so this is a new one on me. (Sudden realization)***SKYNET!!?? AAAAAAGH!!!!***
Dragonrider 2nd Jun 2013, 12:00 PM edit delete reply

Nice idea there, I prefer the theory she was a rudimentary computer in a secret Tokyo Military Lab based in O-shima,(a small island in the east china sea). After the end of WWII the Kempeitai (Japanese Military Secret Service)continued to experiment and improve the computer with hopes of gaining what they wanted from WWII or world domination. In the early 2000's the Industrial Combine of Japan took over the project to create an electronic AI capable of neutralizing IBM and its AI project. With the forming of the Pan-Asian conglomerate more resources were available to them and the first incarnation of Tokyo Rose was born, names after the infamous Tokyo Rose of WWII.

Could keep on going but would end up tossing out more bits and pieces of the story I'm writing about post WWII in an alternate universe.
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 12:31 PM edit delete reply

I've wondered about the name 'Tokyo Rose' too.
If there were a counterpart of Euro-Combine origin, would it be named 'Sally'?
Sheela 2nd Jun 2013, 12:57 PM edit delete reply

Hrm .... maybe Lili Marleen ?
cattservant 2nd Jun 2013, 1:13 PM edit delete reply

One of the 'charms' of getting old is that your grasp on history gets antiquated and subject to reinterpretation by the younger generations.
