I am particularly pleased with this section, in that I think we managed to capture the way little kids can ask questions that range from the profound to the illogical. Often from one sentence to the next. I also think we conveyed that Dolly is totally used to fielding these questions with a minimum of "Because" (or "Because I Said So").

Also, Li'l Lynn is adorable.

Sounds like Lynn plans on living forever, at this age most think they are invulnerable. Don't think we realize our mortality until about 25 or 30.
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 9:11 PM edit delete reply

Sadly Lynn has learned that people are not invunerable. but she sure wishes they were..
Stormwind13 7th Jan 2014, 9:09 PM edit delete reply

Well, that is the way a child looks at it. And Dolly being the obedient guardian, she will do everything in her power to follow her charge's commands. :-)
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 9:12 PM edit delete reply

I think you will find Dollys follow up to this intresting :D
Stormwind13 7th Jan 2014, 9:15 PM edit delete reply

Can hardly wait! :-D
velvetsanity 7th Jan 2014, 9:20 PM edit delete reply

Looking forward to it!
jamie59 7th Jan 2014, 9:24 PM edit delete reply

Dolly's walking a fine line in a mine field.
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 9:51 PM edit delete reply

She is.. but what parent hasnt...
Sheela 7th Jan 2014, 10:45 PM edit delete reply

It's a classic response from a child "you're not allowed to die", gods but they can be egoistical. :D
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 11:46 AM edit delete reply

yep .. they can be ...
Sheela 8th Jan 2014, 5:28 PM edit delete reply

Still adorable, though. :)
JacobJSebastian 7th Jan 2014, 11:20 PM edit delete reply

*announcer voice* Please, Centcomm, tell us more about this Con of Darkness! or something... :)
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 11:25 PM edit delete reply

>_< There is a link for those that want to check it out..
JacobJSebastian 7th Jan 2014, 11:32 PM edit delete reply

well, SOMEONE had to act interested. Maybe I will see you there! :D
Sheela 8th Jan 2014, 1:00 AM edit delete reply

Heh, good job on being interested. :D

Alas, I live on the other side of the big pond, so not going there myself.
Stormwind13 8th Jan 2014, 3:59 AM edit delete reply

They have planes, Sheela. You could jump on one and get there. :-D

Sadly, I don't have the time off to get there. I would LOVE to get to Phoenix, and get out of the deep freeze. :-p
Sheela 8th Jan 2014, 7:13 AM edit delete reply

Planes are expensive though and I don't have the money.
Stormwind13 9th Jan 2014, 6:01 PM edit delete reply

Well there is always stowing away... I mean it worked for the little boy that went to Vegas (so I'm wondering just how LITTLE he really was... Midget cosplaying as a child? :-D) Or maybe he just wanted away from Minneapolis. :-)

So you as a puppy could probably sneak on a plane and get there. :-) And if you acted cute enough, they might not even object to your presence when they found you. :-)
mjkj 10th Jan 2014, 2:56 AM edit delete reply

So, true, Sheela...

Why is it that they all have to be on the other side of that big pond ... *sighs*

Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 11:47 AM edit delete reply

Well im hoping to meet a few of my AZ readers maybe ... its a small con so we will see :D
Stormwind13 8th Jan 2014, 8:05 PM edit delete reply

Good luck with it, CentComm. Hope it goes well for you. :-)
Mayyday 7th Jan 2014, 11:25 PM edit delete reply

OH GOD, RIGHT IN THE FEELS
Centcomm 7th Jan 2014, 11:31 PM edit delete reply

I know .. right? puts hand on chest .. right there .. :(
Sheela 8th Jan 2014, 1:01 AM edit delete reply

No wait, those are the boobs, Cent!

Which reminds me that little Lynn do have them, so .. 10 year's old or more ?
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 1:43 AM edit delete reply

Point Sheela..

Shes actually 12 .. ( if i did my math right. ) However based on research girls can start developing around that age.. I did try to minimise it but the dress was made for a older charcter and didnt quite size perfectly :D
Stormwind13 8th Jan 2014, 4:03 AM edit delete reply

Actually girls can develop before that, CentCom. It was uncommon; however, it seems to be happening more in recent days.
Sheela 8th Jan 2014, 7:18 AM edit delete reply

There are a hormone imbalance that can make girls develop at any age, which is pretty freaky.

Most *normal* girls, start to develop tenderly around 9-10 years of age and up to around 13, most will be fairly well developed around that time though, as nature intends them to have their first child around 15-16 years of age.

Most parents balk at that thought, which is hilarious as I knew several friends with girls in that age range - They're fun to tease. :D
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 11:48 AM edit delete reply

from what I was able to tell 12 isnt a bad period to have development begin same with her facial shape and other factors. ( there is a surprising amount of medical data on how we age )
antrik 10th Oct 2016, 1:50 AM edit delete reply
I think you hit the look pretty well: I was thinking "she must be around 12", before I went back to check the date...

The dialogue on the other hand doesn't really fit: the way she is asking these questions here, makes her appear several years younger mentally. (Which is why I went back to check the date...)
Fairportfan 8th Jan 2014, 2:56 PM edit delete reply

A friend's daughter was into a 38C bra before she was eleven.
Sheela 8th Jan 2014, 5:32 PM edit delete reply

Well, 38C is somewhat unusual, but far from unprecedented.
After all, if she started growing breasts around 9 or so, she'd have 2 years to grow those, which is a lot of time during that growth period - A lot happens during puperty.

Aeneas whispers : "Your life is short ... and then you die!"
Aeneas whispers : "But I was here ... all the time!"

You really have the hair down pat. Very impressive.
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 1:43 AM edit delete reply

thank you very much! that came out really well :D
mjkj 8th Jan 2014, 4:16 AM edit delete reply

Awwwwwww....

Little Lynn is so cute and adorable <3 *hugs her* especially in that last panel ... and she has such beautiful eyes...

Wow, Dolly really knows what to say...

...especially to difficult questions like these.

*lol* those answers from Dolly are great :D >>I will endeavor to follow that command<< *lol*

(great page, Cent, and great dialogue, Rose...)
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 11:49 AM edit delete reply

yes.. Rose outdid herself on this - she managed to capture Lynns nature and the whole "kids ask questions" stage wonderfully...
mjkj 8th Jan 2014, 4:30 PM edit delete reply

Indeed that she did :)
Stormwind13 9th Jan 2014, 6:08 PM edit delete reply

Let me add my voice to the praise. Great job on the child dialogue, Rose. It really felt... real. Unfortunately I do have something to gauge it against. Remembering a little bit from when my uncle died and left his 5 boys devastated (7 to 15). :-7

A bittersweet moment, showing not only Lynn coming to terms with death but bonding with Dolly. Her questions seem (from an adult perspective) to leapfrog all over the place, but it's clear they have a logic to *her*.

Dolly's responses are great; not sugarcoating anything (well, not much), but being supportive and unpatronizing. Even if she seems a little uncomfortable, her devotion and honesty are clear, to us and Lynn.
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 11:52 AM edit delete reply

oh yeah - as Most New Troy citizens in her situation ( her family being very technicly minded and brilliant ) shes got a great chance to excell...

as for Dolly shes always been a practical person and she cares for the Taylor family VERY much and loves the girls shes raised as much as if she really was there mother. ( although she wished Cali would take more of a hand in Lynns childhood.. but done is done. )
Fairportfan 8th Jan 2014, 2:55 PM edit delete reply

Unfortunately, when you tell people things like that, sweetie, they don't always follow through on them

Years ago, i announced that no more of my friends were allowed to die before i do.

Back about last July, a dear friend defied my wishes.

Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 6:11 PM edit delete reply

damn .. Im sorry *hugs* and yeah ive been there too..
Draginbeard 8th Jan 2014, 3:10 PM edit delete reply

Little Lynn has a Shirley Temple innocence about her, very well done!
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 6:12 PM edit delete reply

Thank you Innocence is one thing I was shooting for..
KarToon12 8th Jan 2014, 6:13 PM edit delete reply

Even at a young age, Lynn is very wise. :)

And you're going to have a table at a Con? Congrats! :D
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 6:17 PM edit delete reply

Kids often have a way of pointing out things adults miss or asking just the right questions.

Thank you , :D and yep got a table at the con and got a poster sized pic of Dolly and Ceci with all the logos and stuffs - looks pretty snazzy :D
JacobJSebastian 8th Jan 2014, 6:44 PM edit delete reply

Pics or it didn't happen! at least, pics of the con!
Dragonrider 8th Jan 2014, 9:12 PM edit delete reply

Wish I could make the Con but it's a bit far for a week-end trip.
Centcomm 8th Jan 2014, 9:34 PM edit delete reply

well wishing is always good :D and yeah totally understandable :D
VanEzzania 9th Jan 2014, 7:03 AM edit delete reply

This scene is actually kinda sad :( I hope this isn't a foreshadow of someone's death.
Rashala 9th Jan 2014, 3:15 PM edit delete reply

well remember whats happening outside her apartment....

*also High 5's Stormwind* WE both made CEnty facepalm desk!
Stormwind13 9th Jan 2014, 3:32 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, but I think this is going a little different way from that. I think it is setting up WHY Calliope is going to react the way she does. And how much she TRUSTS Dolly, and kind of why (though we don't see the fight vs. the gutters).

And high 5's back. Yes, yes we did. :-D
Centcomm 9th Jan 2014, 4:00 PM edit delete reply

I dunno that segment MIGHT make it into a flashback at some point.. but yes Storm you nailed the reasons for the flashbacks..
cattservant 9th Jan 2014, 7:53 PM edit delete reply

29 & 30!
(and 46)
Caley Tibbittz Collopy 22nd Jan 2014, 11:22 PM edit delete reply

Wow. Lynn's last line kills me. That's just perfection. This is the sweetest scene, but still feels starkly real.
Centcomm 22nd Mar 2016, 11:27 PM edit delete reply

Thank you - IM really happy with it. !
sigpig 18th Jul 2015, 11:26 AM edit delete reply

Centy - would you forgive me for the following 2 points?
1. The fact that I'm about a year-and-a-half late in commenting due to the fact that I started my CD binge this week; and
2. Having FAR too much blood in my coffee system and reading your "In the words of the person facilitating my going to the con..." as "going to the CAN..." and then having said coffee spew onto my monitor... lol
Phil_ 22nd Mar 2016, 11:08 PM edit delete reply
waaait.. isnt this the wrong dolly model? she looks fully human. or at least her hair/head does?
Centcomm 22nd Mar 2016, 11:27 PM edit delete reply

Nope Notice her hands. And her neck where it shows. :D
