I guess you DO like Steam Powered Giraffe! :)
Stormwind13 31st Mar 2014, 5:10 PM edit delete reply

Steamed Powered Giraffe, Jacob? A little too abstract for my taste. Different though, not going to be confused with any of the webcomics I read. :-D

Please don't impede you recovery by overdoing it!
Centcomm 31st Mar 2014, 10:59 AM edit delete reply

Eat some Smoked Salmon !

Works for me. :)
mjkj 31st Mar 2014, 12:19 AM edit delete reply

Oh, so her skin is like T3...

...and yeah, Lyn is from New Troy - first priority is the technology... :p

Lexy sure knows her stuff - she immediately recognized Lynn's problem.

Yeah, CentComm, take care of yourself. *hugs*

Edit: PS: those flowers in panel three almost look like a hoard of gold :D

Centcomm 31st Mar 2014, 10:59 AM edit delete reply

kinda sorta.. The T3 uses a "intelligent Polymer" This is more like nano scale chainmail.. :D

And im going to try to take care of myself .. thats for sure.

Re the flowers . they do look ok right?
mjkj 31st Mar 2014, 2:10 PM edit delete reply

Good to hear *hugs*

...as for the flowers: yes, you can see them as flowers and they look kind of pretty - but through the shrinking and them being out of focus a bit (being in the background) they suffered their beauty - and the color of the tiles hides them. Like I said at first I thought that was a pile of golden pieces in panel three - which would have made no sense - then after looking more careful I recognised that should be flowers...

(...but thank you for your work including those many flowers...)

Stormwind13 31st Mar 2014, 5:14 PM edit delete reply

I think they look fine. Now that mjkj pointed them out. I saw them, without paying them a lot of attention (none at 4:30 in the morning :-D). I was focusing on the people. Now that the day is done, I can more leisurely look into the background.

Not sure how mjkj got 'gold' out of them. I could see silver coins, if I turn my head a little and squint... They aren't the right color for gold (over here at least). :-D
Stormwind13 31st Mar 2014, 3:05 AM edit delete reply

So does that make Lexine more like Amy then? Just more advanced and skinned in new materials.

And yeah, Lynn has a techno need to determine what she is seeing. :-)
Centcomm 31st Mar 2014, 11:01 AM edit delete reply

yes shes like Amy :D Luna does not create Synth brain anodriods .. :D

And yes Lynn is trying to figure Lexie out :D
Sheela 31st Mar 2014, 1:20 PM edit delete reply

You could say Lexy's the opposite of Dolly, before Dolly got her body upgrade.

Her body is very hightech, but her brains isn't as advanced.
Meanwhile, Dolly's brain had the most advanced upgrades available, but her body was old fashioned.
Lexy is still quite intelligent, but Dolly was just *more* intelligent, and flexible too and capable of real amotions.
Dunno if Lexy xan do real emotion, though she can probably fake it pretty good.

It's an interesting dichotomy.
cattservant 31st Mar 2014, 2:55 PM edit delete reply

Because they can't , or they don't want too? It has been 900 some years.
Tokyo Rose 31st Mar 2014, 3:03 PM edit delete reply

Clarification: Luna does not create synth-brain androids for use as "equipment". They're perfectly capable of making them, but they're REALLY careful about drawing clear distinctions between "people" and "hardware".
Sheela 31st Mar 2014, 3:21 PM edit delete reply

Lexy is hardware then ?
Stormwind13 31st Mar 2014, 5:30 PM edit delete reply

Well as she is made of liquid metal I would say that would be pretty hard, Sheela. Lexine -wares it well though, wouldn't you agree, Sheela? :-D
Tokyo Rose 31st Mar 2014, 5:53 PM edit delete reply

As Irene noted, she's technically "medical equipment".
cattservant 31st Mar 2014, 7:12 PM edit delete reply

A delicate point of etiquette, no doubt.
MirrorField 31st Mar 2014, 11:08 PM edit delete reply
Request for further clarification: Does this mean that Lexy is non-sapient or are Lunarians simply carbon chauvinists?
Sheela 1st Apr 2014, 3:24 PM edit delete reply

I think she would be sapient, after all, Amy managed to spark, it's just that the synth brains are better, and if I understand it correctly, synth-brains are much better at emotions, than positron brains.

Not quite sure how that defines androids with synth-brains as more "people" than "hardware " than the positronic variants, though.
Tokyo Rose 1st Apr 2014, 4:11 PM edit delete reply

She's sapient. Luna's legal code has a lot, A LOT, of precedent and documentation defining "person" versus "hardware".

If New Troy has a labor shortage, they whip up a batch of androids, let them choose their own careers, and hope they get enough who want to be ditch-diggers or whatever. If Luna needs to fill certain jobs, they tend to purpose-build androids for those jobs, and they're careful to make sure that they keep within the boundaries of the law so they're not "creating slaves". Their "hardware" builds tend to include specialized components and data to make the android better-suited for its task.

That said, on a social level, Luna tends to treat even "hardware" like people. The distinctions are primarily a legal structure.
Sheela 1st Apr 2014, 7:04 PM edit delete reply

So, their bodies are treated as machines, specialized hardware for the job, but they still have enough respect for the person living inside the body to treat the personality of the android as a person, and not just hardware.

Neato.
And it does make some sense, kind of an extended view of how we look at Avi the Auto-Doc, but with humanish looks as well.

Always nice to see a shout out to the masters of SciFi. Asimov for the win.

I like how, even though she's technically wearing no clothes, her body type/design LOOKS like clothes. :)
Stormwind13 31st Mar 2014, 5:16 PM edit delete reply

Any bets on Lexine whipping out Grandma's Chicken Noodle soup recipe? :-D

"...appropriate measures for supportive care." I could so see chicken noodle soup fitting that bill. Even now with all the medicines we have, that still does as good or better than most of them. :-D
Dragonrider 31st Mar 2014, 8:25 PM edit delete reply

Actually it has been found that there is something in Chicken Noodle soup that is good for fighting colds.
velvetsanity 2nd Apr 2014, 5:21 PM edit delete reply

I'm really liking how even Lexy's speech bubbles are shiny. Nice touch, Rose :)

I think I prefer the synth brain design. I was never a fan of the positronic brain, seeing as how that's a lot of anti-matter and the energy released by the positrons annihilating equal amounts of matter would be roughly equivalent to a nuke.
Granted, that is one way to get folks to respect artificial intelligence...
