There's no pulling a Teedee on Cent this time.
Sheela 12th Dec 2013, 10:26 PM edit delete reply

Aw, but I'm sure Vinnie would enjoy shooting Centcomm in the face, it's what he's best at after all. :)
Don B. 12th Dec 2013, 10:55 PM edit delete reply
Do robots dream of shooting their electric boss?
cattservant 13th Dec 2013, 12:30 AM edit delete reply

With Proton Beams?
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 12:46 AM edit delete reply

If they're battle mechs ?
Sure, why not ?

Heck, Vinnie probably also wants to shoot that sexy billboard on 5th avenue, and the old rusty truck parked at the steel mill, not to mention the flower pot in front of the police station.

In Vinnie's eyes photoreceptors, everything is a target. :)
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:31 PM edit delete reply

in the case of TD yes...
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:31 PM edit delete reply

No she really didnt like being SHOT in the face.. yes it was a doll but its still annoying.. :D
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 5:48 PM edit delete reply

Ah, but TeeDee liked it .. she liked it a LOT. :)
Aura_Spark 14th Dec 2013, 3:27 AM edit delete reply
I wouldn't get your hopes up too much sheela. I wouldn't be surprised if Cent-Comm had fitted an energy shield around all of her dolls after the TD incident. :(
Rashala 14th Dec 2013, 11:01 PM edit delete reply

Rashala Liked it too... If it was a video I'd be hosting it on NT You tube and probally have a dozen remixes some with laugh tracks. And I bet doly would like it too having seen it
Centcomm 15th Dec 2013, 5:02 PM edit delete reply

LOL it would get a lot of hits :D
cattservant 12th Dec 2013, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

Vinnie makes a convincing messenger.

[I think there is going to be a discussion about the 'dance music' soon!]
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:31 PM edit delete reply

LOL probably
Sheela 12th Dec 2013, 10:23 PM edit delete reply

Centcomm is selling it, but Mira aint buying it.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 8:50 AM edit delete reply

Mira has already given her shovel a big enough work out today. She isn't interested in getting out an even BIGGER shovel to deal with CentComm's shit.
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 10:20 AM edit delete reply

Hrmm, she'd have to hire someone to play garbage collectors then.

... oooooh,VINNIE ! :D
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 1:03 PM edit delete reply

I doubt Vinnie is free to sub-contract out like that Sheela. :-p

Pity, because Vinnie would be VERY good with a big shovel I think. :-)
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:32 PM edit delete reply

remember Vinnie is a MIL-SEC Drone it has no free will of anykind - its a machine pure and simple :D
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:32 PM edit delete reply

Mira .. is going to make a big fuss.. if she has to.. P:D
Stormwind13 14th Dec 2013, 6:29 PM edit delete reply

Mira just needs to head into the Tower and keep marching. Run over anything that gets in her way leaving footprints on everything. Keep going until she finds Calliope. Anything gets too snooty, flash the Platinum access card and keep going. :-) Don't stop and argue with anything or anyone. :-)
Centcomm 15th Dec 2013, 5:02 PM edit delete reply

hehe - we shall see :D
Don B. 12th Dec 2013, 10:53 PM edit delete reply
I've been interested to see how far CentComm (the character) is going to take this. I get the feeling that we'll have to wait as the story will switch to someone else next update because, you know, CentComm (the artist)is evil. That seems to be the majority opinion anyway though I'm not entirely convinced. Seems more a case of cliffhanger drama masquerading as evil.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 9:27 AM edit delete reply

Heresy! :-D CentComm MUST be evil! I mean, she got us all hooked on her comic and then makes us wait to find out what is happening. :-) And is JOYFUL in making us wait, that is EVIL personified Don. :-)
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 10:21 AM edit delete reply

'Tis true.

Both versions of Centcomm are EEEvil !
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:33 PM edit delete reply

Actually - this little drama will play out before we switch views :D so fear not :D
Stormwind13 14th Dec 2013, 7:08 AM edit delete reply

What CentComm is trying to be NICE?!? What is this an attempt to get Santa to visit DESPITE all the evil, CentComm? :-D
Don B. 12th Dec 2013, 11:11 PM edit delete reply
I wanna know what CentComm did to annoy Krystal. TeeDee and Dolly have proven that androids can and will stand up to her if they need to. Krystal's attitude changed rather drastically when Mira read her the riot act about the stalling. Could it be that she's seen enough of CentComms shit and decided to do her job and help Mira this time around? Probably helped a lot that Mira sees androids as people and treats them as such.
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 12:49 AM edit delete reply

IT is like .. a law, that all beucratic people must hate one another, especially if it's someone with more power than themselves - And they don't come much more powerful than Centcomm - The hatred is almost palpable when she walks by an office building! >_<
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 9:29 AM edit delete reply

Hate is an ugly word, Sheela. Despise is more appropriate. :-D
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 9:58 AM edit delete reply

Now, now, you're being politically correct, a term specifically invented by business people.

To us ordinary doggies, 'hate' is the appropiate word. Just like "I hate having to get up early in the morning." is a fitting use for the word.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 11:02 AM edit delete reply

LOL. Accusing me of being PC. :-D The real reason it isn't hate Sheela is that most bureaucrats can't bother to get the energy level up necessary to HATE someone. They have to settle for the energy levels of lesser emotions. :-D
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 11:06 AM edit delete reply

Lies, it doesn't take that much to hate someone!

Actually doing something about it, on the other hand ...
Don B. 13th Dec 2013, 3:37 PM edit delete reply
Hate is easy to generate when dealing with a bureaucracy, I don't imagine that it's much harder when working within one.
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:33 PM edit delete reply

Krystal may not be annoyed at Cent at all.. Shes just doing her job :D
Dragonrider 13th Dec 2013, 12:02 AM edit delete reply

We have a black angel waiting for Mira, hate to say it but, TOLD YOU SO! Next planned stop for Mira is Detention Center until she rots. Calli has no idea Mira is coming any message sent to alert her has been diverted by Centy, and their is only a slight chance Crystal is going to be able to help. Suggest we change Centy's name to Evil-1 or dress her in all black uniform with silver trim, wearing shades, a large pistol on her hip carrying a whip, possibly with lightning bolts as collar flashes.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 9:32 AM edit delete reply

I'm not sure about that, yet Dragonrider. I think she has put in extra security (after the horses have fled the barn). She is going to make it DIFFICULT for anyone to get to Calliope with ill intent (and is paranoid enough to think EVERYONE has ill intent). :-)

So I guess we'll have to see if she is just being extra cautious or if she is actively evil.
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 10:21 AM edit delete reply

A bit of Column A and a bit of Column B, I think.
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:34 PM edit delete reply

Black angel??? where, what?
Stormwind13 14th Dec 2013, 7:12 AM edit delete reply

Dragonrider seems to think CentComm will be unleashing a black angel (or squads of them) to protect Calliope. I was under the impression that black angels were normally there for a given short term mission (like going to retrieve one bratty teenager, kill anyone that gets in the way) not an indeterminate mission (as guard Calliope Taylor from harm).

Guess we will see who is right in the coming days. :-)
cattservant 13th Dec 2013, 12:36 AM edit delete reply

Maybe Krystal is getting that old 'above her pay grade' feeling.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 9:39 AM edit delete reply

I really wish we could HEAR her tone, Cat. Because I got more of the vibe that she had made herself a mental side bet and it had just paid off. :-) Like it was EXPECTED and now that shoe was dropping.

Krystal can help facilitate Mira's visit or knuckle under and help CentComm stall her. My read was that she was going to help Mira, but the actual tone she was speaking in could relay VOLUMES of information. And sadly we can only guess at that. :-7 (And disagree with each other on our interpretation of the dialogue :-) )
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:35 PM edit delete reply

Krystals tone is polite.. Mira is getting annoyed , Alley is just confused and wants to not screw up.
mjkj 13th Dec 2013, 4:01 AM edit delete reply

So, CentComm is trying Mira's patience...

I wonder how soon Mira goes TeeDee on her...

Poor Mira... *hugs her*

Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 9:43 AM edit delete reply

Little hard for Mira to do, mjkj. Mira doesn't have a Laser Pistol handy. :-D

And she doesn't appear to be carrying her toolkit either. And a human physically attacking a doll probably wouldn't be super effective (at least an unagumented human - Max might have a bit more luck at it). :-)
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:35 PM edit delete reply

Dolls are only marginally stronger and more durable than a human. they dont need to be that tough..
Sheela 14th Dec 2013, 6:37 AM edit delete reply

Ah, but can they do an Epic Split ?
Centcomm 14th Dec 2013, 10:18 AM edit delete reply

actually ( i love that vid ) Yes they can do that - due to the flexiblity of Andriod tech - any Andriod can Dolls use the same skeleton and musclature as a Andriod only the brain ( replaced by a small positronic matrix and a Sel-cast Puppet system ) are the main diffrence..
mjkj 16th Dec 2013, 4:25 AM edit delete reply

Well, I believe Mira can disassemble her without a weapon almost as fast as TeeDee did. Maybe she has a sonic screwdriver to help her ... (I am sure that does not count as a weapon...)
KarToon12 13th Dec 2013, 6:02 AM edit delete reply

Cent-Comm should change her name to "Miss Stalling." XD
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 7:27 AM edit delete reply

I still think it's quite possible that Dolly has planned for a contingincy such as this.
She's an old android after all, with lots and lots of experience in exactly this kind of stuff.
Dragonrider 13th Dec 2013, 8:18 AM edit delete reply

It would be neat if Mira had taken the circuitry out of the collar she had at her shop, miniaturized it to a slap and stick patch and could pop it on the doll leaving Centy to helplessly fume and rant only.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 9:50 AM edit delete reply

Interesting thought Dragonrider, but I'm not sure an inhibitor collar would work on CentComm's doll. I don't think they have the M.A.C.C.S. that is the target of the inhibitor collar.

Now if Mira had a scrambler that would knock down a Sel-Cast signal in the area she could probably disable it for a time. :-) At least cut it off from the AI's direct control.
Marcus Ramesy 13th Dec 2013, 4:34 PM edit delete reply

you seem to forget... centcom is never helpless, she has the defences of an entire city at her disposal.. the dolls are just the HID (human interface device) for those that dont want to talk to the air, or walls, or over a comlink. all she would have to do is order vinni to remove the target, or NTPD to arrest her.. or bring down the wrath of god and have more drones and mill-sec show up
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 4:52 PM edit delete reply

Never said CentComm would be helpless or that it would be a viable LONG term solution, Marcus. It might be effective to get her past the roadblock and to Calliope though, which would suit Mira's purpose. :-)

And Calliope, whether she realizes it or not, has the authority to stand down ALL the forces CentComm can summon up. CentComm isn't god (or even a goddess :-D), just the uncrowned crystal queen of Ilium. And CentComm's wrath might be less than a Mother's wrath (or two of them) descending upon her when protecting their children (Dolly protecting Calliope AND Lynn, Calliope protecting Lynn). :-)
Dragonrider 13th Dec 2013, 5:44 PM edit delete reply

@Stormwind that's the point in all this Centcomm doesn't want Calli to find out just how much power she actually has, and she is afraid Dolly is going to tell her in the message as well as tell her about the sabotage to the flyer she was given to use.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 9:52 AM edit delete reply

Dolly is extremely capable and knows all the players very well, Sheela. I wouldn't be shocked if she had some contingencies in place (in fact I would be if she DIDN'T), but what they might be and how effective they are is another matter. We will have to wait and see as the EVIL CentComm (artist) reveals the moves and counter-moves. :-)
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 10:07 AM edit delete reply

True, true ... but I'm sure a small EMP grenade to her face, would work wonders on Centy's dolls. :D
Dragonrider 13th Dec 2013, 10:34 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, but it would mess with Vinnie and she doesn't want to hurt him. Also if the message is on electronic media, as I suspect, it would be wiped out also.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 11:05 AM edit delete reply

I think that Mira has the message memorized. It probably isn't real complicated, especially for someone of Mira's intelligence. Make it a whole lot harder for CentComm to extract or modify. :-)
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:37 PM edit delete reply

Actually Vinnie is Hardened against EMP strikes .. they MIGHT do damage but they might do nothing..
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 10:40 AM edit delete reply

True Sheela. Sadly I don't think Mira has one handy. I mean Vinnie just scanned her for weapons and came up empty. And ANY grenade would be considered a weapon by Vinnie. :-D Heck a WATER balloon would probably be considered a weapon by Vinnie. :-D
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 11:07 AM edit delete reply

Ah, but Vinnie is probably carrying a few, all she has to do is to get some from him.

Easy-peasy. :)
Dragonrider 13th Dec 2013, 11:16 AM edit delete reply

Sheela, think again for Vinnie to use those as a weapon it would amount to Blue on Blue by taking out Officer Allie and it would equate to suicide for him to use them, they'd take him out too. Again the pulse would wipe out any electronic message Dolly sent. Nice idea but I think our hope is for Ray to come up behind the doll and take her out with a hand weapon from behind, and hope there is only one doll in there and not Centcomm err Evil-1 actual.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 11:27 AM edit delete reply

Actually the best bet would be to send Calliope down. Tell them all to stand down, but not sure anyone KNOWS to do that yet. :-)
velvetsanity 13th Dec 2013, 11:48 AM edit delete reply

I wouldn't be surprised if Dolly called Calli directly, just to let her know that a messenger is en-route, at this point *expecting* Cent-Comm to actively try to prevent it (or at a minimum intercept it, which she's obviously attempting by meeting Mira herself), given the revelation of the plot with Ceci. And she probably told Mira to be as absolutely, ridiculously stubborn about getting the message directly to Calli and Calli alone, *in person*, as necessary to ensure she gets it.
Sheela 13th Dec 2013, 1:57 PM edit delete reply

Most modern military hardware of today is already EMP resistant, I doubt they'd stop doing that in the future, so Vinnie is most likely allright as long as he doesn't take it straight to the face.
Same goes for electronic message media, they'd probably be quite resilient too.

As far as Centcomm's dolls however, they are not meant for combat, and EMP proofing is costly, especially if you don't really need it - After all, if one goes down to an EMP, she can just send a combat model (a black angel) to handle the matter. Though that could be fraught with issues in Helius tower, as Calliope would almost certainly get mixed up in such an affair.

Yes indeed, and as Velvetsanity points out, Dolly just might have taken that into account.

And boy, I bet Mira can be *very* stubborn when she puts her mind to it. :D
Dragonrider 13th Dec 2013, 2:23 PM edit delete reply

@sheela remember that Ceci IS a "Black Angel" so I'm betting the doll there is a black angel also, the Black Angels have additional combat packages, enhanced hand to hand skills, built in plasma casters and the desire to kill everything that is in front of them, they look like the bubble gum twits with the pink hair and big boobs not like a soldier, if Vinnie and Allie are Emp proof then the Angel would be also. It stands to reason Centy would send a Black Angel for security duty at Helios Towers.
Don B. 13th Dec 2013, 3:44 PM edit delete reply
Oooooh...a distraction. A viable option usually but I have to wonder just how distractable an AI of CentComms calibre is. And that's considering all the shit going on since the kidnapping.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 6:13 PM edit delete reply

Just have to find the RIGHT shiny to interest CentComm, Don. :-D
Stormwind13 15th Dec 2013, 7:59 AM edit delete reply

A distinct possibility velvet. We know there is apparently at least ONE clandestine communication line into Helios Tower; however, with CentComm camping out in the tower, it might be hard/impossible to use even that one.

I figure Dolly sent Mira at least partly because she didn't trust electronic communications. Somewhere they have a leak and Dolly wanted to avoid that. I also think sending Mira was a message to CentComm, putting her on notice that Dolly wasn't going to put up with CentCommm's high handiness any longer.

I don't think Dolly (being a guardian) would pick someone like Mira to SACRIFICE. Dolly firmly believes that Mira will survive her mission, or she wouldn't have sent her. CentComm might delay her, but Mira is a VERY determined young woman. Mira isn't going to stay stymied long.
Centcomm 13th Dec 2013, 5:35 PM edit delete reply

highlander55 13th Dec 2013, 6:53 PM edit delete reply

After reading everyone's comments they all have some merit. My comment is: The player not mentioned in this is Tokyo Rose. She could have jacked a Cent Comm doll to make sure Mira delivers the message. Cent Comm may not know the doll is active if Rose disabled the locator, activation, (or whatever). This would Reeally piss of Centy but not knowing about Rose except as whispers in the Network it would be too late for anybody to stop Rose from helping Mira. After her task is completed abandon the doll and no trace left to prove her role in this little exercise.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 7:02 PM edit delete reply

No, no highlander. Have Rose hijack a warbot instead. "TeeDee sends her greetings," it says to the doll before blowing it away. :-D Confusion to the enemy... or the CentComm, which could be the same thing in this case. :-D
highlander55 13th Dec 2013, 8:10 PM edit delete reply
That would get TeeDee in a whole world of trouble though.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2013, 8:16 PM edit delete reply

And what, CentComm is going to RECALL her from her current mission? :-D When the mission is over, if TeeDee is a survivor, then CentComm could discover that TeeDee had NOTHING to do with it (though she probably would LIKE it) and get off the hook. :-)
Dragonrider 13th Dec 2013, 8:25 PM edit delete reply

I doubt Rose would hack one of Centy's Angels, I still say it makes no sense for this to be only a doll, it's there for security because of the kidnapping and because Dollys disable unit went off line so a last line to stop a message to Calli, so a Black Angel makes sense. (Of course I have been wrong before.)

Come to think of it using Mira as a Quaker Cannon makes perfect sense if Dolly sent the message by another means, respected mercenary guard, his number two, a Luna Agent or by shielded direct tight beam to Minx for relay to Calli.
Don B. 13th Dec 2013, 9:13 PM edit delete reply
Dolly has something going on with this besides sending Mira with a message. If Dolly had any remaining illusions as to what CentComm is capable of, they were shattered when Cent brought up the terminate contingency for Lynn. Dolly doesn't go around punching people in the face for no good reason. She's not stupid either and has been doing security for a looooong time. If Mira is the sole means of getting the message to Calliope, I'll be quite surprised.
Stormwind13 14th Dec 2013, 7:19 AM edit delete reply

I think there is something going on with Mira's delivery of the message. I think it might be PART of the message in fact.

Exactly what the message is Dolly is delivering though, I'm not sure. Too many possibilities. Plus I don't know all the Byzantine maneuvers that have been going on for the last 5 or 6 decades. :-)
Dragonrider 14th Dec 2013, 9:42 AM edit delete reply

The one thing we do know for certain is Evil-1 err Centcomm has not given Calli all the knowledge she should have had. I'm sure Helios Taylor never meant for AI's to function in the Dictatorial fashion she has achieved. She is much too concerned with maintaining her personal power and has actually achieved a level that Nova Roma is afraid AI's will reach so therefore bans Androids and all AI functions.
Centcomm 14th Dec 2013, 10:19 AM edit delete reply

Cent-Comm is exactly why Roma Hates Andriods and AIS systems.
cattservant 14th Dec 2013, 11:59 AM edit delete reply

"Every form of refuge..."
Dragonrider 14th Dec 2013, 12:36 PM edit delete reply

Thank You, Evil-1 errrr Centcomm
Stormwind13 14th Dec 2013, 2:58 PM edit delete reply

And possibly why ALL sentients will come to hate AI's... I mean, Skynet... err, CentComm is just EVIL. Planning on doing humanity in (at least according to the movies). :-D
Highlander55 14th Dec 2013, 3:55 PM edit delete reply
The tech in this time is advanced to a point that Mira could be carrying a simple letter with the information and no scan would show up if written on a piece of in her clothing. That would be sneaky of Dolly. Especially if Mira suggested it. <I am thinking out of the box>
Don B. 14th Dec 2013, 4:36 PM edit delete reply
When I started reading Data Chasers, It seemed clear to me the Dex the Douchebag was the bad guy in all of this. Aeneas made a comment some time ago that has since made me rethink that. It was the "uncrowned queen" crack about CentComm. It looks more and more that Emperor Crazyman is actually a pawn and cats paw. How DID he discover Lynn's plans? It's not like Roma and New Troy are buddies is it. As a matter of fact, it seems Roma has been isolated for some time now. Is CentComm a rogue AI that is unwilling to relinquish power? Yes, I know, no spoilers and I'm not looking for any. I just needed to put on my crazy conspiracy hat for a bit.
Dragonrider 14th Dec 2013, 5:34 PM edit delete reply

@Highlander55 No you just want a shower scene of Mira with no clothes on, Go You!!!!!
@Don B Take the crazy hat off son, get an Atta Boy Cookie and move to the head of the class.
Stormwind13 14th Dec 2013, 5:40 PM edit delete reply

Well *I* wouldn't mind a shower scene for Mira either! :-D Keeping clean is VERY important. :-)
Dragonrider 14th Dec 2013, 6:55 PM edit delete reply

And Calli couldn't read the message until Mira took her clothes off and gave them to Calli. Of course as soon as she got her clothes off she'd be chasing Vinnie all over Helios Towers screaming, "Come here hot stuff I wanna have your babies".
highlander55 14th Dec 2013, 8:37 PM edit delete reply

@Dragonrider.. Why not! Seen most of the others Au Natural. O^O
Sheela 15th Dec 2013, 11:06 AM edit delete reply

She carries the message as a tattoo on her inner thighs !
Highlander55 16th Dec 2013, 4:42 PM edit delete reply
Or her other lips. Talk about speech impediment! Sheesh!
Centcomm 16th Dec 2013, 6:04 PM edit delete reply

LOL ok that was funny :D
cattservant 13th Dec 2013, 7:53 PM edit delete reply

Let us not forget
That our dear Dynamic Duo
Have a well established history
Of Plots asymmetrical and unexpected!
Dragonrider 14th Dec 2013, 7:47 PM edit delete reply

So far all we have seen are Government employees and contractors obviously either pro Centcomm or neutral. The actions, up till now, of Centcomm have been those of a semi-benevolent ruler, however this last few pages other factors have been brought to the surface and an entire new face is now showing. Is there an underground movement that is Anti-Centcomm if so, who funds them, besides the obvious Nova Roma, and how active are they?
cattservant 14th Dec 2013, 8:38 PM edit delete reply

And how much can they get away with?

[Or to put it another way;
How many Kilograms of contraband NaCl are seized each year in New Troy?]
Dragonrider 14th Dec 2013, 9:03 PM edit delete reply

Don B. 14th Dec 2013, 9:11 PM edit delete reply
I never even considered a New Troy underground. I don't know why. There is always a group (freedom fighters, terrorist bastards, talkers, fighters and outright loonies) raging against the machine. In this case literally.
cattservant 14th Dec 2013, 9:23 PM edit delete reply

And legitament Loonies to!
Stormwind13 14th Dec 2013, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

Well Krystal as much as admitted that there is a 'resistance' movement of some kind. Those dissatisfied with the system and wanting to replace it with something where THEY are on top? :-) Or are they in the pay of Nova Roma to destabilize New Troy? Or could there be ANOTHER reason they oppose CentComm?

Stay tuned for, As The CentComm (and Rose) Plots, for answers to questions you don't even know you have (yet). :-D
cattservant 14th Dec 2013, 9:38 PM edit delete reply

"...asymmetrical and unexpected!"
Stormwind13 15th Dec 2013, 8:06 AM edit delete reply

Yes Cat, very asymmetrical and unexpected. :-)
Sheela 15th Dec 2013, 11:09 AM edit delete reply

Even if there isn't a "resistance army" ready to deliver you the 'Red Rose' or make you 'Cry the Blue Tear' .. or anything like that.

There will most definately be some smugglers, smuggling salt 'n' peppar into New Troy. People like Mr. Black. :)
Centcomm 15th Dec 2013, 1:32 PM edit delete reply

hehe there is a black market :D
Highlander55 14th Dec 2013, 9:46 PM edit delete reply
Many forget those on the edge of society. Remember the Fringers mentioned by Connie on Page 734? They could have something to do with or at least help others work to bring down the IA hierarchy. Perfect place to lay low and bring about the downfall of a society that keeps them in the shadows.
Dragonrider 14th Dec 2013, 10:02 PM edit delete reply

Why did it take us all this long to think of this?
Don B. 14th Dec 2013, 10:36 PM edit delete reply
There's an awful lot of stuff going on in this comic. I'm beginning to think I need a spread sheet to keep track of it all. First of all, consider how many people are involved. There's a lot characters in this story. Then consider who is doing or has done what to who and there you have it.
Don B. 14th Dec 2013, 10:40 PM edit delete reply
Also, we have a tendency to go off on tangents, get silly and generally have fun in the comments.
Centcomm 14th Dec 2013, 11:48 PM edit delete reply

and we adrore the sillyness in the comments and it sometimes takes a LOT of effort to not say anything that would spoil the story. :D

Or how to figure out a way to say something that makes us think we are off track but not spoil the story in the process.

I have little doubt there are many who would enjoy 'rearranging' the power structure of New Troy; however, I don't think the Fringers can be major players (whatever they believe). Somewhere, someone has MAJOR penetration into New Troy's establishment. Someone knew that Lynn was going off on her own with enough lead time to get gutters into position to intercept her.

I can't see it being the Fringers, because well they are on the FRINGE. They would get noticed if they came uptown, they would lack the equipment and expertise with equipment to truly be effective in a data snatch of that level, I think. :-)
Dragonrider 15th Dec 2013, 9:09 AM edit delete reply

I don't think it's the fringers either my comment was why didn't we think about a movement before now?
Sheela 15th Dec 2013, 11:15 AM edit delete reply

Well, so far we haven't seen much to the "ordinary people", so it's hard to form an opinion on any of them, including the fringers.

That said, it doesn't seem like the town of New Troy is particularly opressed as such, so there wouldn't be a particularly big need for people to rebel, which is usually what drives groups like that.

However, groups from other cities lobbying and having secret agents inside of New Troy because they want what they have .. now, *that* is a very likely story.

Heck, Douchebag probably have several agents there already.
Dragonrider 15th Dec 2013, 12:04 PM edit delete reply

The only "Ordinary person" I can think of would be the AI hating Dock Supervisor, the AI hating sociopath that had Minx and possibly the nurse at ADA's recovery unit. The rest have been androids, are there any real people in town?
Sheela 15th Dec 2013, 12:30 PM edit delete reply

I would group androids under "ordinary people", as they're definately persons, even if not human.

That said, even if counting the androids as 'people', most of them have been somewhat oddball too.
In short, we simply haven't seen much to the 'ordinary people' so far.

The Ordninary people in New troy tend to fall into 2 groups - people that live in there homes and buildings for thier entire lives. ( Some of these buildings have hundreds of levels and rooms. along with shops and other functions there is litterally NO reason most people have to leave there "home" building. some do not even leave the info net being hardconnected to the virtual world of the net.
Dragonrider 15th Dec 2013, 4:06 PM edit delete reply

So what you are saying is the majority of the inhabitants of New Troy are agoraphobic vegetables or close to it and less than 10% are actually active humans. Centcomm has created a society that is totally dependent of her from conception, In Vitro, gestation, post natal and educational with no need to physically interact with other sapient beings. I would assume this is a large welfare state also. Something tells me if Douchey weren't 3 blocks around the bend chasing rabbits down rat holes I might back his side in this mess.

Whomever set this in motion had a full palace revolution in mind along with totally changing the culture of this society 180 degrees. Whomever we are chasing here suddenly began wearing a hat that is about 50 shades of black lighter than it was.
Centcomm 15th Dec 2013, 5:01 PM edit delete reply

To be perfectly fair its more they dont HAVE to leave- the buildings have everything a person needs from birth to death. including various ways to be active. think Arcology
Sheela 15th Dec 2013, 6:11 PM edit delete reply

Frankly, there's nothing new to this, there's many people in the real world that never leave the city-area they were born in, except perhaps for a vacation or two.

The vast majority of their time is spendt in their own little corner of the city. I would go so far as to say that in the developed westernworld, we'd be looking at up to about 20-30% of all people currently alive.
Dragonrider 15th Dec 2013, 7:33 PM edit delete reply

What about social interactions with other people? They live possibly perform some function while in their building, buy clothes, groceries on the net. Do they have bridge clubs, movie groups, sewing circles?
Centcomm 15th Dec 2013, 8:02 PM edit delete reply

Pretty much the same things we do today work - live and play all in the same building or Virtual Communte to other companys - a lot of New Troy companys also provide living quarters for familys and such and employ everyone who lives there.
Dragonrider 15th Dec 2013, 8:14 PM edit delete reply

Just trying to get a more complete picture of the Datachasers world. How about the anti Centcomm groups how many and how active?
Stormwind13 15th Dec 2013, 8:37 PM edit delete reply

I have a feeling that will come out via the comic, Dragonrider. :-)
Dragonrider 15th Dec 2013, 8:59 PM edit delete reply

Can't blame me for trying.
Centcomm 15th Dec 2013, 9:14 PM edit delete reply

nope not at all Dragonrider :D
Highlander55 15th Dec 2013, 3:43 PM edit delete reply
I was thinking the Fringers were helping others as some had been part of New Troy until "lost" and ended up in the outer areas. They would have contacts inside as well as information depending on what they did for a living. Security, software, transport, ext.
Centcomm 15th Dec 2013, 5:01 PM edit delete reply

they will be touched on at some point I promise :D
