Congratulations to the one-thousandth comic update :)
...well, at least until you replace some more pages, Cent...
Wow, those two are really close. Ada must trust him quite well and is seeking comfort from him - so he really must be a nice guy ... somehow somewhere...
people see 1000 pages and go .. OMG I dont want to read 1000 pages -AGH! even though it doesnt seem to take that long to actually read with all the single panel pages..
You wouldn't believe how many times I've found a promising comic that had less than 50 pages and then just stopped. Not ended. Stopped. It's very disappointing and makes me avoid any future efforts by those whose creation it is. Finding a good comic that has a lot of pages and is still going is rare for me. Sure, it takes a little while to get through the archive but that never bothered me. You have stated that Data Chasers has an ending and while I'll be saddened by that come the day, you can bet that I will be there for your next project.
Been there, done that Don... And still keep on the lookout for new comics (which is how I found Datachasers after all :-D).
Have to agree though, when someone drops the readers without an explanation, how can I trust them to present something later? Now if they got sick or something, okay. Just let us KNOW!
If they won't do that, then I probably won't read them again.
I've never stopped looking...that's also how I found Data Chasers. All of the disappointments haven't discouraged me. I still remain optimistic. As a 47 year old geek, I know all about discouragement. You know, the "comics/cartoons/etc are for kids" thing. Sure, we all have to become responsible adults at some point but it never made sense to me that you need to give up the things that make life enjoyable.
"Just let us KNOW!" Thank you Stormwind13. That should be the mantra/chant of every reader and rule to live by of every creator. Yes there will be some for whom no explanation for the ending of a comic or story will be good enough. Most however will grant "good behavior" points at least if, not full understanding, if the creator makes the effort to make the final "I quit" post rather than simply vanishing from the web. I understand that is not going to happen if a creator dies and no one else has site admin access to make such a post.
One thing I found that seems to help those kind of readers is to have an abridged version of your story.
Yes, it's best if one reads EVERY page. But for those that'd refuse to do that why not give the option of the next best thing?
You don't have to. I just know that I only had 300 pages and had some commenters thanking me for the abridged because they didn't have time or patience to read it all and wanted to just jump into the story.
Hah! I laugh in the face of a mere thousand pages! I snap my fingers! I fart in its general... uhhh ... sorry, too much Monty Python at an impressionable age (27).
But i did a full archive binge on Questionable Content in three days. (2499 pages)
Yeah Antonious, but those are only WORDS... And words never scare us. I read that many in a year for sure. :-D
And for that matter if pictures are worth a thousand words then Datachasers has something like 2,487,000 words PLUS the words that Rose added in [that is based on 2487 panels, counting one picture per panel]. And then we have the comments to boot.
Might not add up to 6 million plus words, but it is still pretty respectable. :-D
Lots of effort from the team of CentComm and Tokyo Rose. And we thank you for putting forth that effort on our behalf. :-)
Whole lot of pages but worth it. I found this comic about a week ago been reading through sence. It's such a good story I'll be a little sad when I catch up & have to wait for updates.
well you can always check out Luna Star as well - same creative team and just as awesome :D and thank you so much for the compliments THIS is why I do this.
Because it takes so long to get through the backlog to get current. It was intimidating when I realized just how much I had to go through when I found Datachasers around the first of June.
I almost didn't get started, but then the artwork got me interested. Then the characters felt, real, and called me to want to know more about them. And there was a STORY going on which totally hooked me.
So I not only managed to get through the entire catalog, but almost lost track of things because I was so interested. I had to MAKE myself stop and eat. Had to stop and get some sleep, so I didn't miss out on things as my eyes got crossed from being too tired. Moreover, once I got done, I was eagerly looking for MORE! :-)
Then I had to go back and starting to put in my 2 credits worth. :-D
(Gah, all the other replies have moved this WAY away from where it started off of mjkj's why is it negative)
The worst for me was Schlock Mercenary... Gah, has not missed a day since he started posting in June of 2000. Of course, I have been reading for the last few years so it wasn't QUITE as daunting when I tackled it.
Of course, I wasn't reading very many webcomics then either. :-)
I tend to like the longer comics, it gives me something to read.. and less time I have to sit there on pins and needles waiting for the next comic.... 2000 4000 8000 pages.. bring it.. if the comic is good.. it means I have reading material for the next few days/weeks..
Ah, well, I like huge archives - and they do not scare me - the more the better :)
If a story and setting sounds promising and has hooked me with decent art (or in case of fiction a capturing writing style) I will read through any archive - as I did here also :)
For me, archive binging is easy enough. It's actually comics which have a ton of comments which worry me. :P
They may the binge go much, MUCH longer if you read 'em, which is one of the reasons it took me so long to get involved in the comments section for Data Chasers; I knew I needed to skip them if I wanted to get caught up in a realistic time frame. :P
(And, yeah, I am an expert binger. It's a necessity, given as how I want to support as many comics as I can. ;) )
One thing you might try is adding to the description, "Not as intimidating a read as you think it'll be." :P
To be fair, there are also some people who look at a comic and say, "What? Only 27 pages? This'll probably be gone in a year after only 5 more updates, if I'm lucky. Not worth my time to keep up with it."
Though, that said, 200 pages is usually enough to give me enough confidence to read something that seems reasonably well written and has at least passable art.
we knew this was going to hit you all out of left field, wanted it to be a suprise.. but.. yes.. Ada and I have been on again... off again in the past..
for all of you that wonder why I dont try for dr silver, and why it doesnt/cant work.. its simple mathmatics, she prefers her men to be androids/artificial... and to have multiple attachments... I am not an android.. nor do I have multiple attachments... so in the bedroom there is nothing that I can do that would please the good doctor.. out side of the fact that we both have zero interest in having sex with each other.. it would be like trying to have sex with your cousin or aunt or something creepy like that.
I have to say Ada looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL in the first panel. The question she asks (and the answers she is going to get) mean a LOT to her, you can tell. :-)
At least no screaming from Dr Silver or Teedee at the moment. Of course- Doc could run past them in terror like a train whistle. eeeeeeEEEEEeeeeee!!! ( Doppler effect folks)
*with an eyepatch on *trust centcomm YOU DO NOT WANNA KNOW WHY* Tedee will make it through this... She's just had a rather serious.....blow to her view of the universe and it gonna take her friends time and a giant Boot in her sythflesh pert butt to get her through this
Oh sure .. just go ahead and ruin my perfectly inappropiate innuendo.
pffft...
And also, I can't even imagine what TeeDee might do with a boob-pump mechanism ... the force is strong with possibilities on that one, though some of the possibilities would be straight up high octane nightmare fuel.
I didn't say she would control it but I would. And sit back with a Jack and Coke to watch the fun. (from a safe distance of course, I may be crazy but I'm not stupid)
You have to rest too Centcomm. Other wise , um Nightmare fuel! Gives me a chance to start at the beginning to reabsorb everything added since the last time. (oh joy! another sleepless weekend) Keep Smiling :)
I am patiently waiting to see EL loco monoarcho Getting the SNot beat out of him And the remains of the last person who did not listen to that guard guy.....and halo 3 for pc
so you all can be patient and let centy tell the story at her pace
I really like your CG work Centcomm. I also use Daz, more for fun than anything serious until recently, its an awesome program. Do you make your own clothing, props, and scenery? Sorry if that's prying. Love the work.
I do not make a lot of the meshes.. I buy those- I often modify them a lot via the shaping morphs and textures. a lot of the textures I use are custom. I use no presets or pose files. they tend to make the charcters look "stiff" or "dead" i often put togather diffrent pieces from diffrent things to make brand new sets and settings. such as the walls in this page , thats a custom texture. all of the faces.. bodies and such are custom settings ive designed. to keep them from looking like other Charcters. its not prying at all - I have almost a TB of models and stuff for Daz , poser and a lot of object models created in diffrent programs also over the years some other artists have made custom props for the comic as well.
...well, at least until you replace some more pages, Cent...

Edit: first :)

Clearly, you are well trained in archive binging .. so maybe you're ready for a full Monty Python's Flying Circus archive binge then ?
Thare's quite a lot of them. :)
Metamor Keep's total word count is approximately 6,326,475.
There are 546 stories in all, and the average story is 11,587 words long.

I adore you guys .. seriously..
...try to start reading Freefall, I think they have over two thousand strips (approaching 2400)... 8o
Of course, I wasn't reading very many webcomics then either. :-)

Neat. :)
PS: I like her hair :) and how she wears it
I had Marcus under a gag order yesterday to not say anything..
Talk about opposites attracting though. One a warrior and one a healer. :-D
There must be SOMETHING worthwhile under that rough exterior to warrant her attention. I would have bet against it, but... :-D
1000
Grazie Mille!!!
(If you can't tell, I'm LIKING your comic, just a little bit :-D)
[A long and somewhat complex tale!]
[As the Comments so clearly demonstrate!]
Discretion if you please...
[Can't unsee a once seen sight,
Nor unthink a thoughtful thought.
Some things, there are, mere mortals
Should be hesitant to know!]
*nods*
I'm feeling worn out just following today's Comments.
( also glad to see your doing ok - hopfully )
And as for tedee....Okay *borrows a Atlas battlemech's Boots and uses it ti give her that kick int eh pants*
... just **what** is Dr Silver doing to her in there ?
Not a PHYSICAL one a MEta-physical
.. and yet she got blown ?
huh ?
Just loading bigger SLT magazines.
Something like this.
now Tedee when she reads the boob comment.....
pffft...
And also, I can't even imagine what TeeDee might do with a boob-pump mechanism ... the force is strong with possibilities on that one, though some of the possibilities would be straight up high octane nightmare fuel.
no update tonight?
Someone begged me not to ... now I must go look at it.
Now is the (EVIL) CentComm going to jump completely out of this ship over to Kyle? Or do we get to spy in on TeeDee and Dr. Silver first? :-)
Another whole day to wait to find out which way she is going to go, I guess. :-)
I am patiently waiting to see EL loco monoarcho Getting the SNot beat out of him And the remains of the last person who did not listen to that guard guy.....and halo 3 for pc

We WILL be patient because she needs time to get things done. But since we ARE enjoying it, we want MORE! :-)
