So, Dolly truly is family. Doing something that Calliope couldn't do without pain. Though Calliope is inflicting that pain on herself now.
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 2:57 AM edit delete reply

Yep... Dolly is.. well Dolly. You will get a better understanding of her as this goes on.
Sheela 6th Jan 2014, 3:27 PM edit delete reply

I don't think she could choose not to help Lynn out like that, it's such an ingrained personality trait that she might as well try to stop the planet from rotating, it would be a less futile effort.

Not that she's want to stop being such a caring android, but it really goes down deep to her very core.
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 4:18 PM edit delete reply

Your right.. it does go to her very core. she started off pretty duty oriented and takes herself to task over any mistake. Its the reason Athena's parents picked up Dollys contract. She WAS and is.. the perfect choice.
Dragonrider 5th Jan 2014, 9:22 PM edit delete reply

One Cotton Pickin Minute Here Why aren'y Calli's parents here? They're still alive and as advanced as medicine is I can't believe they are senile in a nursing home. Evil-1 has deliberately with held the info from them and why hasn't Calli contacted them. Or are they so wrapped up in what a wonderful world this is they can't be bothered? Lynn is their grandchild after all, or was the marriage so far out of their social class they disowned Calli and Lynn?
Stormwind13 5th Jan 2014, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

Athena as previously shown seemed to be a bit... simple, Dragonrider. So Calliope might not want to worry her.

Then too, CentComm (evil as she is) requested that she keep the number of people that know of the kidnapping to a minimum. Calliope overrode that in informing Kyle, but she might have agreed to not inform her Mom, Athena. Especially if Athena is a bit limited and might react poorly to the information, aggravating an already bad situation. :-7
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 2:56 AM edit delete reply

Okay Ive not said anything yet. But I want to step in here - Calli's Parents are alive and well AND they are OFF planet. ( on vacation ) as for why they have not been informed ill say this much its not a deep dark plot - :D
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 8:22 AM edit delete reply

Yes it is, CentComm... Space is VERY deep and very dark. And we KNOW you have plots in the works, so deep, dark and plots are afoot. :-D
Dragonrider 6th Jan 2014, 9:27 AM edit delete reply

OK so Grandma-San is a major powerhouse in Diplomatic Circles, I'm loosing something in translation here. To stupid little me the folowing facts are glaring:
A)Luna is aware of Lynns abduction, Eye In The Sky remember.Luna keeps close eye on all things Terran, especially something coming out of Nova Roma.
B)Grandmama has contacts that allow her to persuade Luna to gently Explain to Douchebag, either return Lynn unharmed or loose Luna Tech Support and Markets. (Its called Embargo)
C.) Luna is loosing respect for New Troy and her former Ambassador because they are to proud or stupid to take advantage of all resources.
D.) Lynn is their only Granddaughter for crying out loud. Vacation schmacation they should have been notified immediately.
E.) Above all else refer to D.
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 2:44 PM edit delete reply

yes Luna is aware of the Abduction but they can/will NOT take sides. And Athena is retired. No longer active as a diplomat. and She has not been informed as of yet - remember it has not been that long. and they are HOPING to resolve this quickly.
Stormwind13 7th Jan 2014, 6:15 PM edit delete reply

And it costs SOOOOO MUCH to call the moon, those Luna-Com charges really add up! CentComm already felt the burn from the COLLECT ransom call (the Prince has a special place in HE!! waiting for him for that stunt), so she is trying to save some money. :-D
Tokyo Rose 6th Jan 2014, 3:06 AM edit delete reply

I don't want to launch a debate about child development and psychology, but let me say that Athena isn't actually simple. She was one of those kids who has trouble learning in what we'll call "traditional" ways, and her extremely overprotective parents resisted advice from educators to find alternative methods, as they didn't like hearing anything that sounded remotely like "Your precious angel's developmentally challenged".

Dolly, being with Athena 24/7, basically did an end-run around the parents. She observed the kid closely, consulted with the right people to find out what Athena really needed, and did the job herself.

Athena has enjoyed a long and impressive career as a major diplomat, mostly as New Troy's ambassador to Luna. I think I just gave away where she and her husband are vacationing. :D
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 8:20 AM edit delete reply

Damn, and here I was thinking they were relaxing on the Helios Space Hotel built on (or in the shadow of) 2000 BD19. That would be off-planet and OUT of this world. :-D

And YAY Dolly. Too bad our education system isn't so... Taylor-ed. :-D
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 4:46 PM edit delete reply

Oh so .. true ... :D

This whole segment is going to change a lot of things and perspectives :D

Sounds like my life, except I never had anyone like Dolly. I always felt broken, and I got tons of lectures from my parents, whenever my grades slipped. I was either "too lazy" or I "didn't care".

My problems didn't end, when I graduated. Work was like slogging through knee deep mud. It wasn't till after my son was diagnosed, that I realized that I had a legitimate illness, and finally got treated.

I urge all parents to get their kids tested, if there's any sign that they're struggling at school. Good grades do not necessarily mean that a kid is okay. They could be putting themselves through hell, to get high marks and please their parents.

Several decades ago, my parents knew nothing about the kinds of disability that I have. Parents today have no such excuse. If they fail to get their kids tested, making them live with disabilities like mine, without treatment, I consider that child abuse.
Someone's Ed 4th Jun 2017, 7:41 AM edit delete reply
Ditto this. My poor grades in school wasn't that I couldn't learn. I routinely did my brother's homework, who was four years older than I, for fun, until he found out and started being more protective of his school books. Because I'm sure it stung to come home with a homework assignment with a C grade, and then find out your kid brother did that same homework without attending your class, just reading the textbook, and got nearly 90% of it right. The stuff at my grade level was dreadfully boring. I was kept from skipping grades because my teachers felt I needed to socialize more. But why the fuck would I want to socialize with the dullards in my class? In hindsight, not socializing much with the dullards in my class kept me from getting beat up. My classmates saw my homework grades, assumed I was struggling like them. Test and quiz grades were usually easy enough to hide. Also, I didn't always bother so much with them either, once the teacher knew I could do them and I knew I didn't have a chance to move on except with the rest of my class. Not that I flubbed tests and quizzes, but I did certainly target 'second highest' grade a fair amount.

Of course, I wasn't well-adjusted. While I didn't have the exact issues that Athena exhibited, I can empathize. And appreciate. My first girlfriend probably renamed me at least half a dozen times - and I certainly didn't complain.

Ah we understand this is what is going on while Mira confronts Centcomm
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 2:58 AM edit delete reply

Correct - this is getting closer and closer to Mira/Cents interaction.
Stormwind13 5th Jan 2014, 9:46 PM edit delete reply

Well we knew Lynn dyed her hair, but now we get to see the natural color. So she is a blonde. :-)
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 2:58 AM edit delete reply

Yep this is Little Lynn ( it was a pain to regress her down to this age and try to keep her similar >_< )
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 8:13 AM edit delete reply

You need to get Acme's Regression beam (dammit, can't find a youtube of Bugs Bunny & Marvin the Martian showing it off), CentComm... Then it is very easy to regress someone. :-D
cattservant 5th Jan 2014, 10:37 PM edit delete reply

Yes, complex!

Draginbeard 5th Jan 2014, 10:53 PM edit delete reply

Dolly is starting to look more as we know her, but the skin tone of those hands, the color of dead meat, are freaking me out a little.
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 2:59 AM edit delete reply

its actually a plastic shader - but yeah i can see how it could look very creepy
Sheela 6th Jan 2014, 3:31 PM edit delete reply

Maybe make it a bit more metallic/shiny so you don't hit uncanney valley with the hands ?
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 4:04 PM edit delete reply

I actually "intended" to hit the UC with her. She *is* artifical ( in this body anyway ) :D
Stormwind13 7th Jan 2014, 6:19 PM edit delete reply

LOL Draginbeard. And here I was thinking she was wearing white gloves to handle her offering to his memory. Didn't look at that close enough. :-D
mjkj 6th Jan 2014, 3:17 AM edit delete reply

So cute...

Little Lynn is quite sharp and Dolly is quite the teacher.

I wonder how Calliope did come to that video - and who recorded it...
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 8:25 AM edit delete reply

Dolly probably ordered it made. Probably as standard security for an important personage like Lynn, mjkj. If there was ever an issue there would be a RECORD of what happened so proper responses could be made.
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 4:05 PM edit delete reply

Dolly is a incessant log person .. then again so are most New Troy citizens..
mjkj 7th Jan 2014, 7:25 PM edit delete reply

Ah, I guess that is a hovercam then that hovers nearby and films you.

Nice invention...
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 7:37 PM edit delete reply

Those are in use as well - Although this footage is more "internal flashback" from the bland single POV security cam the angles and such are for the readers benefit
mjkj 8th Jan 2014, 4:33 AM edit delete reply

A, I was wondering there - thank you for the consideration :)
velvetsanity 6th Jan 2014, 7:43 AM edit delete reply

Love Dolly's expression in the last panel
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 8:31 AM edit delete reply

I love how ALL of this is done. Little Lynn was adorable. :-)

I also have to give kudos for whomever picked the white rose, very appropriate. :-)

And despite being on a binge, Calliope seems to be incredibly coherent. Synth doesn't seem to be worth much for getting blotto. Calliope should have gone with Dolly to Joleet if she wanted to forget for awhile. Sure worked on Dolly! :-D
KarToon12 6th Jan 2014, 8:36 AM edit delete reply

If this is the past, why does Dolly's face look more like her human version from now? (I mostly mean the human hair, and not the "plastic chunks" (for lack of a better word) that she started out with at the beginning of the comic?
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 8:44 AM edit delete reply

Probably because this is post-Fallon, KarToon. From what was said, Dolly was damaged by the firefight with the gutters.

When Calliope put her back together, I imagine she 'improved' Dolly quite a bit. Made Dolly more human than she had been before, so she would be even more 'family' than she had been before.
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 9:10 AM edit delete reply

Um yeah about Dollys looks - Yes her looks was changed mainly becuase the plastic chunks hair looked SO horrible So adaptions were made ( we can call it a sub adpation of Dolly :D )

Also this version of Dolly would have used synth-flesh - a plastic subsititute for human skin.
KarToon12 8th Jan 2014, 6:15 PM edit delete reply

Ah, I see now. Thanks. :)
rfaramir 6th Jan 2014, 10:10 AM edit delete reply
It's good to see that at a young age she understood the basic underpinning of all morality: "Do not do unto others what you do not want done unto you." (The Silver Rule)

She knows it's wrong of the bad guys to want to initiate aggression against her when she knows she's done nothing wrong to them.
Dragonrider 6th Jan 2014, 1:05 PM edit delete reply

@rfaramir I thought it was, "Do Unto Others First...Then Split Before They Can Recover".
cattservant 6th Jan 2014, 1:12 PM edit delete reply

Isn't that the Brass Rule?
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 1:32 PM edit delete reply

Dragonrider, if you do it RIGHT then you have all the time you want. They aren't RECOVERING. :-)

And the one I'm familiar with is, "Do unto others..." ::BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM:: "...before they do unto you." :-)
Dragonrider 6th Jan 2014, 2:07 PM edit delete reply

Actually these all come under Murphy's Rules of Combat.
1. Do Unto Others First...Then Split Before They Can Recover.
2. You win when the other guy dies for his country.
3. When the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is no longer your friend.
4. This side towards the enemy does NOT belong on your side of the Claymore.
5. All Human Resource problems can be solved with proper application of C4, detonator and timer.
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 2:16 PM edit delete reply

Yep thats a lesson Dolly made sure she learned. :D
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 3:20 PM edit delete reply

Which one? Or all of them, CentComm? :-D
Kanela 6th Jan 2014, 1:34 PM edit delete reply

sniff ;_;
Centcomm 6th Jan 2014, 2:16 PM edit delete reply

I know right? :(
Stormwind13 6th Jan 2014, 3:18 PM edit delete reply

It is very poignant. Tugs at the strings of the heart (if you have one at least).
Rashala 7th Jan 2014, 6:33 PM edit delete reply

*rashala's brain explodes as Realization strikes*

The Taylors always carry their own cause their DNA has as Centy said the keys tot he kingdom. But I also bet that DNA also Has Centy's well override the one she cannot Bypass. And the real reason they Carry their own children rather than let the Ovarium Do it is because It keeps Centcomm FRom scanning the Unborn child locating the DNA And REMOVING that sequence so it is not passed down and thus removing her last threat. It probally is encoded in the taylor DNA in such a way that Any tampering AFTER a certain point in the childs development would cause .......well Serious problems/death or worse would trigger centy;s own self destruct for trying to remove it.
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 6:56 PM edit delete reply

*faceplams* Or ... it could just be a little family tradition that is trying to instill a bit of "humanity" into New Troys "Chrome and Glass" life. :D
Stormwind13 7th Jan 2014, 6:58 PM edit delete reply

Of course the (EVIL) CentComm would say that. :-D

Trying to misdirect people from the TRUE evil in the world, herself! :-D
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 7:12 PM edit delete reply

*Headbash desk* >_<
Stormwind13 7th Jan 2014, 7:15 PM edit delete reply

I got her, I got her! :-D
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 7:37 PM edit delete reply

yes.. yes you did >_<
highlander55 7th Jan 2014, 8:24 PM edit delete reply

Is it me or is the name New Troy an inside joke for New Toy? Just thinking out loud!
velvetsanity 7th Jan 2014, 8:43 PM edit delete reply

Nah, the whole comic's a play on the story of Troy. Wonder who the Trojan Horse is... ^_~
Stormwind13 26th Jan 2014, 11:07 AM edit delete reply
