So what song plays for you in your head when a character shows up? We had a discussion on music before (several of them), but does a particular song come on for you when the character shows up?

Currently, I’ve kind of got the following in my head (scary place that it is):
Acantha: “Love Is A Battlefield” by Pat Benatar
Ada: “Some Kind Of Friend” by Barry Manilow
Breaker: “Why Don’t We Get Drunk” by Jimmy Buffet
Cent-Comm: “Games Without Frontiers” by Peter Gabriel
Connie: “Love Story” by Taylor Swift
Deep Blue: “L’apprenti sorcier” by Paul Dukas
Dolly: “We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister
Dr. Silver: “Bitch” by Meredith Brooks
Kali: “Lucifer” by Alan Parsons Project
Kelly: “Mockingbird” by Carly Simon & James Taylor
Kyle: “Secret Agent Man” by Johnny Rivers
Mr. Black: “Smuggler’s Blues” by Glen Frey
Maxus: “Macho Man” by Village People

I’m still thinking about all the other characters in Data Chasers.
So, what do other people hear when characters appear?

(Edit: Went back and added all the links I should have done in the first place but I was too tired to think of it last night)

Oooh updated lists VERY NICE and very cool!!
Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 5:16 PM edit delete reply

Interesting take, Dragonrider. I absolutely LOVE your mission music ("Theme from the Dukes of Hazard"). :-D

Just the music to Clockwork Orange though seems kind of subtle for TeeDee. :-D

I heard this ("Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf) today and it made me think of TeeDee. [Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space] :-D

La Danse Macabre is a beautiful piece; however, personally I'm not getting Kali out of it.

On the other hand, I think I can endorse "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" for Lynn. Great choice there. :-)

I just ran into this (again) and it might be a good one for Mr. Black - "Highwaymen" by (some guys you MIGHT have heard of :-D) Jennings, Nelson, Cash & Kristofferson.
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 5:32 PM edit delete reply

Yeah the Highwaymen really really works for Mister black.. :D
Dragonrider 10th Feb 2014, 6:07 PM edit delete reply

La Danse Macabre For Kali because of what it is,a dance of deathThe clockwork orange because it is about total psycho, the only actual true definition for TeeDee at this point. The hywaymen are too polite for Black and so is the song I picked but the dress and manners when he first hit the scene made me thing of the song.

Actually The Green Hills Of Earth
Hasn't, to my knowledge been set to music but it still seemed appropriate. For those not familiar with it 5 of the verses from the full song

Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 6:15 PM edit delete reply

Well understand where you are coming from about the Dance of Death. I mean, she is death on two feet for sure, but the song doesn't say 'death' to me. At least not the version I heard. :-)

But that is the good thing like a list like this, there are not WRONG answers. Everyone has their favorites... and may learn something or find something to enjoy by sharing. :-)
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 6:36 PM edit delete reply

Exactly .. I actually am looking up the music and listening to all the choices :D

really really diverse ... I love it!
Stormwind13 11th Feb 2014, 5:56 PM edit delete reply

Alright I have thought about more songs for more people and I'll inflict those thoughts on you :-D

Aeneas: "Land of Confusion" by Genesis
Calliope: "Somewhere Out There" by Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram
Minx: "Holding Out For A Hero" by Bonnie Tyler
Ray: "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias
Tokyo Rose: "Red Hot by Vanessa Mae (this one makes more sense if you can see the official video, which is blocked in the US by EMI - Actually there is one out there right now, view it before it gets pulled again. :-D - Instead of fire shooting from the hands it is spewing from Rose's mouth turning people to ash :-D)
Centcomm 9th Feb 2014, 9:16 PM edit delete reply

heheh that is a REALLY cool list Storm...

now im really curious what other people aer thinking about music and who fits what..

but .. but.. macho man for Maxus???? really??

Not familiar with that one at ALL, Marcus. =o
Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 6:05 PM edit delete reply

Hey listen to the words (and just the words) to Macho Man. I know that people have made use of the solng for other things, but the lyrics makes me think of Maxus. I mean, he damn near makes two of me, and I'm not tiny or anything. :-O
Dragonrider 10th Feb 2014, 6:21 PM edit delete reply

Here's the Conquest March
Personally I can hear this playing when he went after Douchebag with the Rattan Pugil Stick.
velvetsanity 9th Feb 2014, 11:14 PM edit delete reply

Only one that's completely 100% definite for me is Mira with the theme from Firefly :D

Though I do have to say, I like Stormwind's choices for Dolly and Dr. Silver
Sheela 10th Feb 2014, 3:36 PM edit delete reply

This is what Aeneas is doing when noone is watching him ... complete with tweed suit, white shirt, red tie and the blue chrome bumber mask! :D
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 4:02 PM edit delete reply

Totally .. ( is laughing so hard right now.. )
Dragonrider 10th Feb 2014, 4:31 PM edit delete reply

Sheela that is more that a little disturbing. Did you remember to take all your nice meds today?
Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 5:46 PM edit delete reply

LOL Dragonrider. I was trying to think of a 'nice' way of saying something like that. :-D

Yes, Sheela... It is okay the guys in white coats just want to take you where you can... relax. :-D
Sheela 10th Feb 2014, 11:56 PM edit delete reply

It is now canon, Aeneas dances like Mr Bean ! :D

And I totally ate all my medicine, though the little bottles were kinda chewy and bleh. :(

The guys in white coats ?
No problem, I ate their medicin too! :D

So, so, soooo many pretty colors now! @.o

Woof!
Tokyo Rose 11th Feb 2014, 12:16 AM edit delete reply

Sure, we can add that to the many other bizarre things Aeneas no doubt does when absolutely nobody's watching! :D
Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 6:12 PM edit delete reply

I can see that, velvet. Not sure if it will stay lodged in my head or not for Mira, but it is a good song for her.
Sheela 11th Feb 2014, 12:32 AM edit delete reply

Minx is totally headed for the love shack with Officer Ray in tow. :D

As for CentComm, she's in a position where come hell or high waters, she has to navigate an alligator and rattlesnake infested cesspool of politics, Prime Directives, her own feelings and her duties - Luckily, she can deal with more than one person at a time and she has a large posse build up around her which have all the skills in the world you could think of. Even so, without a doubt, she's walking the tightrope, complete with delicate balance and vanishing acts!

Meanwhile Mr. Black is rocking along to the lyrics of Aint no rest for the wicked.
Stormwind13 11th Feb 2014, 4:09 AM edit delete reply

Love Shack won't play in the US, Sheela. :-7
Sheela 11th Feb 2014, 4:22 AM edit delete reply

Whaaaat ?
B-but .. The B-52's is an american band ?
I will never understand youtube copyright!

How about this one ?
Does that work over there ?

Edit :

On a sidenote, I'm in a bit of an odd funky mood today, and have ended up listening to stuff like Maggot Brain by Funkadelic ... it kinda starts real slow, and the guitar doesn't wake up until about 45 seconds in (I modified the link to start 43 seconds in, so you get to skip the boring part), then it goes from bein nice, to being awesome over the next minute or so, after which it goes into an EPIC OVERDRIVE around 3½ minutes in, and continues to do so until about 4½ minutes in ... at which point, the guitarist unfortunately looses the melody and ends up devolving into a mastubatory guitar solo, that isn't half as awesome as that one minute of epic overdrive.

Which made me think, what do other people listen to when they are in an ... odd mood ?

Edit 2 :

If you're going to listen to Maggot Brain, make sure to put it on your best soundsystem and crank it up !

If the neighbours complain, tell them that the Doggy that Smokes Salmon told you to do so.
If they seem confused tell them that the Smoked Salmon *might* be a metaphor.
If they don't complain loudly after that, you can now safely dismiss them and go back to listening to the guitar wailing. :)
Stormwind13 11th Feb 2014, 5:22 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, that version of Love Shack plays fine, Sheela. And you aren't alone in not understanding how they decide what can and can't be shown. :-p
Stormwind13 9th Feb 2014, 9:09 PM edit delete reply

Interesting page, CentComm. Cella certainly doesn't exactly see eye to eye with CentComm on everything. :-)

You don't want "yes men" as your underlings. You want people who aren't afraid to give their opinion, but nevertheless obey and won't try to sabotage (overtly or covertly) your orders even when you override their opinions.
Centcomm 9th Feb 2014, 10:41 PM edit delete reply

but shes not going to let Cella insult her or insinuate that cent is not able to make correct decisions ..
Guest 10th Feb 2014, 8:31 AM edit delete reply
Indeed. Nevertheless... I'm not certain about AI-Android relations, but that last panel would leave me somewhat worried in Cella's position. Politeness aside, things boil down to one question: "Do I have wide enough latitude to properly perform my duties?" If the answer to this question is negative, the proper response is to offer your immediate resignation... At least from my admittedly western point of view.
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 4:03 PM edit delete reply

no you have hit the nail.. Cella goes too far and shes in major kaka .. and not far enough she fails the mission .. :D
Stormwind13 11th Feb 2014, 6:05 PM edit delete reply

Centcomm 9th Feb 2014, 11:24 PM edit delete reply

hehe Cella has already been sparked - so thats normal .. :D

Its Black Angels that normally meant to "spark"
Rashala 10th Feb 2014, 12:28 AM edit delete reply

Annnnnd Centcomm shows that the B#$ch Slap is still a common practice in the future......And Black angels are Meant to spark? or NOT meant to

THE POWER OF the B*$CH slap is with Centy
Tokyo Rose 10th Feb 2014, 12:39 AM edit delete reply

Both Black and White Angels have already "sparked" before they ever leave the factory, so to speak. What they're not supposed to do is start developing completely separate and independent personae, since they're pre-loaded with very specific personalities from the get-go.
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 4:05 PM edit delete reply

Quick Clarification ..

Ceci was not suppose to "question" her exsistance or her actions.. and that is the "spark" they are refering to ..

However rose is correct all andriods are "sparked" under controlled cercimstances..

Ceci was ramrodded though four years of development in a matter of seconds .. >_<

Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 4:06 PM edit delete reply

As Cent is still working to actually "understand" humans she gets a bit overprotective of the ones she does care about..
Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 5:54 PM edit delete reply

The best or the worst, VanEzzania. I mean, she is still not human, so she will make some decisions that most humans wouldn't. :-) Now, CentComm could be a VERY comforting presence when you have a problem. :-D
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 6:33 PM edit delete reply

shes very logical .. and her emotions are very hard to understand .. dont play poker with her .. you will lose.. badly. :D
Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 6:42 PM edit delete reply

How about a good game of Fizzbin, CentComm? :-D
Sheela 11th Feb 2014, 12:07 AM edit delete reply

Whenever Centcomm, Tokyo Rose, Ariel and Deep Blue have a poker night, they have to use a small shack out in the middle of the wastes (ironically named "the love shack"), to avoid damaging their own cities.

That little shack has a higher concentration of military grade espionage equipment than any other place in the world, and enough firepower to back it up to level a large city in a matter of seconds.

The standoffs during the game tends to get .. tense! XD
Tokyo Rose 11th Feb 2014, 12:19 AM edit delete reply

Given the trend of "fake-insect spy drones", they'd really need a bug zapper out there . . .
Sheela 11th Feb 2014, 4:37 AM edit delete reply

Actually, they have several semi-sentient bugzappers, known as tiny hunter drones. XD
Those are mostly countered with advanced stealth technology and misdirection (y'know, sacrifice a few to let others get by).

Meanwhile, the best trick so far, was when Ariel managed to introduce some nanopaint that would make the others card look like other cards, so when they thought they had a full house in spades, one of the cards might have been hearts, thus making the hand invalid.

This was considered such a good cheat that even Deep Blue praised it, which was considered *so* unusual that the small shack spontaneously caught fire and burned down to the ground.

Don't worry though, they've rebuildt it several times since then. :D
Dragonrider 10th Feb 2014, 11:23 AM edit delete reply

Celia reminds me of a teenager who has the hammer dropped on them for behavior not acceptable to the parent. They are gonna do it their way come hell or high water. So at this juncture I estimate Lynn Taylors chances of survival and rescue by the Merry Misfit Mercenaries just dropped to somewhat less than 40%.
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 4:05 PM edit delete reply

LOL
KarToon12 10th Feb 2014, 12:22 PM edit delete reply

So apparently, Angels have a habit of going rogue.
Dragonrider 10th Feb 2014, 12:50 PM edit delete reply

Well Kartoon12 so far we've seen two and both went off track in one way or another, While Ceci became totally sentient Celia has just become rebellious like a spoiled teenager who has suddenly been told from now on you are no longer privileged you must earn the privileges from here on out. She'll work harder getting around restrictions than she would work just following directions.
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 4:07 PM edit delete reply

Cella is still following her assigned path.. Cent is not trying to stop her from doing her job .. just to stop making insults and cracks that cent is letting the Taylors get in her way of thinking clearly..
Tokyo Rose 11th Feb 2014, 12:23 AM edit delete reply

Yup. Cella's assigned personality is to be the one who can support the case for the hardest decisions. As noted previously, you don't want yes-men as your advisers . . . but even a designated advocatus diaboli doesn't get the latitude to insult and offend their superior with no repercussions. Cella did have a good point to make, but she pushed it too far.
Vivocateur 10th Feb 2014, 1:14 PM edit delete reply

I'm curious on Cent Comm's red circle for her belt buckle? I don't see her wanting decorations or bling. All her dolls have it I would think but just what is it? Important or just there?

Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 5:52 PM edit delete reply

Does anyone else think that Cella might be resenting her situation? I'm wondering if she wanted to go along on the mission. White Angels are capable of travel, I think so going wasn't impossible.

Cella sure seems to be resenting something at least and that is the only thing I can think of right now. Anyone else think of anything that might have pushed her button?
Dragonrider 10th Feb 2014, 6:29 PM edit delete reply

I get the feeling that as far as Celia is concerned she sides very much with Veronica Silver, Calli is highly over rated her daughter is a spoiled brat and the Guardian should have been junked years ago. Other than that she likes the family but doesn't think New Troy should expend any more effort to get Lynn back than they would for one of the lower class human workers.

So possibly I have named the wrong character Evil-1 however Cent still did give the order that Lynn was expendable.
Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 6:45 PM edit delete reply

WAS a spoiled brat, Dragonrider. When Lynn went to aid Acantha against Douchebag she lost that moniker for me. Of course Cella doesn't KNOW about that incident yet so her opinion is a bit dated. :-)
Dragonrider 10th Feb 2014, 6:56 PM edit delete reply

I agree, she has lost a lot of bratty habits and has quickly grown into a new role of big sister. I was just voicing Celia's opinion. I think everyone except possibly Dolly is going to be surprised at the new and improved Lynn and Kyle may find himself wondering if he really wants to spend long term relationship with the new Lynn. Of course he's growing up also courtesy of Tokyo Rose, who may intend to nab him for her ground side maintenance crew, this may be a form of job interview for him.
Stormwind13 10th Feb 2014, 7:15 PM edit delete reply

I think Kyle is going to be MORE attracted to her. I think Lynn has gotten closer to where he was hoping she would from when he was talking with her as she was leaving. Apparently Kyle saw the potential in her and was willing to take the chance she could break out of her spoiled brat persona. :-)

As for Tokyo Rose, she already has her hooks DEEP into Kyle. If he survives (which she isn't sure is going to happen) then he will have passed the job interview and will have a job. Probably NOT the one he planned on, but a job nonetheless. :-D
Centcomm 10th Feb 2014, 10:35 PM edit delete reply

Lynn is doing a lot of growing up fast.. but shes always been at the core a good person.. shes just seeing things that are more important than her now..
Tokyo Rose 11th Feb 2014, 12:31 AM edit delete reply

Cella is not resentful of her situation. She just chose the wrong wording and pushed too hard when making her point.

White Angels are capable of travel, yes, but they are NOT intended for combat situations--that's what Black Angels are for. Cella's role, for which she was specifically programmed and is totally content in, is intelligence evaluation and analysis. She's not an intelligence-gathering agent, nor a combatant. She would be a total liability in the field, and would have opposed any attempts to send her out because she knows where her strengths lie. So no, she's not sulking because Mommy made her stay home instead of going out to play. ;)
cattservant 11th Feb 2014, 5:03 AM edit delete reply

I'm pretty sure Cella is not entirely sold on the idea of 'human superiority'.
Hornet 11th Feb 2014, 7:06 AM edit delete reply
Cent-com's having internal battles externally???
mjkj 11th Feb 2014, 1:44 PM edit delete reply

*lol* nicely put :D
Centcomm 11th Feb 2014, 2:08 PM edit delete reply

Not really sure whats meant by that.. Cella is a independent person. Cent may have created her but she has her own thoughts and ideals .. and her own mind.
xpacetrue 6th May 2014, 1:38 AM edit delete reply

On page 1086 Calli told Cent:
"Fallon is gone, but the rest of my family is still here, and I have a responsibility to them. That includes you."

I have to wonder if Cent treasured those words, "that includes you", very deeply and on a very personal level.

And then, on pages up to 1089 we see Calli and Cent hug and share some tender moments and words. Clearly, Calli cares deeply for Cent and visa versa.

Then, Cella's words in panel 2,
"Calliope Taylor speaks, and you comply. Whether it's out of pure directive or conscious care, that may be risky."

It seems obvious to me now that Cent's attitudes toward the Taylors - Calli in particular - is -not- entirely directive. Cent may be programmed to be responsive to the Taylors, but the feelings seem genuine and well-founded. Though, I can see how others - possibly even Cent herself - might question where that line is drawn.

Even androids can develop relationships and close friendships with each other, as we see in TeeDee and Ada or Minx and Ray. But, surely, Cent's responsibilities to NT and it's citizens makes it very difficult to engender relationships with others (humans, androids, or AIS). For whatever reason, though, the Taylors are an exception for her. Surely, the Taylors are the closest thing to family Cent has ever known.

Am I getting warm?
Centcomm 6th May 2014, 7:55 AM edit delete reply

Yup - you seem to have a fairly good grasp of things :D
Caley Tibbittz Collopy 21st Jul 2014, 12:13 PM edit delete reply

Hey, my mother can do that to me! And it's just as annoying!
Chris D 3rd Oct 2015, 11:14 AM edit delete reply
So her bond to the Taylor family is... voluntary yet absolute? Good way to anchor one's self to maintaining humanity.
