Will Connie press charges? I'm guessing she won't. But it's great that she's being *offered* the option!
Centcomm 19th Sep 2013, 5:15 AM edit delete reply

its the principal that matters to Connie.
Don B. 19th Sep 2013, 8:17 AM edit delete reply
From Connie's sympathetic expression, I doubt she'll press charges. She may even try to find some information on Aurelia's family while in New Rome, if possible. From what I've seen of her, she's the helpful type who would try to ease the pain Aurelia's got to be feeling over this. She wouldn't even be doing it to change Aurelia's mind about androids, she'd be doing it because she feels it's the right thing to do. Time will tell.
velvetsanity 19th Sep 2013, 3:04 PM edit delete reply

Her family records neither she nor her family even exist...I bet drekhead's her dad. Or else she's an escaped science project.
KarToon12 19th Sep 2013, 3:42 PM edit delete reply

I'm with you. I'd be more shocked if she DID press charges.
Sheela 19th Sep 2013, 4:28 PM edit delete reply

I think it's more likely that by "expunged" she means that her family has been slaughtered (by androids maybe?).

Offcourse, there's an adventuring party in the bar, who's going to New Roma and poke their noses into archives, which might be able to find out stuff like that - And they could use a local guide that knows the lower parts of society .. such as .. say, a prostitute from New Roma.
Hmmm ...

Oh hey, Admin Frey, did you mention that a bit of civil service might be able to shorten the 90 days probation ?

No ?

Well, could we recommend this guy who goes by the name of Mister Sutherland, we hear he could use an extra hand or two.

He's a right upstanding man, he is.
Pays well too. :)

Tokyo Rose 19th Sep 2013, 3:37 AM edit delete reply

I promise nobody is going to shout "I AM THE LAW!!" at any point here.
Centcomm 19th Sep 2013, 5:17 AM edit delete reply

yes they are - they Ahta pretty much did away with Lawyers and all that. and streamlined the system
Rashala 19th Sep 2013, 1:19 PM edit delete reply

Ahh so they followed the BAck to the future Model for government. *Abolished all lawyers and the legal system is much smoother and faster*

Something tells me there won't be any charges filed against her. The guy that was hitting on TeeDee earlier? Yeah, he might get some charges!

Interesting spin.

First off, I dont disagree with being warned or even fined for, what could be viewed as disturbing the peace with her hate speach, but to be fair, she was physically assaulted as she was trying to leave.

Whether or not she had it coming (and I think she did), does being rude trump physical violence here?

Im asking because this can be a very slippery slope depending on what, if any, legal recourses are available.

Im getting the finality of a Judge Dredd vibe off this scene. Is that about how it works?
velvetsanity 19th Sep 2013, 12:18 AM edit delete reply

Considering that in the trade quarter, "being rude" could potentially cause the equivalent of an international incident?

In this case, I'd say it's about even. And really, no more harm was done by the drone than what's equivalent to a college prank.

As for the fight, *is* a bar, and brawls have a tendency to happen in bars.
Draginbeard 19th Sep 2013, 2:41 AM edit delete reply

Not that it really matters in this instance, but wouldn't attacking someone be the more pronounced method of causing an international incident?

Yes she said some nasty things, but if l were to smack everyone who was ever rude to me, l would still be doing time.

Sorry, not trying to detract from the story or anything, its the GM in me that keeps weighing how my environment is going to react to the often times, dangerous antics my players get up to.
Tokyo Rose 19th Sep 2013, 3:56 AM edit delete reply

Sometimes everybody involved in an altercation can wind up being punished for it.

Was Aurelia physically assaulted? Yep.

Did Aurelia verbally incite hostility? Yep.

What's stacking against her at this point is a pattern of behavior; she's received reprimands in the past for exactly this sort of attitude, and Frey is taking that into account. As she remarks, the freedom to exercise a right doesn't confer immunity to the consequences of doing so. One can say whatever one wants, but if someone takes exception to what's said and retaliates, whether with a formal complaint or a fist to the mouth, that's a consequence one has to be prepared to deal with.

In regards to the question of causing international incident via ass-kicking... visitors to the trade quarter are often independent traders and private individuals rather than official representatives of foreign authority. If an independent outsider starts a minor brawl with an Ahta local, the justicars may simply tag the individual with a fine or other legal consequence, but it's not likely to evolve into a full-on diplomatic conflict. The Ahta authorities can't really control what outsiders do, but they CAN insist that Ahta citizens refrain from making public assholes of themselves.
Centcomm 19th Sep 2013, 5:22 AM edit delete reply

Pretty much. if someone disagrees with a Justicars ruling they can file a claim higher up the chain. however once the "site" justicar makes the ruling and depending on the crime it becomes permanent. about the only thing that isnt aurguable are violent offenses murder, rape and so on. and if they can get enough evidence, if its a Ahta citizen they will have the punishment inflicted. ( up to and including execuition. ) they dont do long term Jail. exile or a bullet are the pretty much final solutions. ( BUT there are only a few crimes that warrant that. )
Sheela 19th Sep 2013, 4:42 PM edit delete reply

It's like ... if you don't want your leg bitten, don't kick the dog.

*eyes feet and bares teeth*

No really ... don't!
mjkj 18th Sep 2013, 11:56 PM edit delete reply

Wow, great page - it really seems she had that coming...

...but Connie saving her might change her prejudices a bit - maybe enough for her to not cause a public scene anymore.
Centcomm 19th Sep 2013, 5:23 AM edit delete reply

well not in the trade quarter... >_<

Well, nothing is ever *totally* black or white, but some things get damn close -- such as Prince Headcase, for example ;-)
antrik 9th Oct 2016, 2:02 AM edit delete reply
Well, she looks like she is almost about to cry; and I feel kinda sorry for her -- but ever so slightly: knowing that it's not because of any actual harm befalling her, but just because a stop is being put on her expressing her bigoted views -- which may be tough on her, but still not something I feel much sympathy for...
